Chapter-1
Rubika felt a sense of relief when she reached Patna airport. During the flight, she was in a dilemma about whether her decision was right or not. But once she reached Patna, she made clear to herself that she was not doing anything wrong. It was part of her job, and she didn’t want to be left behind just because she was married.
Her news channel has selected a team of 20 reporters to cover the Bihar election. She used to anchor a 30-minute show called “Sahu, bahu and drama” which covered Bollywood and daily soap updates. She was not sure how she was going to cover the Bihar election, as it was her first experience in election reporting.
Her news channel has booked a whole floor in a top hotel of Patna for the whole team of reporters and editors. After checking in her room, she got a message on WhatsApp group, named “Bihar Election Team,” that the Editor has called a meeting in one hour. She took a quick shower and got ready for the meeting.
She took a glance at herself in the mirror when she was all ready for the meeting. She was wearing a white cotton shirt with blue denim jeans. Her ID card was hanging over her breasts. She was 5 feet tall, which enhances her moderate 34B boobs and makes them look bigger.
She had put of some weight after her marriage, but it had only made her more attractive. Her thick thighs and big ass was the center of attraction among her male colleagues. Many even tried to flirt with her, as it is very common to have an affair among colleagues in a corporate environment. Most of her colleagues were having flings or affairs, but she never responded to any advances since she didn’t want to cheat on her husband.
She loved her husband as he had always taken good care of her and never misbehaved with her. But things have changed since her mother-in-law moved in with them. She thought they started to fall apart as the intimacy decreased due to constant tension. Maybe this distance will give them a break from all that tension, and things will get back to how they were.
The meeting ran for about an hour, during which the Editor explained what exactly was expected from each member of the team. Many Bhojpuri actors, actresses, and singers were about to contest in the election, so Rubika's sole responsibility was to cover these superstars. The editor specifically pointed out that, since it was the time of social media, reporters were asked to look for the content that could go Viral on social media. Nobody wants to see real issues; people are only interested in controversies and viral content.
“The Election Commission will conduct the press conference tomorrow to announce the dates for the election, and the day after that, our news channel has organized a Media conclave where all the top leaders of Bihar will come, so only after two days, you all will leave for the ground reporting.” The editor concluded. After that, everyone left for the dining hall.
“Hello” Rubika got a call from her husband, Rehan, just as she entered the dining hall.
“You reached”
“Yes”
There was a silence for about a minute after that. Rehan spoke, “ Don’t you want to say something?”
“What am I supposed to say?”
“You just left like that without even asking for permission from mom; she is very upset since you left,” Rehan blurted out.
Rubika was expecting that Rehan would encourage her and wish her good luck for her assignment, as he always has done, but she got furious when he talked about her mom rather than asking how she was feeling.
“Permission? Permission!!!!! Who the hell does your mom think she is? I am an independent working woman, I don’t need anyone’s permission to live my life,” Rubika replied, her every word was filled with anger. She didn’t want to start an argument with him, so she cut the call and put her mobile on silent mode. She was very disappointed with her husband's behavior. She had no expectation from her mother-in-law, but she wanted respect and comfort from her husband, which was missing.
Her mood was ruined. She didn’t want to eat anything. She felt an urgent need for fresh air, so she left the dining hall and came out of the hotel, and started walking. It was her way of dealing with such type of situation. She was walking aimlessly on the patna’s crowded road when she heard someone calling out to her.
“Rubika? Is that you?” She turned back to see who it was. A 30-year-old man was standing in front of her. His face seemed familiar to her, but for a moment she couldn’t remember who he was but then memories hit her, and she remembered who he was.
‘Abhishek’ her senior in the mass communication course at Delhi University. She, as well as other girls of her class, had a huge crush on him back in college days.
