Groom demands already married elder sister-in-law as Dowry - on the day of marriage
#6
Scene 6: The Chariot

Jeevan: (Shouting to a man at the gate) "Driver! Get the Fortuner. Bring it to the front portico. Now! Today God has blessed me with two wives." Driver! Fortuner nikaalo. Use saamne portico mein laao. Abhi! Aaj bhagwan ne mujhe do patniyon ka aashirvaad diya hai.

The driver, looking confused but scared, ran to fetch the large black SUV. Jeevan turned to the two sisters. He put one hand on Preet's shoulder, who flinched, and his other hand grazed Sukhmani's arm.

Jeevan: "Listen carefully to the arrangement, as it will be from now on. First, Sukhmani will sit. Then, I will sit in the middle. And then, Preet." Baithne ka intezaam dhyaan se suno, kyunki ab se yahi hoga. Pehle, Sukhmani baithegi. Phir, main beech mein baithunga. Aur uske baad, Preet.

Manjeet Kaur: (Wailing) "No! Jeevan, please! Have mercy! Don't take both my daughters! This is... this is against God!" Nahi! Jeevan, kripya! Rehem karo! Meri dono betiyon ko mat le jao! Yeh... yeh bhagwan ke khilaaf hai!

Sukhmani: (Her voice dead, devoid of emotion) "Maa, stop crying. It is useless. You are embarrassing Papa." Maa, rona band karo. Iska koi faayda nahi hai. Aap Papa ko sharminda kar rahi hain.
The Fortuner pulled up. The driver opened the back door. Jeevan smiled broadly at Sukhmani.

Jeevan: "Go on, my darling. Your place is waiting. By the window, so everyone can see the new Mrs. Jeevan. The elder Mrs. Jeevan." Chalo, meri jaan. Tumhari jagah intezaar kar rahi hai. Khidki ke paas, taaki sab nayi Mrs. Jeevan ko dekh sakein. Badi Mrs. Jeevan ko.
Sukhmani gave her parents one last, long look. Her father couldn't even meet her eyes. She then turned, her back straight, and climbed into the SUV, sliding all the way to the far side.
Preet just stood there, frozen, until Jeevan pushed her gently from behind.

Jeevan: "Your turn, little one. Get in." Tumhari baari, choti. Andar baitho.
Preet stumbled, climbed in, and huddled against the other door. Jeevan then got in, seating himself in the large space between them. The car door shut with a heavy, final thud.

Jeevan: (To the driver) "Drive. Take us home. And tell the guards to lock the gates behind us. The celebrations are over." Gaadi chalao. Humein ghar le chalo. Aur guards ko kehna ki hamare peeche gate lock kar dein. Jashn khatam ho gaya hai.
