Naveen reached into the water, feeling for the object beneath the current. When he lifted it, a small, silver chain shimmered faintly in the light. It was tangled with a few strands of her hair that had fallen loose during her search.
Kavya’s breath caught in her throat, and her heart skipped a beat as her eyes flicked to the object. “That’s it!” she whispered, as if afraid the moment might slip away.
She reached out carefully, her fingers brushing against his as she took the bracelet from his hand, clutching it close to her chest, as if protecting it from the world. “Thank you, Naveen,” she whispered, her voice full of quiet relief.
“I never thought I’d feel this much relief over something so small... but it’s not just the bracelet. It’s the way he’s here. He just… understands. He doesn't need to say much, but somehow he makes everything feel okay.”
He smiled faintly, the curve of his lips gentle but warm. “You’d have found it anyway,” he said softly, his eyes catching hers. “I just happened to see it first.”
“Did he just… let me believe it was me? Why is it that he makes everything feel less heavy, just by being here?” Kavya’s thoughts flickered, but the moment was too tender, too raw to linger on confusion. She smiled, soft and grateful.
She shook her head slightly, her expression softening with gratitude and something else, something deeper. “Still… thank you,” she said quietly, then added with a small smile, “You don’t talk much, do you?” Her tone was playful, but there was an undercurrent of something more, a moment of connection, however small, that she wasn’t willing to let go.
Naveen looked at her for a second, a slight chuckle escaping him as he studied the smile that lingered on her lips. “Not unless I have something worth saying.”
Her laughter was soft, almost melodic, coming from a place she hadn’t expected to feel so soon. It was the kind of laugh that softened the edges of the day, that made the world seem just a little less uncertain.
