Chapter 41 – The Waiting Game
Nivi stepped out of the conference room — she no longer needed to be there, thanks to Rohan's smooth handling of the client. The meeting had wrapped early, signatures inked faster than expected.
She had a million imaginings about her day out with Prem — lazy walks, shared meals, rediscovering the lightness they once had.
She wanted to surprise him by leaving early with him at noon.
But Rohan's plan had given her even earlier access — a gift she hadn't anticipated.
She got a message from Rohan just before stepping out: Check your mail after 2 PM. I have scheduled a surprise mail to arrive at 2 PM.
She left with a smile — curious, warm.
Scanned the lobby — bright, modern, leather sofas and coffee machines humming softly.
No Prem.
She thought he might be in the restroom or on a call.
Sat on a sofa — checked phone, scrolled idly.
Waited 15 minutes.
Called his phone — ringing, no answer.
Texted: Where are you? Meeting done early.
No reply.
She waited longer — 30 minutes now.
Called again.
Prem answered — background noise, muffled voices, excitement in his tone.
"Hey... I met a business friend. Will be back by evening. Finish your meeting, I'll pick you."
Before she could speak — cut the call.
Nivi: "Meeting done. Where are you?"
Call cut — beep.
She wanted to surprise him — early access morning gift from Rohan.
Now — plan flipped.
She felt awkward to go back… felt if she went back in — feel like a joker, waiting alone.
Decided to wait in lobby until Rohan's meeting ends.
Rohan knew — it was deliberate move from him.
He made her wait — watching via CCTV in the manager room, screen split, her figure small on sofa.
Fidgeting — legs crossed then uncrossed, fingers drumming armrest.
Checking phone — screen lighting face repeatedly.
Sighing — soft exhales, shoulders slumping.

He did nothing for 2 hours.

Let her feel his absence. Value his companionship.
She left him for husband — chose Prem's company.

She felt little good — at least plan.

They ate — conversation light, but her mind elsewhere.
She missed to see the mail.. Rohan didn't push her back.
They went back to room.
She got back her mojo… leave out early disappointments.
Changed into better clothes for outing — simple dress, hair loose, makeup touch.
Ready.
Called Prem — unreachable.
Rohan seeing her go out: "I'll accompany until he comes."
Sharply 4 PM — stand at spot.
10 mins gone.
20 mins.
No calls, messages.
1 hour.
2 hours now — sun dipping, crowd thinning.
She felt defeated — by own men.
Miserable.
Tears came out — hot, silent.
What's more important than taking his woman out? He promised... leaving me like this?
Rohan played the right game.
Consoled — arm around shoulder.
"Maybe mobile issue. Let's back room. He pick from there."
"It's 6:10 PM... where we go now?" Anger mixed cry tone.

Nivi felt miserable. She felt like she lost her own purpose.
Sat same pool side penthouse — place where first kiss took place.
He was calm — looking at sky, first stars pricking deepening blue, arm resting lightly on shoulder, thumb tracing slow, soothing circles on upper arm.
Consoled side by side, letting her vent — words tumbling raw, anger hurt mixing voice.
She: "For past few weeks I was in deep dilemma... burden cheating him."
"But once he got my love — car, effort — he knows I won’t go away, so leaving me alone, miserable, unwanted..."
"Thought Bangalore moment cherish, enjoy... but other important stuff."
"Takes granted..."
"I don’t know why I’m here..."
Voice cracking, tears spilling — hot, frustrated.
He consoled — "It's okay."
Voice steady, low.
Deep breath — chest rising against side.
"Can i tell something?"
She looked eyes — red-rimmed tears, his steady, dark, pulling.
He took his mobile out — opened email draft, scheduled.
Showed screen.
"This email sent noon — remember, surprise?"
Two movie tickets — evening show.
"I wanted give this... thought you two go."
Then showed another photo — older screenshot.
Two tickets — similar, year back.
"For my wife... long time back. I got them to impress her, spend time when she made me feel she was with me. But she had other priorities."
"Wanted to show this to you and say — see how neglected I am... but how you’re lucky with Prem."
"But fate... Prem ignores again. And we’re at the same place again..."
She looked — tears slowing, absorbing.
"But that's not what i wanted to say..."
"Don't shed tears for people who don't value us, and take us for granted..."
She stopped crying — deep thoughts, breath hitching.
He: "Same place once we felt ignored by our partners... we sat here for comfort.. kissed... which led for more."
"Irony — same place, similar situation."
"Even after that day i never wanted to be in physical relation even though i had urge — i never pushed far...i just wanted to be happy with you.. and make you happy by letting you get loved by your partner.. but he behaved same way like my wife did to me years back"
"But today I firmly tell you — consider your home as place where you can be taken for granted, cry there, struggle with Prem — I don't care. Because that's the one you chose."
But Bangalore —you should shed tears only for overjoy, happiness. It's a place for us..
This is a place we find comfort in each other.. The comfort we both loved, we are not going to leave our respective partners.. But we wanted to be valued.. I value you and you are doing it for me.. That's what matters.. If not for life time at least when shall do it as long as we are together in bangalore
