Scene 2
[Ananya and Vikram’s Apartment – Mid-week Evening]
(The apartment is quiet. Ananya is in the living room, stretching after her evening workout. She’s wearing a comfortable t-shirt and shorts. Vikram walks in from his study, holding a book, a far-off look in his eyes.)
Ananya: Where were you? I was calling.
Vikram: At the bookstore. I found a good book. I also met Priya there.
Ananya: (Pausing her stretch, raising an eyebrow) Oh? She likes books too?
Vikram: Yes. She’s… quite interesting. She talks a lot, but she listens too. She asked about my work, actually. She really listened.
Ananya: (Smiling) She’s lovely, isn't she? So much positive energy. (She thinks of Rohan's confident charm.) Rohan also… he’s very engaging. I met him today at the coffee shop.
Vikram: Oh? What did you talk about?
Ananya: Just general talk. He invited me to his cafe. Said he'd make me a special coffee. He’s got a way with words, that one.
(Vikram's lips form a thin line. The air grows thick with unspoken thoughts. Ananya continues her stretch, lost in thought. Vikram pretends to read his book, but his mind is replaying his conversation with Priya.)
[Later that week – A Coffee Shop in Khan Market]
(Ananya sits at a corner table, sipping a latte. Her client is late. Rohan walks in, holding a coffee.)
Rohan: Ananya! You’re here?
Ananya: Rohan! Yes, I’m waiting for a client. Your cafe is close by, right?
Rohan: Yes, just nearby. You've never come? I'll make you a special coffee.
Ananya: Maybe next time. With the client.
Rohan: The client is fine. But you should come alone sometime. There’s a certain vibe to my place you’ll appreciate. Especially after a good workout.
Ananya: (Laughing) Oh really? What kind of vibe?
Rohan: One that will make you feel even more energetic. Trust me. You must need energy, managing so much.
(Ananya feels a thrill. Her client calls just then, and Rohan, with a polite nod, walks away, leaving her with a sense of anticipation.)
[Another day – At a Bookstore]
(Vikram is lost in the architecture section. He reaches for a rare book, and another hand is already on it. It’s Priya.)
Priya: Oh! Sorry! You wanted this too?
Vikram: Priya? No, no. You take it. I was just looking.
Priya: Really? I was just looking at the building on the cover. This is for your work, right?
Vikram: Yes, it’s an architecture book. You're interested in this?
Priya: A little bit. Rohan says I just look at pretty buildings.
Vikram: (Smiling) You're absolutely right.
Priya: So, you don't get frustrated? Sometimes, I feel like, just build everything as I like.
Vikram: I do. But then you see a good design come to life, and it’s all worth it.
Priya: True. Shall we go? I just came to get a novel. Now even these architecture books are starting to look good. (She winks.)
(They walk towards the counter, a comfortable silence between them. He feels an ease he rarely feels with new people. Later that evening, he thinks only of Priya.)
