The clock blinked 3 PM. Uncle and Ruby had a quick lunch earlier, and Uncle had gone out for a quick errand,… while Ruby decided to finish her bath to receive the boys later.

Besides, she herself had mentioned to the boys that it was going to be a casual dinner… So, she looked for something casual.
It was not as simple as she thought it would be. Sarees, Salwars,… Dresses,… the struggle to choose the dress was a battle of heart and mind. She wanted to look perfect for her evening,… but not too desperate. Her heart kicked up a notch as her eyes fell on a satin purple dress, its plunging neckline screaming for attention.

They all moved to the dining table spread with the feast - Steaming Biryani, fragrant with saffron. Spicy chicken 65, garnished with curry leaves and finally, chilled raita, and salad. Ruby began serving them,… her movements graceful but nervous, and her saree swished as she leaned to place food on their plates.
Sumit: It smells so wonderful, Uncle.
Manoj: I can’t wait to dig in….
Ruby was really surprised at how well the boys behaved. They always teased and asked for this or that pic in the group,… but here, now, she couldn’t believe if it was the same naughty group that was in front of her.
But, then,… it slowly began.

Ruby: Eyes widening into bulbs,… They ?…. she blurted out, mouth controlling the blushing smile.
Rahul: Yeah,.. the chicken I meant, Bhabhi…
Ruby: Oh,….. She smiled, her cheeks turning red.
Ruby: Control Ruby,… Don’t blush like an idiot !
Rahul: Can I see.. I mean have,.. some more ?
Ruby really blushed really like an idiot, hearing him,… with a lip curled smile.
And this time, instead of leaning across the table, she went around and stood next to Rahul. Bending a little, and standing close to him… as she placed a few more chicken pieces onto his plate, Rahul whispered into her ear…
Rahul: Bhabhi,… You are ever more hotter in person.
Rahul: The purple saree and the purple… bra like blouse did no justice.
Ruby’s mouth hung open into a wide smile,… and everyone, including Uncle looked at her.
Apart from this little banter, the boys were mostly good, unlike how Ruby knew them,… and their conversation was casual, directed mostly at Uncle. They talked about how good the food was,…. enquired about Uncle’s gardening at the backyard,… and about how neatly he kept the house.
Ruby sat there quietly, serving seconds to each of them, and her shyness kept her words few. But as the meal went on, the boys’ warmth drew her in. She too chimed in, her voice tentative… and soon she and Uncle too started with their food.
After dinner,… the mood continued. The boys shared their college stories,… Manoj and Raj pulling each other’s leg - soon the room was filled with laughter and teasing. A few of their teasings and compliments, subtle but charged, were focussed at Ruby too. They made her heart race, but nothing out of order. The boys behaved so well that Ruby was so surprised by it,… and she felt a very warm feeling towards them.
Rahul: Uncle,… I hope you still take laps at the pool ?
Uncle: Oh no, Rahul. Its making me breathless…
Rahul: You shouldn’t stop Uncle. I can teach you some gentler strokes.
Rahul: But, you must be consistent.
Ruby: Oh, you teach swimming Rahul ? I didn’t know !
Rahul: Just for a few, Bhabhi.
Uncle: Oh, that reminds me,… !
Uncle: Ruby, didn’t you say you wanted to learn swimming ?
Rahul: No way, Bhabhi. You wanted to learn?… he asked, excited.
Ruby: Never got a chance…. she smiled, meekly.
Raj: What chance? You have the pool right there, Bhabhi. Just jump in.
Rahul: I could teach you….
Ruby: Teach me !…. A blush crept in, again.
Manoj: We can help too, Bhabhi…
Sumit: Yeah, we can have you swimming laps in no time.
Ruby: Swimming lessons !… With them !!…. I don’t know.
Ruby’s mind flashed to herself in a swimsuit,….. the water clinging to her body, the boys’ eyes on her as they guided her strokes. Blood rushed back to her cheeks, and a mix of excitement and nervousness returned to her belly.
Raj: Come on Bhabhi, it will be fun. and it’s a great exercise.
They all insisted and Ruby was indeed interested too,… but being in the pool, in close proximity with the boys,…. it kept running in her mind. It was a good exercise after all… and would be good for her too, but….
Rahul: Besides, you can force Uncle to swim too…
The room filled with laughter aloud,… and Ruby laughed too.
Their offer hung in the air like a promise… for more playful, charged moments to come.
