Tuesday Afternoon – Coffee and Claims
They were walking back toward the scooty when Varnika nudged his arm with a sly grin.
“So… boyfriend,” she said, emphasizing the word like it was new territory.
“A real boyfriend wouldn’t just drop his girlfriend at the gate and zoom off.”
Abhi raised an eyebrow. “Oh? And what’s the job description then?”
“Coffee,” she said instantly. “I want coffee. A good one, not that watery canteen stuff.”
He smirked. “You’re bossy for someone who just promoted me to boyfriend.”
“Perks of the title,” she shot back, walking a few steps ahead of him.
“You get my company and my hugs. I get caffeine and pothole-free rides. It’s a win-win.”
Abhi laughed, shaking his head. “What if I say no?”
She turned to face him, mock serious, her hands on her hips.
“Then I’ll tell everyone my boyfriend doesn’t know how to treat me. Do you want that reputation?”
He grinned, leaning a little closer. “You’re really enjoying this, aren’t you?”
“Oh, absolutely,” she said with zero hesitation. “You look good as a boyfriend. Feels… natural.”
She paused, then teased, “I’m not asking for couple selfies yet, don’t worry. Coffee first.”
At the Coffee Shop
Ten minutes later, they were seated in a quiet café just outside campus. Varnika had chosen the corner table, like she owned the place.
“This is better,” she said, leaning on her elbows, chin propped in her hands. “Now it looks like a proper date.”
Abhi took a sip of his cappuccino, smiling. “So I’m buying your coffee and playing boyfriend. What else is on the list?”
She pretended to think, tapping her finger on the table.
“Hmm… maybe a long ride next weekend. You can upgrade from ‘boyfriend on trial’ to ‘official boyfriend’ if you pass.”
Abhi chuckled. “I didn’t know I was interviewing for a role.”
“You’re doing great so far,” she said with a soft, teasing smile. “Though I’m still suspicious about your pothole tactics.”
“Still on about that?” he laughed.
She leaned forward slightly, her tone dropping just enough to make his chest tighten.
“Well, it’s hard to forget when you make me hold on that tight.”
Abhi set his cup down, unable to stop the quiet grin forming on his face.
There was no jealousy, no distance in her voice anymore.
Just Varnika being bold, warm, and entirely herself.
