The rest of the evening blurred into a haze of small talk and forced smiles as I lingered near the lounge entrance, pretending to chat with colleagues while my mind fixated on what might be happening inside. Every minute felt like an eternity, my pulse thumping in my ears. Finally, after what seemed like hours but was probably only twenty minutes, Chitra emerged, her cheeks slightly flushed, a soft smile playing on her lips. "Everything alright?" I asked her as we made our way to the car, my voice barely above a whisper.

She nodded, squeezing my hand. "It was nice. He just wanted to talk about your work, Hari. He's impressed with you." Her words were innocent, but the way her saree dbangd a little looser now, as if adjusted in haste, made my stomach twist with unspoken questions.
