Neetu caught their exchange, her eyes sparkling with amusement, but there was something more in her gaze, a knowing smile that lingered.
“Careful, Ravi,” she teased, her voice laced with playful mockery. “You’re making me jealous.”
Ravi laughed, but inside, he felt the tension in the air shift. There was something intoxicating about the way Sirisha responded to him, the way she leaned in, closer, as if the world had faded away.
The playfulness between them felt new and exciting, unpredictable. The warmth of the moment wrapped around him, and he found himself caught between the two women, each one pulling at his heart in their own way.
The space between them felt like a promise, one that neither of them had yet spoken aloud.
The room settled into an easy silence, the tension from earlier in the week now forgotten. The laughter and easy conversation created a sense of camaraderie, of closeness, of something far deeper than a mere gathering. It was as if the world outside could have collapsed, and they wouldn’t have noticed.
But then, the phone on Neetu’s side table buzzed, shattering the quiet. The moment fractured. Neetu tensed, her fingers automatically reaching for the phone, but her smile faltered just for a second as she saw the name. Priya Didi.
She picked up the phone, though her hand was slightly shaky, and answered with her usual calm, composed tone.
“Hello, Priya. How are you?”
Priya’s voice came through, soft but with a trace of exhaustion, and the conversation veered toward Amit’s father’s passing and updates about their plans.
Neetu, listening intently, answered kindly.
“We’re all doing fine here. Everything’s good.” She paused, glancing at Ravi and Sirisha, unaware of the tension that had already started to rise in him.
Behind her, unaware that Priya was on the line, Ravi leaned a little closer to Sirisha. His fingers playing with her breasts, pulled her tender nipple and pinched a little.
He whispered something low that made her giggle, stifled, but still audible enough to reach the receiver.
Priya paused.
“Neetu… is that Ravi? I thought I heard his voice.”
