She thinks of Neetu and Sirisha, the way they had flirted with him so easily, their attention so direct, so unguarded. "I know Ravi... he’s not perfect. He’s only human." The thought settles into her chest with an unexpected comfort. “He’s not a saint. He’s not immune to temptation.”
“And maybe... maybe that’s what happened. Maybe they tempted him. Maybe in a moment of weakness, he was drawn in by their attention.”
The more she thinks about it, the more it makes sense. “What man could resist? If someone threw themselves at him like that... he’s only human.”
Her mind circles back to the quiet moments between them, the tenderness in his touch, the way his presence always seemed to ground her. "I know he loves me. I can feel it now, in the way he’s holding me, in the way his hands are so careful with my injury. He’s trying. He’s been trying all along."
Ravi’s fingers pause on her ankle for a moment, and Priya feels an odd ache in her chest. He’s been waiting for her to react, to acknowledge what happened. But what’s more important now is what he’s doing now, what he’s showing her with each careful movement, with every look he gives her.
Her heart softens just a little more as she watches him. “This is who he really is. This is who I’ve always loved.”
His hands move again, pressing gently against her ankle, and for the first time, Priya feels something like relief. It’s the feeling of a weight lifting, of forgiveness slowly, quietly blooming in her heart. It’s not all gone, not yet.
There’s still the pain of betrayal, still the confusion. But there’s also compassion, understanding, and the quiet recognition that sometimes, things aren’t as clear-cut as they seem.
“It wasn’t entirely his fault. He didn’t plan this. He didn’t want to hurt me. I see that now.”
She exhales softly, letting the thoughts settle. It’s not all resolved, but something has changed. Something inside her has started to heal.
Ravi finishes applying the balm, his touch lingering for a moment before he slowly moves his hands away.
Priya looks up at him, her heart full of unspoken emotions, and for the first time in a long while, she feels like she’s finally ready to forgive.
“Thank you, Ravi,” she whispers, her voice low but sincere.
He looks up at her, his eyes soft with relief. “I’ll always take care of you, Priya Didi. Always.”
And in that moment, Priya realizes the truth: whatever has happened, whatever mistakes have been made, she can still trust him. She can still love him.
