Chapter 30 – Prem’s Change
Prem’s change wasn’t sudden.
He had been watching Nivi carefully for months.
Two Bangalore trip return — the way she and Rohan spoke only business, no lingering glances, no whispers, no suspicion.
Nothing to grasp.
He had overthought, as always.
Male pride had stopped him from admitting it earlier — that she was more than he had allowed her to be.
All those years, he had kept her naive.
Safe. Unappreciated.
The cage he built in the name of protection.
This week, something cracked. He decided to warm up. Be supportive.
He thought just saying “okay” instead of “no” would show change.
But she barely noticed it.. As everything was office matters.. She was just thankful as she got an instant yes reply or okay reply..
His ego still whispered — she’s just a woman…earning because of my company, my contacts.
But last night — the day before Rohan and Nivi left for Bangalore — Pratap met him.
They talked business first.

“I miss playing with Aara,” Pratap said, eyes distant. “Heard you moved to Rohan’s place.”
Prem nodded.

“If you want to show you’ve changed… you were her right choice — turn it into words.”

“Women need words and action. They don’t grab your actions like we do. Only when it’s against them — that they remember. Pin it on you forever.” He chuckled.
“Continue to shower love on the person you love. When you stop… they feel different. Some confront. Some don’t.”
He paused.
“The ones who confront — you know how they react. But the ones who don’t… you never know their saturation point. Before she’s pissed off forever… change it.”
Prem asked, voice low. “How?”
Pratap smiled.
“Fall in love again. Undo what you’ve done.”
The words landed.
That morning, the impact showed.
When Nivi said she was leaving for Bangalore.
Prem didn’t fight.
“Take care. Eat on time. Don’t walk alone — take Rohan’s help wherever you go.”
Soft. Supportive. To show the Prem she had wanted.
It got an instant outcome.. She kissed his cheeks..

Now, alone in the empty guest room — Aara asleep on her own — Prem stared at the ceiling.
11:30 PM.
She would be asleep in Bangalore.
He wanted to apologise. For years of control. For the call earlier — “Are you sleeping alone?”
Stupid.
Why spoil it? He cursed himself.
After nine years… he was behaving like a new lover.

He picked up the phone.
Thumb hovered. What to send? How to console?

The screen glowed in the dark.
