Chapter 15: Ravi & Kumar (Act 4)

Lina had always been a hard worker, but taking on a more active role in the sundry shop had given her a new sense of purpose. The shop, nestled in the heart of their neighborhood, had quickly become a bustling hub. Most days, it was filled with familiar faces...neighbors picking up their daily essentials, kids stopping by for snacks after college, and the occasional passerby drawn in by the shop’s charm. It was a far cry from her previous routine, and she found herself enjoying the rhythm of it all.

Rahim had been thrilled when she suggested joining him full-time. “It’ll be better this way,” he’d said with a wide grin. “We’ll be working together, building something for us.” And he was right. The shop had flourished, with the locals appreciating the convenience and the personal touch Lina and Rahim brought to their service.

But tonight wasn’t about the shop’s success alone. It was about celebrating a milestone, a moment to acknowledge how far they’d come. They had invited Ravi and Kumar to join them, though Lina couldn’t help but feel a pang of unease at the thought. The two were Rahim’s closest friends, but they also carried a history with her that she’d rather forget.

As she adjusted the straps of her dress, Lina took a deep breath as she smoothed the black mini dress over her hips, the fabric clinging to her curves in a way that made her cheeks flush. It was a rare moment of indulgence, something she wouldn’t have chosen for herself. But Rahim had insisted, saying she deserved to feel beautiful for the celebration. She glanced at herself in the mirror, tugging slightly at the hem. It was shorter than she was used to, and the neckline dipped just enough to draw attention to her ample cleavage. She bit her lip, hesitating.

Lina couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched. She glanced at Rahim, who was busy fixing his shirt in the mirror. He looked so proud, so confident in this step they were taking together. She didn’t want anything to ruin that especially not the lingering presence of Ravi and Kumar.
“You ready?” Rahim asked, turning to her with a warm smile.

Lina nodded, forcing a smile of her own. “Ready as I’ll ever be.”

Little did she know, the night would test her resolve in ways she hadn’t anticipated.
“You’re stunning, Lina,” Rahim said, stepping up behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist. His warm breath tickled her ear as he whispered, “You’re killing me in that dress.” His hand slid down to the small of her back, fingers brushing the curve of her ass through the soft fabric. She felt a shiver run down her spine, but she quickly pushed the thought aside.

“Rahim, it’s a bit… revealing, don’t you think?” she murmured, tilting her head to meet his gaze in the mirror. “What will people say?”

“Who cares what they say?” he replied with a grin, his hands sliding around to rest on her hips. “You’re my wife, and you look incredible. Let them stare if they want to. Besides, it’s our celebration tonight. You deserve to shine.”

Lina sighed, though a small smile tugged at the corners of her lips. She knew Rahim loved seeing her dressed up, even if it made her feel a little self-conscious. She turned to face him, smoothing her hands over his chest. “Alright, but don’t blame me if we cause a scene,” she teased lightly.
Rahim chuckled, leaning in to press a soft kiss to her forehead. “Let’s go, gorgeous. The night’s waiting for us.”

As they stepped out of their flat, Lina couldn’t shake the lingering unease in her stomach. She had put the past behind her those secret moments of weakness with Ravi and Kumar were buried deep in her memory.

She glanced down at herself, tugging self-consciously at the hem. “It’s too short, isn’t it? I told you I shouldn’t wear this.” “No, no,” Rahim insisted, his voice low and appreciative. “You look stunning. Perfect for the celebration. Besides, it’s just a bar. Nothing to worry about.”

Lina sighed, her fingers nervously playing with the strap of her clutch bag. “I don’t know, Rahim. Ravi and Kumar are going to be there, and you know how they are.”
“They’re harmless,” Rahim said, though his tone lacked conviction. He squeezed her waist reassuringly. “Come on, let’s not keep them waiting.”

She was determined to focus on her life with Rahim, on their shop and their future together. But the thought of seeing those two men again tonight stirred something unsettling in her chest.

The bar wasn’t far, and the walk was filled with Rahim’s cheerful chatter about the shop’s success so far. Lina smiled softly, listening to his excitement, but her mind kept drifting to what lay ahead.

When they arrived at the bustling bar, the sound of lively music and chatter spilled out onto the street. Rahim held the door open for her, his hand brushing against hers as she stepped inside. The air was thick with laughter and the clinking of glasses, and Lina scanned the room until her eyes landed on Ravi and Kumar sitting at a corner table a bottle of whiskey and four glasses set out in preparation. Ravi’s eyes lit up the moment he saw Lina, his gaze immediately dropping to her cleavage before snapping back up to meet hers.

“Hey there, lovebirds!” Ravi called out, waving them over. His eyes lingered on Lina a little too long, and she could feel his gaze tracking every movement as she approached.

Kumar grinned, raising his glass in a mock toast. “Looking good, Lina. That dress is… something else.”

Lina’s smile tightened, but she kept her composure. “Thank you,” she replied simply, sliding into the seat next to Rahim. She crossed her legs, hyper-aware of how the dress clung to her body.

Rahim, oblivious to the tension, clapped Ravi on the shoulder. “Thanks for setting this up, guys. It’s great to celebrate with friends.”

“Anytime, buddy,” Kumar said, his eyes flickering back to Lina. “We’re just glad you both could make it.”

Lina reached for her drink, taking a slow sip as she tried to ignore the weight of their stares. Tonight would be a test, one she was determined to pass. She was here with Rahim, and that was all that mattered.

The conversation started off innocently enough from talk about the shop, the business, and the neighborhood. But it didn’t take long for the undertones to shift. Ravi leaned forward, elbows on the table, his eyes never leaving Lina as he spoke.

“So, Lina, how’s it been working in the shop? Must be tough, dealing with all those customers. You being such a… delicate woman and all.”

Lina forced a smile, choosing her words carefully. “It’s been fine. I enjoy it. It’s nice to be closer to home.”
“I bet it is,” Kumar chimed in, his voice smooth but laced with something darker. “Though I imagine some of the customers can be a handful. You must get tired.”
“Not really,” Lina replied, her tone polite but firm. “I manage.”

Ravi chuckled, reaching for the whiskey bottle and pouring himself another drink. “Well, if you ever need a break, you know where to find us. Right, Kumar?”
Kumar nodded, his gaze shifting to Lina’s chest again. “Right. We’re always here to… help.”

Lina’s cheeks burned, and she glanced at Rahim, hoping he’d step in. But he was busy pouring himself a drink, seemingly oblivious to the tension at the table.

As the evening wore on, the alcohol flowed freely, and the conversation grew more intimate. Ravi and Kumar took turns making thinly veiled comments, their words dripping with innuendo. Lina tried to brush them off, focusing on her drink and the occasional reassuring squeeze from Rahim’s hand under the table.

But then Ravi leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. “Lina, do you remember that camping trip? When we… talked?”

Her stomach dropped, and she froze mid-sip of her drink. “Ravi,” she hissed, her voice low but sharp. “That was a mistake. It shouldn’t have happened.”
Ravi’s lips curled into a sly smile. “Mistake or not, it happened. And I haven’t forgotten.”

Kumar smirked, clearly picking up on the conversation. “Neither have I.”
Lina’s heart pounded in her chest, and she glanced at Rahim again, praying he hadn’t noticed. But he was deep in conversation with someone else now, oblivious to the danger brewing at their table.

Ravi reached out, his hand brushing against hers on the table. “Relax, Lina. We’re just talking. No harm in that, right?”
She pulled her hand away, her nerves fraying. “This isn’t appropriate.”
“Isn’t it?” Kumar asked, his voice dripping with innuendo. “We’re just friends celebrating a special occasion. What could be inappropriate about that?”

Lina stood up abruptly, her chair scbanging against the floor. “Excuse me. I need some air.”

She didn’t wait for a response before making her way to the bar’s outdoor patio. The cool night air was a welcome relief, and she leaned against the railing, trying to steady her breathing.

But it wasn’t long before she heard footsteps behind her. She didn’t need to turn around to know who it was.

“Lina,” Ravi said softly, his voice dangerously close. “You shouldn’t be out here alone.”
She turned to face him, her expression hard. “Leave me alone, Ravi.”
He took a step closer, his eyes dark with desire. “I can’t do that.”
