20. Niagara
The Niagara River roared before them, a torrent of milky white water thundering over the edge, sending up clouds of mist that caught the sunlight and fractured it into a fragile rainbow. The air itself seemed alive—cool, damp, vibrating with the endless song of the falls.

Bharat stood at the railing, fingers curled tight around the cold metal, eyes wide like a child’s. He had seen waterfalls once before, years ago on a college trip, but memory had not prepared him for this: the sheer, reckless power of Niagara, the way the earth seemed to shake under the water’s weight. His heart raced with something close to reverence.
“There you are,” Geetha’s voice cut through the roar. She and Gautam appeared at his side, wind tugging at their clothes. “Don’t just vanish like that. This isn’t Hyderabad; you’ll get lost.”
Bharat grinned. “You were coming anyway.”
Gautam laughed easily. “He’s not a kid.”
“I know, I know,” she said, but her hand found the railing as if anchoring herself. “It just feels… different here.”
Bharat swept an arm toward the falls. “Different? Miss, look at this! I never thought I’d stand here in real life. Only in photos.”
Geetha’s answering smile was soft, almost shy. In the pale Canadian sun, her skin took on a silvery glow, and Gautam, standing just behind her, slipped his arms around her waist. He bent, rubbing his chin against the cool silk of her cheek. She tilted her head, brushing a kiss along his jaw, eyes still fixed on the waterfall.
Click.
Bharat had stolen her phone and snapped the moment.
Geetha spun, cheeks flaming. “Bharat!”
“What?” He was all innocence. “You come to Niagara and don’t take couple photos?.”
“Not of that,” she hissed.
Gautam’s hands settled on her hips, pulling her gently back against him. He pressed a slow kiss to the curve of her neck. Bharat clicked again.
Geetha swatted at the air. “Stop it!”
Gautam’s voice was warm against her ear. “Relax. It’s our phone. We’ll delete them later.”
Bharat’s eyes glinted with mischief. “Sir, just once—proper lip kiss, falls in the background. Come on, it’s iconic.”
Geetha snatched the phone. “Have you no shame? People here might do that, but we don’t.”
Gautam turned her chin toward him, thumb brushing her lower lip. “I like his idea.”
“No,” she whispered, but it lacked force.
“No one knows us here, Geetha,” Bharat teased.
Gautam didn’t wait. He cupped her face and kissed her—slow, deliberate, claiming. The shutter clicked again. When they parted, Geetha’s laugh was breathless; she pushed lightly at Gautam’s chest, then turned back to the falls, hiding her blush behind a curtain of hair.
“You two,” she muttered, “no shame at all.”
They lingered, taking ordinary photos after that—arms around shoulders, wind whipping hair across faces, the falls a constant roar behind them. Below, the Maid of the Mist boats cut white wakes through the churning river.

Bharat bounced on his toes. “We have to do the boat. Like the paddle boats by the Buddha statue, but a thousand times better.”
“We’ll get soaked,” Geetha protested.
“They give raincoats,” Gautam said.
“And then we’ll have to change, and might catch a cold—”
Bharat caught her hands, swinging them playfully. “Please, Miss. We have luggage. Hotel’s ten minutes away.”
Gautam ruffled Bharat’s hair. “Coffee first. Then boat.”
He headed toward the café. The moment he was out of sight, Bharat’s arms slid around Geetha from behind.
She stiffened. “Bharat—people.”
“No one’s looking.” His palm slipped beneath the hem of her T-shirt, fingers splaying over warm skin. “At home your sweat runs down your waist in the kitchen just like this waterfall.”
Goosebumps rose under his touch. “Take your hand out,” she whispered, but didn’t move away.

He nosed aside her hair, lips grazing the nape of her neck. “One kiss. Like he got.”
“You’re impossible.” Still, her head tilted, granting access.
His mouth found the soft spot below her ear; teeth grazed lightly. A family nearby shifted farther down the railing.
Geetha exhaled shakily. “He gave permission last night, not a free pass in public.”
Bharat turned her to face him, hands framing her waist. “When we got back to the room—he was asleep, right? He didn’t ask anything.”
Her eyes flicked up, dark and conflicted. “I was terrified. Don’t you understand limits?”
“I understand you always give in when I ask,” he said softly.
Color flooded her face. “It’s too much. Three times in one day—I’ve never… not even with him.”
His thumbs traced small circles through the fabric. “Tell me, what’s the problem?”
“My back is killing me,” she admitted in a rush. “You took me on the floor last night like the world was ending. No blanket, no pillow, nothing. I haven’t had a proper breath all day.”
Remorse flickered across his face. He brushed a kiss to her cheek. “I’m sorry. Tonight I’ll massage it properly.”
Her laugh was half a groan. “Touch me there again and I’ll feel something very different from pain.”
“Promise?” He grinned.
She pinched his side hard. “You’re sleeping alone tonight, understand?
“Birthday night is for your husband,” he teased.
The word birthday made her mouth droop. Gautam still hadn’t remembered.
Geetha: What kind of a birthday is this? Look, he hasn't wished me yet. Maybe he forgot.
Bharat: Oh, really... Oh my, is the teacher angry at Sir?
Geetha: Hmm...
The two stopped talking when Gautam arrived.
He gave Geetha a coffee and Bharat a tin of hot chocolate.
Bharat: Sir, can I kiss Miss?
Gautam: You can.... he replied with an easy smile.
Geetha sipped her cup. Bharat sipped his hot chocolate.
As she raised her eyelids to look at Bharat, he suddenly kissed her on the lips.
Gautam laughed watching them.
Though Geetha was initially stunned, she liked the taste of chocolate on his lips, accepted it, and joined her tongue.
The two passionately sucked on each other's lips, oblivious to the world.
Gautam's surprise knew no bounds. He realized at that moment how much Geetha loved Bharat's kiss.
Unable to watch it with his own eyes, he turned his face away.
Noticing that Gautam had turned his face away, Bharat took a step back, breaking the kiss and leaving her lips.
Geetha stood silently, looking at the waterfall.
The murmurs of the surrounding crowd and the sound of the cascading waterfall created a peaceful music.
Gautam returned then, balancing coffees and a tin of hot chocolate. Bharat released her instantly.
“Hot chocolate for the kid,” Gautam said, handing it over.
Bharat took a sip, then—before Geetha could react—leaned in and kissed her squarely on the mouth. Chocolate, sweet and warm, passed between them. She froze for half a heartbeat, then melted, tongue sliding against his, hands rising to grip his shoulders.
Gautam’s smile faltered. Something sharp twisted behind his ribs as he watched his wife respond—really respond—to an eighteen-year-old boy. The roar of the falls filled his ears like blood.
Bharat pulled back first, breathless. Geetha stared at the water, lips swollen, saying nothing.
They drank in silence until Geetha’s phone buzzed—a video call from Chandana and Vandana.
As soon as the call was accepted, Chandana and Vandana wished her at the same time, "Happy Birthday Geetha Miss."
Geetha: Thanks to both of you.
Vandana: Miss, Bharat has taken you to give him a party. What about us?
Laughing, Geetha: I’ll give you one too when I come there.
Geetha looked at Gautam, who was right next to her.
Chandu: Miss, is that your husband?
Geetha: Yes, she said... and turned the selfie camera towards Gautam.
Gautam waved his hand and said hi.
Chandana: Hi Uncle.
Vandana: Hi Sir.
They both said at the same time.
They laughed at the word "Uncle."
Gautam: It's alright. Are you enjoying your holidays?
Chandu: We also came for a tour of Maharashtra.
Geetha: Oh, with whom?
Vandana: Family, Miss.
Bharat was quietly listening to their conversation.
Vandana: Show us Bharat, Miss.
Geetha: Here, talk to him.
Vandana: Hey, how are you?
Bharat: I'm good. When did you go to Maharashtra?
Vandana: This morning. We planned to go to Shirdi as well.
Bharat: Oh...
Gautam: By the way, who among the two of you is our Bharat's girlfriend? ... he asked.
At Gautam's question, both felt shy and chuckled softly.
Geetha: It's not one; it's both of them.
Gautam: Wow... one boyfriend for both sisters?
Vandana: Hahaha...
Chandu: He is my boyfriend.
Gautam: Oh...
Vandana: No, he is my boyfriend.
Geetha laughed.
Bharat: Stop it... he said, pouting.
Gautam: Just joking.
Geetha: She took the phone and showed the waterfall to both of them.
Chandu: Wow, Miss... are you near Niagara Falls?
Geetha: Yes.
Chandu: Of course, you like Bharat a lot.
Geetha: Hey, shush... she signaled.
Chandu: Oops...
Bharat snatched the phone and walked away.
Gautam: Did he only romance with you or with them too?
Geetha: Hey, why does that matter to you?
Gautam: I just asked.
The people around them slowly cleared out.
Noticing that no one was nearby, Gautam held Geetha tightly by the waist and pulled her close.
Geetha was surprised by the sudden embrace and looked directly at Gautam, not understanding.
He bent his neck and kissed her lips.
Gautam: Happy Birthday, sweety.
Smiling, she said, "Thanks."
Gautam was looking at her intoxicatingly.
She held her husband's head and took his lips again.
Gautam: What gift should I give you?
Geetha: I don't want anything.
Gautam: Ask for whatever you want.
In that intoxication, only one thought came to Geetha's mind.
She lowered her gaze and said, "I want Bharat," trembling slightly.
Gautam was lost in thought.
Gautam: What? ...he looked at her, confused.
She kissed him. Although her lips were trembling anxiously beneath her husband's, she gathered the courage to state her intention clearly.
Geetha: I want him. I want to fuck him... I've done it.
He released her waist. He was stunned and silently looked at Geetha, then turned to look at Bharat, who was talking on the phone in the distance.
Geetha's lips were trembling, and her hands, unable to stay still, squeezed Gautam's shoulders.
Geetha: I made a mistake... won't you forgive me, please...
Gautam: What are you asking for?... and suddenly, in anger, he slapped her cheek.
Geetha's eyes filled with tears. She hugged him tightly.
Geetha: Forgive me... I hid something. I'm afraid that you'll find out. I can't bear to hide it from you.
Gautam: Gone that far?
Geetha: Please, darling. I want Bharat. Scold me, hit me, but you must understand. I told you beforehand because I was afraid of how angry you would be if you found out.
He held her face and lifted it up.
They looked into each other's eyes, and he wiped Geetha's cheeks.
He tightly embraced his wife and kissed her on the forehead.
Holding her face in his palms and looking her in the eyes, Gautam said: I had this suspicion when you told me you made Bharat sleep beside you.
Geetha: If you are angry, hit me, scold me; I will bear it.
Gautam: What's the use of scolding now, you did the same as me. I couldn't stay with you, could I?
She put a finger on Gautam's mouth and stopped him.
Geetha: Don't say that.
He slapped her cheek again and laughed.
Gautam: Shameless woman.
Geetha: So, you agree?
Gautam: Would I say no if you ask?
Geetha: Really?
Gautam: I won't stop you. All this is normal nowadays.
Geetha: Oh... I was afraid of what you would say... she said affectionately.
Gautam: Why be afraid now when you weren't afraid before you did it?
She kissed his lips.
Bharat cut the call and looked at them, finding the two of them fighting with their tongues (deep kissing).
He approached them and, laughing, Bharat: Should I talk on the phone for a little longer?
Hearing his words, they stopped kissing.
Looking at Bharat's face, Gautam's thoughts were troubled. The fact that this eighteen-year-old boy had fucked his beautiful wife began to be forcibly digested, surrendering to the circumstances.
Bharat: Miss, the tenth-grade results are supposedly on the 27th.
Geetha: Is that so?
Gautam remained silent.
Bharat: Miss, what will you give me if I get a 10 GPA?... saying this, he hugged her.
Geetha: Whatever you ask for.
Saying this, Geetha saw that Gautam's face lacked a smile and she detached herself from Bharat.
Afterward, the three of them took a ticket for the "Melody of the Mist" boating, put on the raincoats given by the boating officials, and went boating near the falls.
Although they were getting wet in the Niagara spray, their clothes didn't get too wet because of the raincoats.

While Bharat was very enthusiastic, Geetha and Gautam kept looking into each other's eyes, starting to feel some sorrow.
Even though Gautam had agreed to what Geetha said, a small sadness couldn't help but sprout in a corner of his heart.
