Sukanya: Hey Nithi.

They sat and spoke some random things about the place.
Nithi: It’s cold out here. Can we go to the room and speak?

Sukanya held her hand in assurance.

It was not a question. Because if it was so, she couldn’t answer her. She gave a half smile.
Sukanya: Let’s go to your room.
Nithi smiled and led her to her room. They both walked in silence. Nithi’s roommate was not there in the room. They sat together in Nithi’s bed, but didn’t speak a word. They need an icebreaker.
Sukanya: I have very few friends. I’d like to make new friends. Would you like to be my friend?
Nithi looked at her with a smile. She always held her in so high regard that she felt inferior to her. She was so glad that she values her friendship. She immediately hugged her without a warning. Sukanya: Had your dinner?

Just then her roommate Priya entered. She had a look of indifference when she looked at Nithi. Just as she shifted her look towards Sukanya, it changed.
Although the girls despised her, she held a respect among the class. They realize that even Prof. Srini held her in high regard.
Priya: Hi Sukanya. How are you?
Sukanya: Fine Priya. Can I stay in the room for some time?
Priya: No problem at all. You can stay as long as you want.
Nithi was happy at the submissive tone of her roommate Priya who behaves rudely with her. She decided to take advantage of it.
Nithi: She wants to stay here tonight. Would you mind?
Sukanya was baffled as it was not the plan, but staying away from Ragini was a comfort for her.

Ragini somehow felt relaxed that she need not face Sukanya. Her guilty conscious would not allow her to look into her eyes.
Ragini: No problem, dear.
She was lost in thoughts. She felt so uneasy, but acted normal. She also didn’t get any calls that night. She was so glad.
Meanwhile at Nithi’s room, they sat in silence. Sukanya was tempted to talk about Nithi’s affair, but she restrained as she was already uncomfortable.
Sukanya: You sleep Nithi. We have to wake up early tomorrow morning as we need to go to a waterfall which is quite far from here.
Nithi: Thank you for being kind with me.
Sukanya: Kindness is not a favor. It’s a trait of a friend, isn’t it?

Sukanya: Come here dear.
She invited her and hugged her tight.

Nithi felt a sense of relief and belonging. She kissed her on her cheek and expressed her thanks. Just then she got a call. She picked her phone and showed it to Sukanya. She smiled and encouraged her to take the call, and she rolled away from her. She drifted into a deep sleep. The next morning when she woke up, she saw that Nithi was already almost ready. She thought she had woken so late, but it was 7:30 AM. She was already dressed and getting herself done. Sukanya moved in her cot which Nithi noticed.
Nithi: Good morning, Sukanya.

Priya: Sorry to disturb you. Can I take my bags? By the way, would you mind if I move to Ragini’s room?
Nithi didn’t know what to say.
Sukanya: Not at all.
Priya picked her bags and moved to her room. Sukanya also decided to get her bags.
Sukanya: Her Nithi. I’ll also get my bags.

Xavier: How did you befriend her?

Nithi: Why did you smile at that guy?

Nithi: I’m fine dear. I only think that you need excuse to sit beside your friend. So, you are using me as an excuse.

Sukanya calmed down. She looked at Nithi and knocked on her head gently as she also laughed in return. They seemed to have become friends in quick time. They started to talk in whispers. Nithi talked to Sukanya subtly pointing to Praveen.
Nithi: But I feel that he has feelings for you. He always looks at you with some pain and love.
Sukanya: Stop it. You talk whatever comes to your mouth.
Nithi giggled like a child which Sukanya liked very much. She nudged Sukanya and signalled with her eyebrows to look at Praveen.
Nithi: Did you see him looking at you when you are not looking at him? He looks away when you turn towards him.
She laughed as she said that. Sukanya pinched her playfully.
Nithi: But I have to say one thing. He is very cute.
Sukanya: Ah huh. Then you can take him.
Nithi: What? I already have more than enough.

Nithi looked at her with slight embarrassment and shame. She gave a pause.

Nithi: Please don’t hate me. I know I’m bad, but you are my first friend in the college. I can’t bear the thought that you look down upon me.
Sukanya: Nothing like that. The girls must be waiting. We need to go.
Nithi: I know you are unhappy with me.
Sukanya: Not at all. Why would I mind? It’s your freedom to have as many friends as you want.
Nithi: Promise me you won’t hate me.
Sukanya: You should choose how you live your life. Why would I hate you?
Nithi: Not for what you think about me, but what I’m going to tell you.
Sukanya: I promise.
Nithi hesitated to continue. She was gathering all her courage to speak her mind. Sukanya did not know why she was struggling so much.
