.
Amit continued, unaware of the storm unraveling inside her. His lips brushed gently against her cheek, and her skin tingled from the softness of it. It should have felt comforting.
It should have felt like home.
Instead…
“Amit’s kiss is soft. Warm. A sign of affection.”
“But Ravi’s kiss…”
“His lips were insistent.”
“Hungry.”
“When Ravi kissed me on the cheek, it wasn’t just a kiss.”
“It was an invitation.”
Her pulse raced. Her body ached with a confusion she had never known before.
She could feel it again, Ravi’s kiss on her cheek, the faint taste of him still lingering on her skin, as if he were standing right there.
“What is wrong with me?”
“Why do I feel this way?”
Her breath came shallow now, uneven. The very thought of Ravi made her body respond in ways she couldn’t explain.
Amit kissed her lips softly, pulling her closer. His hand slid to the back of her neck, the gesture tender, familiar, deeply intimate. But the moment his lips touched hers, the comparison returned, sharp and unavoidable.
“Amit’s kiss is warm.”
“Soft.”
“The kind of kiss that comes from years of shared life.”
“Of comfort.”
And then…
“But Ravi’s kiss…”
“It was urgent.”
“Filled with desire.”
“With something I can’t deny.”
Amit kissed her again, pressing a little more firmly now, but it was no use. The memories overwhelmed her senses, vivid and invasive.
She could almost feel Ravi’s lips again.
The way his kiss had deepened so quickly.
So naturally.
As if they were meant to fit together in a way she had never thought possible.
Priya’s hands curled against Amit’s chest, fingers gripping his shirt as though holding on might ground her.
“I shouldn’t be thinking about him.”
“Why am I thinking about Ravi now?”
“Why is this so hard?”
She tried to push the thoughts away, but the contrast was unbearable, Amit’s tenderness set against Ravi’s urgency.
“Why does it feel so easy with him?”
“Why does it feel like I belong there…”
“…and not here?”
The kiss ended.
The silence between them stretched, thick and heavy with everything left unsaid. Priya opened her eyes, guilt crashing over her in a sharp, suffocating wave.
Amit searched her face now, concern etched deeply into his brow.
“What’s wrong, Priya?”
She shook her head quickly, her heart pounding, afraid that if she spoke, everything would spill out.
“I can’t do this.”
“I can’t keep pretending.”
“I’m fine, Amit,” she whispered, the lie tasting bitter on her tongue. She reached for his hand, her fingers trembling.
“But it’s not the same. Nothing feels the same anymore.”
Amit smiled softly and pressed his forehead against hers, an intimate, trusting gesture.
Priya felt a million miles away.
Her body was here, with her husband, in their bedroom.
But her mind…
Her mind was with Ravi.
And no matter how tightly she closed her eyes, it would not let her go.
