Kavya’s hand, which had been flailing for balance moments before, now found its way to his shoulder, gripping him for support. His shoulder was solid, firm beneath her touch, and she instinctively curled her fingers into the fabric of his shirt, pulling herself closer.
The movement was involuntary, a reflex, but it felt like it came from a deeper place, like her body wanted to be anchored to him. Her breath, warm and unsteady, brushed against his neck, and she felt a soft shiver run through her at the proximity.
His scent, earthy and faintly smoky from the morning fire, mixed with the fresh forest air, intoxicating in its intensity.
"I don’t want to pull away," Kavya thought, the words circling in her mind like a quiet mantra. "His warmth... his strength. I want to stay like this, close to him. There’s something safe in this closeness, something comforting... but dangerous, too."
Her heart hammered in her chest, a slow, steady thud that seemed to match the rhythm of her breaths. She didn’t know if it was the vulnerability of the moment or the simple act of being held so closely by him, but something inside her unraveled just a little.
She could feel the warmth of his body seeping into hers, the heat of his arm around her waist, and it was both grounding and electrifying in equal measure. The tension between them was thick, an undercurrent neither had acknowledged yet, but it hummed beneath the surface, pulling them closer with every passing second.
Naveen’s arm tightened ever so slightly around her waist, supporting her as they began to move slowly, carefully, the weight of the moment settling between them.
His body was solid beneath her touch, and with each step they took, it felt as though everything else had faded into the background, like the whole world had quieted, leaving just the two of them in the foreground, moving in unison.
Her body instinctively leaned into him, seeking the quiet security of his presence, the strength of his support. It wasn’t just physical; it was something deeper, something emotional, a comfort that she hadn’t realized she needed until now.
She didn’t look up at him, she didn’t need to. The sensation of being so close to him, of their bodies moving together, was enough. Every time their feet shifted in tandem, every time his hand adjusted around her, it felt like an unspoken promise.
A promise of safety, of trust, of something that neither of them had yet to define but both could feel in their bones.
