12. Forward

Geetha's first day at college was a blur of confusion and new faces. The sprawling campus of the government college in Karimnagar felt vast and intimidating. After walking through the main gate, she found herself facing a fork in the path, with two walkways leading to a labyrinth of classrooms. Feeling shy and out of place, she hesitated, unsure which way to go. She noticed a group of boys nearby but couldn't bring herself to ask for directions. Just then, she heard the sound of laughter behind her. A boy and a girl, deep in conversation, noticed her standing there looking lost.

"What are you looking for?" a male deep voice asked from behind.

Geetha spun around, startled. She was met with the sight of a tall, fair-faced, and handsome man, who was easily six feet two inches. 

Taken aback by the sudden question, she stammered, "Uh, uh... I was looking for the first-year B.Sc. MPCS classroom."

A smile touched his lips. "Oh, first-year? It's on the right side, room number twelve."

"Thanks, anna," Geetha replied, using the respectful term for an elder brother.

"You're welcome, sister," he said, before he and the girl with him continued on their way.

Later that afternoon, as Geetha was leaving, she spotted the girl who had been with the handsome man from the morning. The girl was standing near a tree by the gate. She was fair, a little chubby, with thick lips and a charming smile. 

The girl waved, a warm invitation for Geetha to come closer.

Feeling a pang of shyness, Geetha approached her.

"What's your name?" the girl asked.

"Geetha," she replied softly.

"Oh, I'm Deepa. Deepakruthi," she said, extending her hand. They shook hands.

"Where are you from?" Deepa asked.

"I'm from Garrepalli," Geetha said.

"I'm from Aithrajapalli," Deepa replied.

"Oh."

"Why did you call my brother in law  'anna'?" Deepa asked with a teasing glint in her eyes. "Is he not handsome? Why did you feel like calling him 'anna'?"

Geetha was caught off guard, and her mind went blank. She stammered, "It's not like that... the word just came out."

Deepa laughed. "It's okay. My friend is coming. The three of us can go together after she arrives. She's also from your village."

As they talked, they overheard a conversation nearby. "Hey, I had a child marriage. Go away," a sweet female voice said with a hint of exasperation.

"Who believes in child marriage these days?" a male voice responded. "I love you, Sindhu, please talk to me just once."

Geetha turned to see a girl in a white churidar walking briskly. As she moved under the trees, slivers of sunlight broke through the canopy, illuminating her face and making her glow like the moon. She was stunning, with an air of pride, a touch of shyness on her lips, and confidence in her stride. A man was following her, captivated by her beauty. Geetha couldn't help but feel a flicker of awe and a bit of jealousy.

"Sindhu, wait for a second," the man pleaded.

Sindhu stopped. "Hey, don't you understand when I tell you? Leave me alone, I have to go home, I'm hungry."

"You've known me since the first year, but you've never paid attention to me once."

"What did I tell you? I had a child marriage. Did you hear that? Why are you chasing a married woman?"

Deepa was giggling, but Geetha just watched, confused by the girl's words.

"Okay, tell me your husband's name," the man challenged her.

"Shiva, AIEEE fourth rank. He is at IIT now," Sindhu said with a straight face.

The man laughed. "Don't joke, Sindhu."

"Okay, it's not a joke. Stop, or I'll complain to the principal that you're teasing me."

The man, defeated, walked away. Sindhu came over to Deepa and Geetha, looking annoyed.

"Twenty-seven," Deepa said, still chuckling.

"What?" Sindhu asked. "Are you counting?"

"Twenty-seven, including this guy."

"Oh, shut up."

"Seniors, juniors, a guy from another college, the guy at the bus stand... there are so many."

"A moon among stars is always like that," Sindhu retorted with a wry smile.

"Oh, you're not lacking in anything. Let's go, it's already late."

Sindhu's eyes fell on Geetha. "You? Here?" she asked.

"Uh... first-year."

"Oh, did you just come today?"

"Yes, we met this morning." Deepa answered for her.

Sindhu looked Geetha up and down. "Deepa, do you think she can get at least four guys to follow her?"

Geetha's jaw dropped.

"Hey, shut up," Deepa said, playfully nudging her. "She's just come today."

Sindhu pulled Geetha's left cheek and gave it a gentle pinch, laughing. "She's so cute."

Geetha pouted and pushed Sindhu's hand away, rubbing her cheek. "Why do you pinch like that akka?"

Sindhu just laughed. "Hahaha... Let's talk on the bus."

Geetha walked silently with them to the Karimnagar bus stand. As they waited for their bus, a boy from another college began staring at them, his eyes traveling from head to toe. 

Geetha, feeling a little nervous, put her hand on Deepa's shoulder. "He's looking at us..." she whispered.

"It's nothing, don't look," Deepa said calmly.

The boy looked at Geetha, raised his eyebrows, and whistled. Sindhu heard it and looked disgusted.

"Don't go. Wait, we'll leave when the bus comes," Deepa said, holding Geetha back.

The boy moved closer, standing right beside Geetha. She felt uncomfortable and held Deepa's hand tightly.

"Hey, why are you scared?" Deepa asked.

"He's looking weirdly," Geetha said, her voice barely a whisper.

Sindhu stepped in front of the boy. He smiled at her.

"You're looking at her, won't you look at me?" Sindhu challenged.

"You're so beautiful, you must have a boyfriend. which college?"

"Government College."

"What? Are there so many beauties in a government college? Wow."

"Okay, I need a favor. Will you do it?" Sindhu asked.

"Yes, you ask, I'll do anything."

"Hmm... When the bus comes, will you save us three a seat? If you do, You can have a kiss."

Both the boy and Geetha were shocked. Deepa just burst out laughing.

When the bus arrived, the boy ran ahead, put his book on a seat to reserve it, and quickly got on. Once they were also on the bus and found their seats, he sat in the seat next to theirs. 

Leaning over, he whispered in Sindhu's ear, "You said you'd give me a kiss? Where?"

Sindhu pointed to Geetha. "Not me, she'll give it to you."

The boy's face lit up with a smile. Geetha, feeling a wave of nervousness, said loudly, "No, I won't give it."

"Poor Geetha," Sindhu whispered, "he saved us a seat."

Geetha turned her face away in annoyance. "You talk to him and do whatever you want, but don't drag me into it."

Sindhu leaned closer and whispered in Geetha's ear, "Do you know what a flying kiss is?" 

Geetha nodded. "Give him that. Poor guy, he had high hopes, didn't he?"

"Uh-uh, I can't do it," Geetha insisted.

"Hey, just give it, it's nothing," Sindhu urged.

Blushing, Geetha hesitantly moved a little closer, looked at the boy, put her hand to her mouth, and made a 'phew' sound, blowing a flying kiss. Then, out of sheer shyness, she hid her face in Deepa's direction.

"You said 'kiss,' and this is it?" he asked, looking bewildered.

"Or do you want a lip-to-lip kiss?" Sindhu retorted. "This is more than enough for your face. Go away."

"Is this a joke for you? I'll tell you after you get off the bus," he threatened.

"What will you do, raa?" Sindhu asked playfully.

"Raa?"
"Yes, raa. Shut up and go away. We said you’d have a kiss, and she gave one."

He got off the bus, looking defeated.

"Why do you do things like this?" Deepa asked Sindhu. "What if he gets aggressive?"

"There are so many people on the bus, what can he do? Nothing," Sindhu said, unfazed.

"You made her uncomfortable," Deepa added, looking at Geetha.

"Sorry, Geetha..." Sindhu said, taking Geetha's hand.

"It's okay," Geetha replied.

"Shall we go to a movie tomorrow?" Sindhu asked.

"Okay, whatever you want," Deepa said.

"Geetha is coming too."

"I won't come, I have to study," Geetha said firmly.

"Hey, classes haven't properly started at college. You're our friend now, you have to come."

"Uh-uh, no. My family won't agree. Besides, I'm not used to it."

Sindhu put her hand on Geetha's shoulder and pulled her closer. "Geetha, why are you so shy? When I first came to college, I was like this too, always thinking about studying. I didn't even know what going to a movie theater was like since childhood, you know. It won't help if we are like this."

"No, maybe you don't study much, but I have to study. I won't come."

"Hey Geetha, we're asking you because you're our friend from now," Deepa interjected. "Why are you bringing up studies like that? Do you know Sindhu is the university topper? Don't say that again."

"It's okay," Sindhu said, waving it off. "But why talk about studies? Geetha, tell me, what do you say for tomorrow?"

"I don't know, I have to tell them at home, right? And akka you know how strict my dad is,”Geetha said, wavering.

"Okay, let's meet after college tomorrow," Sindhu said with a mischievous glint in her eye.

And so, Geetha, Sindhu, and Deepa became good friends. Geetha and Sindhu started going to and from college together, and the three of them fell into the habit of hanging out.

A year passed, and Geetha was now in her second year. She was at Sindhu's house, sitting in her room with a sex storybook. The two of them were engrossed in their reading. Sindhu slowly put her hand on Geetha's shoulder, pulled her close, and rested her head on her shoulder.

Geetha immediately closed the book.

"What happened?" Sindhu asked.

Geetha's face flushed. "Oh, Akka, I can't read those cuss words."

"I'll read, you listen," Sindhu offered.

"Oh, no."

"Why?"

"It's too much," Geetha said, still blushing.

Suddenly, Sindhu leaned in and kissed Geetha on the neck. Geetha was shocked and moved away. Sindhu put the book aside, placed her hand on Geetha's right boob, and caressed it. The touch sent a shiver of passion through Geetha, but she quickly pushed her hand away.

"What's this, Akka, a-"

Sindhu laughed. "Hahaha... I was just teasing. Don't you want to read?"

"Let's read, but don't put your hand on me."

Sindhu opened the book again. "Come on."

The two of them continued reading.

"Hey, I want to get married and have a first night right now," Sindhu said dreamily.

"You would, if you had no shame," Geetha retorted, a smile playing on her lips. "You’ve spoiled me too."

"Geetha, why don't we marry the same guy?"

"Hey, are you crazy?"

"Yes, let's both pounce on him together, once you, once me."

"Ew, stop it," Geetha said, pretending to be disgusted. "You have no shame, you have no brain. All these crazy thoughts."

"That's not it, Geetha. You tell me, who's your best friend?"

"You are," Geetha said without hesitation.

"I think of you as my own sister. Let's marry the same guy, so we can always share everything like this."

"Oh, Akka, stop it."

"It's true. You think about it. Reading these stories makes me feel like that."

"Akka, I'm leaving. Let's meet tomorrow." Geetha got up and opened the door.

"Wait, Geetha. Okay, okay, let's forget about that. Come sit, let's do something else. I'm bored."

Geetha came back and sat down. Sindhu got up, closed the door, and sat down.

"Tell me," Geetha said.

"I don't know, nothing's coming to mind."

"Akka, next year, you and Deepa won't be here," Geetha said, a hint of sadness in her voice.

"That's right," Sindhu replied.

"Will you get married after you finish your degree, Akka?"

Sindhu moved closer and took Geetha's hand. "I'll tell you something, but don't tell anyone."

"What?"

"I have a boyfriend."

Geetha's eyes widened in surprise, and then she laughed. "Oh, so that's why you talked about child marriage?"

"Hey!" Sindhu said, swatting her playfully.

"So with so many guys lined up here, he managed to win you over first? Who is that lucky guy?"

"Shut up."

"Tell me, tell me, Akka, won't you tell me your love story?"

"Since childhood, in eighth grade."

"Oho since eight grade, you hurried chick," Geetha teased.

"Hey... go away, I'm not telling you."

"Hey, tell me, please."

Just then, Sindhu's mother called the two of them.

The next day, Geetha, Deepa, and a boy named Sai were in the college ground, reading poems, laughing, and talking.

"Your friend is very romantic, anna," Geetha said to Sai. "Wow, he's really crazy in love.”

"Yes, we're laughing, but he's somewhere in a foreign country now, still searching for her."

"Is he really that much in love since he was so young?" Geetha wondered aloud. "What if that girl is married now, will he be able to handle it?"

"I don't know."

Behind Sai and at a distance, Sindhu appeared. Geetha immediately called out, "Sindhu Akka." Sindhu saw Geetha, then looked at Sai in front of her, and quickly hid behind a tree.

"What's this?" Deepa said. "She's going away even after seeing us."

"Wait, I'll talk to her," Geetha said. "Anna, can you give me that paper?"

"Why?" Sai asked.

"Don't ask why, just give it to me..." Geetha, blushing, tried to snatch the paper, but Sai held on to it, laughing.

"I'll tell you what," Sai said. "If that girl marries someone else, you marry him, Geetha."

"Go away, bro," Geetha said playfully. "What if he's not good-looking?"

"He's handsome."

Geetha finally snatched the paper and, blushing, ran toward Sindhu. She walked briskly, turned behind the trees, and saw Sindhu about to leave the college. "Sindhu Akka, wait, I'm coming too," she called out.

Sindhu stopped and waited by the gate. Geetha reached her, a little breathless.

"Why are you leaving when I'm calling you?" Geetha asked. "We were over there, you could've come."

"No, I thought we'd meet tomorrow."

"Tell me the truth. Were you planning to go home without me?"

"Sorry," Sindhu said with a small smile.

"Okay, let's go, Akka. Deepa said she's going with Sai bro."

"Hmm..."

"Akka, her friend, apparently. He writes poems very well."

"Oh..."

After reaching the village, the two sat under a tree in Geetha's front yard and talked. 

Geetha opened the paper with the poem, and Sindhu began to read.

Geeta twisted the paper in her hands, her cheeks warm. "They're nice, aren't they?" she said, her voice a soft murmur.

Sindhu leaned back, a knowing smile on her lips. "Hmm... they're okay," she replied, her eyes narrowing slightly. "But who is this guy anyway?"

Geeta shrugged, a blush creeping up her neck. "I don't know, akka. Sai anna said he's his friend. I forgot to ask his name."

A pause stretched between them. Sindhu's gaze was sharp, probing. "Is there anything else?"

Geeta's fingers tightened around the paper. "Mm... The other day he messaged Sai anna with a love letter he wrote for a girl. It was so good." As she spoke, she gushed, twisting and turning while looking at the paper.

"Oh, you read that and fell for him?" Sindhu's question was a gentle jab, but it hit its mark.

Geeta was taken aback for a moment, turning her face away to hide her expression. "It's nothing like that," she insisted, though her voice lacked conviction. "I just liked them."

"Oh, please," Sindhu scoffed playfully. "You don't even know his name and you're getting shy while talking about him."

Geeta looked at her sister again, her eyes pleading. "They're nice, aren't they?"

"Not that great," Sindhu said with a dismissive wave of her hand. "He just wrote them okay. Is he some big writer like Sri Sri or something or what?"

Geeta quickly snatched the paper back, her sudden movement startling.

Sindhu laughed, a rich, full sound. "What, are you getting so emotional? You're the one who fell for the poems and you're calling me a foolish dummy."

Geeta held the paper close to her chest. "Anyway, he's writing them for some other girl, and he's just sending them to Sai anna first to ask if they're good."

"Oh, so you and Deepa are just reading them and laughing, is that it?" Sindhu asked, her tone a mix of amusement and something else, something softer.

"Yeah..." Geeta trailed off, her voice growing quiet. "Okay, akka, I'll be going now." She made to leave, but Sindhu's hand shot out, taking the paper from her.

"Let me keep this with me," Sindhu said, a mischievous glint in her eye.

Geeta hesitated for a moment, then nodded, a shy smile gracing her lips. "Okay, keep it."

Finals were looming, casting a shadow over Geetha and her friends. While she had other classmates, she was closest to Sindhu and Deepa. The trio decided to make a night of it—a marathon study session followed by a slumber party at Deepa's house.

After hours of cramming, they finally collapsed into bed, all three squeezed onto the same mattress. Deepa claimed a blanket for herself, leaving Geetha and Sindhu to share the other. A cool breeze drifted in from the open window, making the shared warmth even more welcome.

Sindhu, without thinking, shifted closer to Geetha and dbangd her leg over her. Her knee found a spot right between Geetha's thighs, a familiar, unconscious gesture. "Geetha, it's cold," Sindhu murmured sleepily.

"Mmm..." Geetha replied, a new feeling bubbling up inside her.

Sindhu wrapped a hand around Geetha, pulling her into a tight hug. The warmth was comforting, and something else—a different kind of heat—was starting to build.

"Do you want it?" Sindhu's voice was a low whisper.

"Yeah..." Geetha breathed out.

Sindhu's left hand slowly slipped under the edge of Geetha's Punjabi dress top, her fingers tracing a path down to her waist.

"Akka, no," Geetha said, her voice laced with a mixture of protest and desire.

"Shhh," Sindhu hushed, "that's waking her up."

"I'm awake," Deepa's voice chimed in from the other side of the bed.

"Can't you sleep?" Geetha asked, a hint of annoyance in her tone.

"That's why I'm saying it..." Sindhu replied, her fingers finding the drawstring of Geetha's pajamas.

Geetha's eyes fluttered shut as she began to writhe slightly from the touch. Sindhu's hand moved lower, her middle finger finding and stroking Geetha's clitoris. A shiver ran through Geetha's body. She squeezed Sindhu's hand tightly.

"Isss... Akka," she hissed.

Sindhu bit Geetha's earlobe. "How is it?"

"No, Akka, it's wrong," Geetha whispered, though her body was telling a different story.

Sindhu took Geetha's hand and placed it on her own left breast. Geetha's fingers closed around it, a soft, hesitant squeeze.

"Mmmmm..." Sindhu moaned.

Three of Sindhu's fingers began to stroke Geetha's labia. Geetha trembled, her thighs parting slightly in invitation. Sindhu's fingers moved with a confident rhythm, rubbing just at the juncture of her inner thighs.

Sindhu plucked at a few stray hairs there. "Ah, Akka."

Deepa’s voice cut through the air. "That's her husband's job, what's it to you? Go to sleep."

"You shut up," Sindhu shot back, a quiet laugh in her voice.

Geetha's arms found their way around Sindhu's waist, pulling her closer.

"Ahh, Abba, the chick is getting in the mood," Sindhu said with a chuckle.

They looked over and saw that Deepa was gone. Assuming she had stepped out for a moment, Sindhu whispered, "Geetha, do you know, your Sai brother will come here now."

"What? Why?" Geetha asked, her head snapping up.

"Deepa went outside," Sindhu explained. "They'll have some back door."

"Really?" Geetha's eyes widened.

Sindhu's fingers continued their gentle ministrations as she leaned in and kissed Geetha on the neck. "Mmmmm..." Geetha moaned, her body melting into the touch.

"Shall we go and see?" Sindhu's voice was a dare.

"No, no, ugh," Geetha said, shaking her head.

"Come on, let's see, Geetha, say yes."

"No, Akka, it's not right," Geetha insisted, but the curiosity was eating at her.

"It's fine, come on," Sindhu urged.

They both crept out of the room and towards the back of the house. Just then, they heard the sound of someone climbing over the compound wall. They ducked behind a corner, their hearts thumping in their chests. Step by step, they moved closer to where Deepa was. In the southeastern corner of the wall, a couple was locked in a tight embrace. Geetha's mouth fell open in surprise.

Sai was holding Deepa close, kissing her neck, while Deepa was moaning softly, pressing his face against her breasts.

"Akka, isn't this wrong?" Geetha whispered, shocked.

"They're like that," Sindhu replied nonchalantly. "I only found out one day when i came here like this."

Sai was now biting Deepa's lower lip, a hungry, possessive gesture.

"Abba, he's eating her up, isn't he?" Sindhu's voice was a mix of awe and amusement.

"Yeah..." Geetha breathed, her eyes glued to the scene.

As they watched, Sai pulled off Deepa's T-shirt. She wasn't wearing a bra, and her full, breasts were exposed. He immediately took one into his mouth.

"Akka, when did she take off her inners?" Geetha whispered.

"That horny girl, she probably went to the bathroom and took it off," Sindhu said with a laugh.

"Akka, shall we go inside?" Geetha said, her voice trembling slightly.

"Why?" Sindhu asked.

"I can't watch. I thought Sai brother was a good person, but he's so crude," Geetha said, a sense of disappointment in her voice.

"Hahaha... that's how it should be, Geetha," Sindhu chuckled. "He should be a saint outside, and in the dark, he should be this crude and pounce on you. Abba, he's eating them."

"She only has so much now," Geetha said, a protective instinct kicking in. "If he squeezes them like that, what will they become?"

"Yeah, you're right," Sindhu agreed, still watching with fascination.

"Akka, let's go inside. Who cares if someone comes, what's it to us?" Geetha finally said.
"Okay, let's go," Sindhu conceded.

Back in the room, they burrowed under the blanket and whispered in the dark.

"I know why you said we should go," Sindhu said, a mischievous grin on her face.

"Why?" Geetha asked.

"Because he was going to take off his pants, right?"

"Hey, shut up," Geetha said, swatting at her. "That mouth of yours is always saying those things."

A comfortable silence fell between them for a moment before Geetha broke it.

"Akka, will they do that now?" she asked, her voice quiet.

"Shall we go and see if they do it or not?" Sindhu's voice was a low hum.

"Ugh, you are the only one I could find to spoil me," Geetha groaned, a smile on her face.


Years passed, and their degree came to an end. Life pulled them in different directions, and they all went to Delhi. Geetha felt a profound sense of loneliness without her two closest friends. Even though Sindhu was in the same village, their paths rarely crossed. 

They met a few times after Sindhu completed her postgraduate studies, but once Sindhu went abroad, their connection was lost entirely. 

Deepa and Sai never met up again, and they didn't even attend Geetha's wedding, despite her sending them an invitation. The memories of that night, however, remained with Geetha, a secret chapter in the story of her youth.
