## Update 148 A: The Accident Lie (Avi, Sweta Didi, and Sital)

Sweta Didi was still sitting by the window, lost in new hope. Sital was watching me intently, and I was deep in my thoughts, trying to figure out the fastest, most effective way to bring Rohan and Sweta Didi back together. After a few minutes of intense concentration, a sudden, bold idea snapped into my mind.

"Sweta Didi, can you please hand me your mobile phone?" I asked.

She turned from the window, a small crease of confusion on her brow. "Why do you need my mobile?" she asked.

"I have something important I need to do right now," I said simply.

"Here," she said, shrugging and handing the device over.

I quickly dialed Rohan's number. I waited a moment, then pressed the speaker button, placing the phone on the bed between us.

"Hello, Sweta, is that you?" Rohan answered instantly, his voice carrying the familiarity of a lover.

"Hello," I said, keeping my own voice low and slightly rough.

"Who is this? Where did you get Sweta's phone?" Rohan demanded, his tone sharp with confusion.

"I found this phone lying here on the road," I lied smoothly.

"On the road?" Rohan asked, his voice instantly tightening with worry.

"Yes, on the road," I repeated, forcing a sense of urgency into my voice. "A girl just had a serious accident right here. This is her mobile. I was looking through the contacts to call her family to tell them about the accident, and your number popped up, so I called you."

Sweta Didi gasped, about to shout something at the word "accident," but I swiftly shook my head and silenced her with a fierce look.

"Did Sweta have an accident? Is it Sweta?" Rohan asked, his voice now rising into full-blown panic. My heart hammered against my ribs; Rohan's fear was clear.

"So that girl's name is Sweta," I said, trying to maintain a calm, indifferent tone. "What are you to her?"

"She's my future wife!" Rohan replied instantly, the words escaping him with a fierce sense of pride and possessiveness.

Hearing the word "wife" so easily leave Rohan's mouth caused Sweta Didi's whole body to flush a bright red, and she clamped her hand over her mouth to suppress a sudden, shy squeal of happiness. A huge wave of relief washed over me, confirming his love was real.

"So you're her future husband," I acknowledged.

"Forget all these useless questions and just tell me where she is and how badly she's hurt!" Rohan shouted, his voice now urgent and desperate.

"I don't know anything about that," I said, maintaining the lie.

"But you know where the accident happened, right? You said you were there!" he pleaded.

"Yes, I know where that happened," I said.

"Please stop talking nonsense and tell me where the accident happened!" he yelled, his voice cracking with emotion.

"The accident happened in the village," I replied, and with that final, vague detail, I quickly cut the call. I immediately told Sital to grab the mobile. "Sital, switch that phone off, now!" Sital quickly switched off the mobile.

I knew I needed to cover my tracks. I told Sital to bring her own mobile. I had to call Poonam Didi because Rohan would certainly go to her house first after hearing about the accident. I knew Sweta's mobile was off, and Sital's mobile had no balance. I called Poonam Didi and asked her where she was. Poonam Didi told me she was on her way to a friend's wedding with her mother, meaning her house would be locked. This was perfect. I didn't need to tell Poonam Didi anything about Rohan's emergency.

"Avi, what in the world was all that about?" Sweta Didi asked, completely confused, her fear slowly turning to agitation, gesturing at the silent phone.

"Nothing," I said, giving her a mischievous glint from my eye. "I'm just directing a small, necessary play."

"A play? Why would you do that?" she asked, her hands gesturing wildly, looking bewildered.

"You desperately want to talk to Rohan, right? I'm arranging a private meeting with Rohan for you right now," I said, unable to hide my smirk.

"I don't understand a single thing you are doing," she said, her eyebrows furrowed deeply.

"I'll explain everything later," I said, dismissing her worry. "First, you need to answer a few more of my questions clearly."

"Ask," she conceded.

"Does Rohan have Sital Didi's or Poonam Didi's direct phone number?" I asked, needing to confirm the blockades.

"No, I don't think so," she replied.

"Does Rohan know where Poonam Didi's house is?" I asked.

"Why are you asking such idiotic questions, Avi? Of course he knows where I live!" she said impatiently, rolling her eyes.

"He knows you live in the village, right? He knows the village name?" I pressed.

"Yes, he knows about this village," she confirmed.

I leaned back, a wide smile spreading across my face. "You still don't understand what I'm doing, Didi," I said, looking from her tense face to Sital's amused one. "There is nothing complicated about this. After hearing about your horrible accident, he is probably calling your mobile right now, but the mobile is switched off. So now, his next step will be to go straight to Poonam Didi's house, hoping to find you there or get information. But Poonam Didi's house is locked. Then, he will panic and realize he has to come here to the village to find you. When Rohan comes to the village, you can meet him."

I picked up the phone from the bed. "And until Rohan comes here, this mobile will stay securely with me."

"What if this doesn't work out?" she asked, her voice filled with a sudden, horrible doubt. "What if Rohan doesn't come here to the village?"

"If Rohan doesn't come here, then you'll know for sure that Rohan has forgotten you and moved on," I said, my voice deliberately serious, testing her resolve.

"Don't even say that, Avi," she pleaded, her voice now trembling with renewed fear.

"I'm ninety percent sure that Rohan will come here right away," I reassured her.

"And what about the ten percent?" she asked, her eyes searching mine desperately.

"And ten percent that he won't come at all," I said, holding her gaze. "But don't worry about any of that. Leave everything to me. Your only job is just not to try and call Rohan."

"Okay," she said, visibly relieved that the responsibility was out of her hands.

"Now I'm going back to my house," I said, standing up. "We'll talk about the next steps later."
