## Update 37: The Ruler's Secret Mark and the Week Off (Avi and Komal/Mala/Chacha)

During the college lunch break, Mala came to meet me again.

Mala smiled, her expression small and hopeful. “Did you eat lunch?”

“Yes,” I replied, feeling the familiar awkwardness of her focused attention.

She tilted her head, her voice soft and conversational. “How are your studies going?”

“They’re going well,” I said, keeping my answer short, hoping she would take the hint.

“If you have any problems, I can help you. I’m strong in math,” she offered sincerely, stepping slightly closer.

“No, that’s not needed. I’m studying with my sister, Komal,” I stated. It felt strange to have to use Komal as a shield, knowing my relationship with Komal was the only truly innocent thing I was doing lately.

“I have some old papers from previous exams. I can show them to you if you want to see them,” she pressed, her expression hopeful, desperate to connect.

“I don’t think they’ll be much help,” I said, looking away to keep my distance. A quick flicker of visible hurt crossed Mala’s face at my rejection.

“Okay. If you ever need me, just let me know,” she said, her smile fading as she realized I was set on leaving.

I started turning away. “I have to go to class. I’m leaving.”

“Bye,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Mala keeps trying to stay close to Avi, but he keeps pulling away from her

---

After college, I came home, finding my Chacha unexpectedly home today. A sudden chill ran through me. I worried immediately that maybe one of my Chachis had told him about the bathroom incident with chacha.

“Avi, come here,” my Chacha called out, his voice ringing loud from the sitting room.

I walked towards him nervously. “Yes, Chachaji?” I asked, my heart pounding in my chest, bracing myself for a scolding I knew I deserved.

He announced, his expression serious. “Your Chachis and I are going to a village on Monday.”

“Which Chachi?” I thought, confused about the logistics. I asked aloud, “With Meena Chachi?”

“No, with all three Chachis. We’re going to meet a Maharaj to ask for his blessings,” he explained.

“For how many days?” I asked, a huge wave of relief washing over me, immediately replaced by a curious surge of unexpected freedom.

“We’re going for a week. You’ll go to Pooja Bua’s house to sleep for a week. And you’ll stay at home all day and study. Don’t go to college while we are away,” he instructed, laying out the new, strict rules.

“Neha Bua said I should study with Komal,” I countered immediately, protecting my new routine.

He conceded with a nod. “Okay, go for two hours then, as long as you’re home most of the time.”

“Yes, Chachaji,” I said, and he nodded, satisfied that the blessings were secured and the house was covered.

---

I went to my room to pack my bag when I suddenly remembered that I had to give Komal the ruler as promised. I quickly took the ruler out from under the bed, grabbed the bag, and left for Neha Bua’s house. I noticed Kavita had already gone to Leena’s house. *Maybe she couldn't find another time to study,* I thought dismissively.

I went straight to Komal’s room. Neha Bua was sleeping, which seemed to be her standard afternoon rest time.

“Sit down,” Komal said, smiling warmly. “Do I have to say this every day? This is your house, too.”

I sat down, and we quickly started studying. When we had to draw a geometry figure, Komal asked, looking around the desk. “Did you bring the ruler today?”

“Yes,” I said. I took the ruler out of my bag and handed it to her. Komal started making the figure, but then she paused, holding the ruler up to the light near the window. “Why is there a mark on this ruler?” she asked, her brow furrowed slightly.

She held the ruler closer, her eyes scrutinizing the small line. “Why is there a mark at 21 cm?” she asked. (My penis is about 8 inches long, and she was looking at a mark at 21 cm).

I instantly froze. *I forgot to erase that mark,* I realized, a sudden wave of hot panic hitting my chest. My mouth instantly went dry.. That mark was the exact one I had used to measure my lunď length before my rough sessions with Madam.

“I just made it like that,” I said, trying to sound casual, forcing a distraction into my voice. “I don't even remember why I did it.”

Komal shrugged and quickly moved on, thankfully dismissing the strange mark. “Now I’ll have to practice writing out the derivations for these formulas,” she said.

“But how will you get the questions and problems to practice?” I asked, immediately trying to refocus the conversation.

“If I could get some old question papers, it would be a huge help to see what they ask,” she said, her voice hopeful.

“You need old papers?” I asked, a thought clicking into place, connecting back to my earlier encounter.

“Do you have them?” she asked, her eyes widening slightly.

“I don't have them myself, but my friend might,” I lied easily, remembering Mala’s offer.

“Can you bring them for me?” she asked, leaning forward with excitement.

“Yes, I’ll bring them tomorrow,” I promised. Just like yesterday, Bua came in with the tea. After we finished, I quickly left for home.

---

When I got home, I went to the ground to play, but it was already 5:30 p.m., and nobody was there.

Then I thought of going to Mala’s house. I’d ask her to bring the papers tomorrow. Today is Friday. If I tell her today, she can bring them to college tomorrow. Anyway, I have a week off from Monday, so I need to get as much done now.

I walked quickly toward Mala’s house. I found her standing outside, perhaps waiting for someone.

“Oh, Avi, you’re here. Why did you come here today?” Mala asked, a genuine surprise and excitement lighting up her face.

“I came to meet you,” I said simply, not wasting words.

“Me?” she asked, her eyes widening slightly at my directness.

“Yes. You said you had old exam papers. Can you bring them to schoool tomorrow? I need them for Komal,” I said, getting straight to the point.

Mala nodded fast, her face turning slightly anxious as she glanced down the street. “Okay, I’ll bring them. Now you should go. If someone sees you with me, it’ll be a problem—people talk.” she said, her voice filled with urgency, worried about the gossip.

“Bring them tomorrow,” I said, already walking away, the job done quickly and efficiently.
