Monday Evening – The Dinner That Mends
Prelude: Varnika’s Message
The sun had just begun to dip, casting a golden haze over the city.
Abhi came back home and finished his quick shower.
He came out of the bathrrom, fresh out of the shower in his flat
Towel around his shoulders, when his phone buzzed.
Varnika:
"So… want to try normal again? Let’s eat out tonight.
The three of us. My treat. You’re not allowed to say no."
A pause. Then another message.
Varnika:
"Don’t make it awkward. I said what I said. I meant it. I’m trying to mean it again."
Abhi smiled, not in amusement, but in quiet admiration.
He read the message twice.
She was trying.
That was all that mattered.
He typed back slowly:
Abhi:
"I’ll rent a car. You’re not paying for anything. Pick you up at 7:30pm?"
The reply came instantly.
Varnika:
"Fine. But only if it’s something stylish. I want to pretend we’re in a movie tonight."
