## Update 167 A: Results Day and the Unexpected Arrival (Avi, Suman Chachi, Komal, and Riya)
The next morning, before the sun was fully up, Suman Chachi burst into my room, pulling me from a deep sleep.
"Avi, get up right now," Suman Chachi leaned over me, shaking my shoulder hard. "Today is the day your result is announced."
"Just let me sleep, Chachi," I mumbled into the pillow, pulling it closer. "The result won't be out until 11:00 AM."
Suman Chachi grabbed the edge of my blanket and tugged hard. "So what? Get up quickly and start praying to GOD to pass your exams! Come on, get up quickly."
"Just let me have ten more minutes," I pleaded, pulling the blanket back into place.
Suman Chachi stood over me, her hands planted firmly on her hips. "No ten minutes. Are you getting up on your own now, or should I throw water on your head?"
The word "water" made me jump. I bolted upright instantly, scrambling out of bed. I quickly got fresh. Then, I stood side-by-side with my elder aunt, sincerely praying to GOD for a good outcome.
I started walking toward the college to get my result. Before arriving, I took a detour to Neha Bua’s house and picked up Komal to take her to college with me.
"What will happen to me today? I'm so scared," Komal whispered, walking beside me and wringing her hands nervously.
"There's nothing to be scared of, Komal," I said, putting an arm around her shoulder. "I'm telling you, you're going to top the whole college."
Komal shook her head, her fear still clear in her eyes. "I'm only scared about the math paper."
"You're taking unnecessary tension," I scoffed softly. "You'll see, you'll end up getting more marks than I do."
"I don't think I'll get more marks than you, Avi," Komal insisted, glancing at me worriedly. "I just want to pass math, that's all."
"Don't worry about it," I told her, trying to calm her nerves. "Look at me. I'm worried about every single subject I took, but I'm not saying anything aloud."
"You're different, Avi," Komal dismissed my concern, waving a hand. "You'll pass easily, no matter what."
"And you won't just pass," I confirmed, pulling her along faster. "You'll top the college. Now let's go quickly before they start."
We arrived at the college grounds. All the students were gathered, waiting nervously for the results to be announced. A little while later, Principal Sir came out with the teachers, clutching the official result sheets.
"All the students' results are excellent this year," Principal Sir smiled broadly at the crowd. "After five years, the result has come out so well. Last year, twenty-five students failed, but this year, only ten students failed their exams." Principal Sir paused for dramatic effect. "The students who passed didn't just pass, they passed with very good marks. Congratulations to all the students here."
Hearing Principal Sir's positive announcement, Komal squeezed my hand even harder; I could feel the nervous tremor running through her arm.
"Now I'm going to announce the names of the students who have truly made our college proud," Principal Sir beamed. He cleared his throat. "This year, the student who topped our college is a girl!"
Komal squeezed my hand even harder; the tension was radiating off her small body.
"This year, the student who topped our college is Komal, who got an outstanding eighty-four percent!" Principal Sir announced, his voice booming.
Komal instantly jumped up, a shriek of joy escaping her, and she threw her arms around me, hugging me tightly. She was absolutely overjoyed, shaking with excitement in my arms.
Komal went on stage to get her result. Principal Sir publicly congratulated her as she took the sheet.
"I told you you would top the college, didn't I?" I said, smiling widely as she came back to me. "You see? You topped the entire college."
Komal shook her head, still overwhelmed. "This is all because of you, Avi."
"What did I do?" I laughed, shaking my head at her. "You earned it yourself."
"No," Komal insisted, her eyes shining with tears. "I only passed math because of all your help."
"How many marks did you actually get in math, then?" I asked, suddenly curious.
"One hundred five out of one hundred fifty," Komal beamed, holding the paper up.
"One hundred five?" I repeated, genuinely impressed by the number. "You got excellent marks, Komal!"
"Yes," she sighed happily, clutching the paper to her chest.
"See?" I teased her. "You were talking only about barely passing the subject. But look how good your marks actually are. Congratulations, Komal."
"Thanks, Avi," Komal said, clutching her result sheet.
Principal Sir continued announcing the names of the students one by one. My name still had not been called. Principal Sir had announced the names of all the top five students, but my name was not among them. As the numbers of students called increased, my heart was beating faster and faster in my chest.
I was getting lost in strange, panicked thoughts. *What if my name isn't called at all?* My stomach clenched. *What will I tell Chachi? I promised her I'd pass!* A knot tightened in my gut. *I have to have sex with Chachi tomorrow!* My palms were suddenly slick with cold sweat. *Chachi must have planned so much in her mind: 'Avi will get his result, then Avi will do this, Avi will do that.'* My heart hammered against my ribs, a loud, heavy thumping.
I was completely lost in my thoughts, staring blankly ahead, when Komal suddenly shook my arm, jolting me back to reality.
"What happened to you?" Komal asked, looking at me oddly. "Are you falling asleep right here? Look, Sir is calling your name now!"
"My name?" I stammered, shaking my head to clear it.
"You came in eighth place," Komal clarified, pointing toward the stage.
"Our next successful student is Avi, who came in eighth place with seventy-four point six-six percent," Principal Sir announced clearly. "And yes, Avi got more marks than all the students in the college in math. Avi got an impressive one hundred thirty-five out of one hundred fifty marks in math!"
I was relieved and happy to hear my name called. Eighth place was not too bad, but it was not excellent either.
I walked up to Sir to get my result. Sir handed me the sheet and whispered confidentially in my ear, "I honestly thought you only knew how to have sex, Avi. But I was wrong. Congratulations."
I took my result and went back to Komal. Komal grabbed my result sheet immediately and started looking over my marks.
"You got very good marks, Avi," Komal praised me, her eyes tracing the numbers.
"It's all because of you," I replied, smiling at her.
"Because of me?" Komal questioned, tilting her head with a confused look.
"Yes," I confirmed, "just like you passed math because of my help, I..." I trailed off, letting her assume I felt motivated by her.
Komal and I were both happy with our results and started talking excitedly about the marks. As we talked, Sir finished giving everyone their results.
"Hey, Riya!" Komal suddenly exclaimed, waving an arm behind me. "When did you come here?"
Riya walked over, a faint smile on her face. "I've been standing right here for a long time now. You two were just too busy to see me."
*Riya is here? When did she come back? Maybe she returned yesterday.* "What about you, Riya?" I asked immediately, turning to face her. "How many marks did you get?"
Riya shrugged, looking relaxed. "I passed. That's enough for me, Avi."
"Even so, how many marks did you end up getting?" Komal persisted, nudging her.
"I got fifty-five percent," Riya revealed, looking calm about it.
"Those are good marks for you," I commented honestly, nodding.
"Yes," Riya agreed. "For me, fifty-five percent feels just like ninety-eight percent."
Then, after talking for a while longer, the three of us happily started walking back toward our houses.
