“This is just because I’m hurt,” she told herself, trying to hold on to the wall she’d built around her emotions. But with each step, the wall began to feel thinner, as if it might crumble at any moment.
The way his body pressed so against hers made her skin burn in a way that wasn’t from the injury, but from something deeper. Desire.
Her breath caught when he adjusted his grip around her waist, just a bit too intimately for a casual walk to the bedroom, his fingers slipping just a fraction lower against her back.
His hand felt hot, almost searing against her skin. Why did it have to feel so right? His touch was so steady, so safe, but it also stirred something inside her, something she hadn’t allowed herself to feel for so long.
She couldn’t ignore the quickening of her pulse, the subtle shiver that ran down her spine as she leaned into him, the curve of his chest warm against her side.
She could feel the rhythmic beat of his heart, and it made her wonder if he was struggling with the same pull, the same longing that had suddenly awakened in her.
Her skin seemed to burn in the places where his hand touched, where his body was close to hers, and she found herself reluctant to break that closeness.
“He’s just helping me. That’s all.” She repeated the words in her mind, but the intimacy between them was undeniable.
Each step toward her bedroom felt like a step toward something more complicated, something that might never be healed by just a simple apology or the soothing balm of time.
She felt the weight of everything between them as they moved together, silent, close, yet so far apart.
Her presence was overwhelming, all-encompassing, and yet, Ravi knew that he couldn’t, shouldn’t, let himself cross the line that had been drawn between them, a line built from his own mistakes.
“She’s hurt. She needs your care, not your desire. Don’t let her feel that... don’t let her see that.” The thought flitted through his mind, sharp as a blade, but it didn’t stop the deep ache building in his chest, or the way his body responded to her touch.
