## Update 129: The Shopping Spree and the Bike Ride (Avi, Sweta Didi, Sital Didi, and Poonam Didi)
We all came home from the park. Sweta Didi and Poonam Didi had also returned from college. We gathered for lunch. Uncle finished his meal and then went to sleep. After sitting for a while, Sweta Didi clapped her hands together.
"Let's go shopping now," Sweta Didi announced, looking at all of us.
"Yes, let's go! I've been waiting for this since morning," Sital Didi agreed, bouncing on the sofa excitedly.
"I'll freshen up in ten minutes and be right back," I said, getting up quickly, eager to start.
"What should we do about Raj?" Poonam Didi wondered out loud, looking at the small boy who was already drowsy from playing.
"He played too much in the park this morning. He can't roam around in the market for three hours, or he'll get tired quickly and start complaining," Sital Didi reasoned, shaking her head.
"Let's give him a video game to play on my phone," Sweta Didi suggested, pulling out her mobile.
"Yes, that will be perfect," Sital Didi agreed.
"But how will we all get to the mall?" I asked, looking at the number of people.
"Sweta and I will go on the scooty," Poonam Didi decided, grabbing her keys. "Sital and you take Papa's bike."
"You know how to ride a bike properly, right, Avi?" Sital Didi asked, raising an eyebrow at me, her expression skeptical.
"Yes, I've ridden a bike many times in the village fields and on the roads," I confirmed, standing tall.
"This is not a village road, Avi. This is a city, with traffic and cars everywhere," Sital Didi reminded me, her eyes darting nervously.
"Don't worry, Didi. I can handle it," I reassured her with a confident grin.
"Good. Because I want to go with you. I'm going to sit on your bike," Sital Didi said, a flicker of excitement in her eyes, smiling broadly.
"Didi, you trust me to keep you safe," I vowed, my voice earnest.
"Everyone get ready in fifteen minutes. Then we'll leave," Sweta Didi finalized the plan, looking at her watch.
I came back to the room. After a quick wash and changing into a clean set of village clothes, I took out the money from the bag. I had a total of 60,000 rupees from all three Chachis. Chacha had also given me 5,000 rupees for travel. I kept Chacha's money separate in the bag and took the large wad of cash given by Chachi downstairs.
"Okay, let's go now," Sital Didi announced, pulling me toward the door impatiently.
"The shopping will take at least three or four hours. It's good there won't be much crowd in the afternoon heat," Poonam Didi observed as we stepped outside into the strong sun.
"The bike keys?" I asked, looking at the two vehicles parked in the driveway.
"Wait, I'll bring them. Until then, you wait outside," Sweta Didi said, running back inside to the house.
Sweta Didi brought the keys. Poonam Didi mounted her scooty, starting the engine with a kick. I swung my leg over the heavy bike. Poonam Didi took the lead. Sital Didi climbed onto the bike behind me. It was the first time a girl was sitting on my bike like this. Sital Didi was sitting like a boy, straddling the seat. She quickly wrapped her arms around my waist, holding me tightly. Her soft breasts were pressing firmly against my back through my thin shirt. **My blood pressure spiked immediately, feeling the warm weight against me. A hot flush spread across my neck and face. My lunď hardened instantly, pressing against my pants.**
I could not allow myself to think anything wrong about Sital Didi, not after all her kindness and trust. A wave of guilt washed over the brief rush of excitement. I immediately clenched my jaw and focused all my attention on the heavy bike, the clutch, and the steering. I started concentrating fiercely on riding the bike properly through the city traffic, trying to ignore the warmth at my back.
After about twenty minutes of careful riding, following the tail-light of the scooty, we reached a massive, glass-fronted mall. I kept staring at the building—it was huge, glittering under the afternoon sun. It was my first time seeing such a place. We parked the vehicles and went inside the mall. There were not many people inside. How could there be? Who comes out of the house in the blistering month of May, and in the middle of the afternoon? But as many people as there were, they were almost all couples.
Sweta Didi and Poonam Didi walked together, chatting. Sital Didi and I followed close behind them. Sweta Didi led us into a large ladies' clothing shop. I looked around once. There were only girls' dresses and women's outfits here. I thought, *Where will I find my clothes here?*
"Avi, aren't you going to buy clothes for us first?" Sital Didi asked, noticing my confusion, her eyes twinkling.
Oh, that's why we came here first. Now I will have to buy gifts for all three of them. Also for Raj, and then a gift for Jyoti Bua too.
"Why not? If I don't buy for my sisters, who else will?" I said, smiling at them, feeling proud to offer.
"We don't need a lot of dresses, Avi. We'll only take one dress each," Sital Didi said, looking at Sweta Didi for confirmation.
"Yes, just one nice dress," Sweta Didi agreed, nodding.
"Take as many as you want. I'm here to spend the money, remember?" I insisted grandly, opening my wallet slightly.
"No. We'll stick to one dress each. We have to buy a lot of things for you too," Sital Didi gently refused, patting my arm.
"Okay. In that case, also take one dress each for Komal, Kavita, and Leena back in the village. And a nice shirt for Raj," I added, expanding the list.
"Okay, that's fair. We'll take for them too. By the way, I've calculated everything in my head," Sweta Didi said, tapping her forehead. "We have enough money for our dresses and for your complete new wardrobe."
"Do you want to buy anything for anyone else in the village?" Sital Didi asked, holding up a shimmering blue saree.
"Yes. Also take three beautiful sarees for the Chachis (Suman, Meena, and Seema)," I requested.
"Okay. Yes, we must. I'll pick those out myself," Sital Didi agreed, her eyes already scanning the racks. "Let's start shopping in earnest now!"
The ladies got seriously busy with their selections. In one fast hour, we had selected all the dresses. They showed me the dresses they had chosen for Komal, Kavita, and Leena. They seriously had a good eye for color and style. Then we came to a separate saree shop. Sweta Didi immediately started looking for sarees that would suit the three Chachis. I pulled Sital Didi closer to me while Sweta Didi was busy looking at fabrics.
"Didi, take one more saree," I whispered to her, my voice low.
"One more for who, Avi?" Sital Didi asked softly, leaning in, her hair brushing my cheek.
"For Jyoti Bua," I specified.
"Yes! Of course. We have to take one for her too, she's hosting us. Okay, I'll find a nice one for her," Sital Didi promised, her eyes lighting up.
The ladies' shopping was done. The total bill came to 22,000 rupees. Sweta Didi walked over to me as I paid the bill.
"I had already done the mental calculation," Sweta Didi said, counting the change quickly. "You have 38,000 rupees left. You'll get very good clothes for yourself in that amount. We were only planning to shop for about eight thousand, but you insisted on buying dresses for everyone," she scolded playfully, pocketing the change.
"It wouldn't look good if I bought for you and not for my other sisters," I explained simply, shrugging.
"You did a good thing by buying gifts for everyone, Avi. Now, let's go eat something first, then we'll shop for you and transform you," Sweta Didi suggested, tucking the bags under her arm.
"Okay," I agreed, my stomach rumbling slightly in response to the word 'eat'.
"What happened? What were you two discussing so quietly?" Sital Didi asked, walking up to us, her eyes curious.
"Nothing important. Didi was just saying that we should grab a quick bite first, then do the rest of the shopping," I lied smoothly, avoiding eye contact with Sweta Didi.
"I only want a cold drink," Poonam Didi declared, fanning herself.
"Me too," Sital Didi seconded, nodding agreement.
"Let's all drink a cold drink, then. Right, Avi?" Sweta Didi asked, looking at me with a decisive look.
What choice did I have? If all three of them wanted to drink a cold drink, I was going to drink one too.
