Then, through the corner of her eye, she saw him.Vikram Sood.An arrogant smirk rested on his face as he sauntered by, his eyes deliberately meeting hers.He was tall, well-built, exuding an irritating confidence that seemed to fill the room with its presence.

Her heart sank for a moment.
The reason was clear.

A little while later, footsteps approached her desk.

“Kinaza,” Mr. Sinha’s voice was polite, measured.
She looked up, her expression brightening at first.

“I have a new assignment for you,” he said.
Her heart lifted.
The Sion project prestigious, important.
This was the kind of work that could set her apart.

But then Mr. Sinha added, almost as an afterthought,“The team will be led by… Khanna Sir.”
A small shadow crossed her joy.

As Mr. Sinha turned to leave, Kinaza noticed his path crossed Vikram’s.
Her ears sharpened without intention, picking up fragments of their conversation.

“…Yeah, Sion project. Khanna Sir’s leading, and of course, Vikram Sood will be part of it.”

Vikram’s smirk seemed even more insolent now, as if he knew exactly how this news would unsettle her.Her fingers tightened around her pen.
