8. Fetish!

February 28th dawned, and with it, the morning classes. 

Ramya was engrossed in her Biology lesson, but across the room, Vikas’s attention was solely on her. Bharat sat beside Vikas, occasionally interjecting as Vikas spoke to Koushik.

“Hey, you mentioned a plan the other day. What came of it?” Koushik nudged Vikas.

Vikas looked blank. “What plan?”

“The one about tricking Ramya ma’am, remember?” Koushik prompted. “Did you forget?”

“Oh, right,” Vikas mumbled, his gaze drifting back to Ramya. “But I’m drawing a blank on what to do.”

“You said you were having a personal chat with her. What’s she saying?” Koushik pressed.

“Yeah, just passing the time,” Vikas admitted, “but I’m stuck on how to take it further. It’d be a huge problem if something went wrong.”

Bharat, who had been listening intently, interjected, “Chatting? Since when?”

“It’s been about a week,” Vikas replied. “She chats with me at night.”

“Oh, really?” Bharat’s eyebrows rose.

Koushik chimed in, “The three of us even made a group on WhatsApp.”

“What are you guys chatting about?” Bharat’s curiosity was piqued.

Vikas leaned in conspiratorially. “Man, just look at the teacher… her butt. I just want to grab it tight once. We’ve been trying to get close to her, looking for a chance to do something.”

Koushik added, “Her husband doesn’t care about her, that’s why she chats with us.”

“She even video-called me,” Vikas boasted, his eyes wide. “Dude, she was in a nighty then. You should’ve seen her boobs, how high they were.”

“Video call?” Bharat was surprised. “How did you pull that off?”

“It just happened, man,” Vikas shrugged. “You gotta give me an idea, will you?”

Bharat recalled his own past exploits. “Ask her if she’ll come out if you say it’s an outing?”

“Like what?” Koushik asked, intrigued.

“You guys said she chats, right?” Bharat explained. “Ask her if she’ll come out next Sunday.”

Vikas hesitated. “It’s difficult, she won’t.”

“Then ask her Saturday evening,” Bharat suggested.

“Koushik will ask,” Vikas declared, pushing the responsibility.

Koushik’s eyes widened in alarm. “Go to hell! You’re going to get me into trouble.”

“What if she scolds me if I ask?” Vikas fretted.

Bharat chuckled. “You said you have a group, right? Both of you ask in that. But if any problem arises, you two are done for. Haha…”


A little while later, Vinod, from the fourth bench, rose and headed to the toilet. Two minutes later, Bharat followed. As he entered, he saw Vinod inhaling from something. The acrid smell hit him, and he realized Vinod was smoking ganja (marijuana).

Shocked, Bharat immediately lunged forward, pushing Vinod’s hand, knocking the joint from his mouth and sending it skittering across the floor. Vinod’s face contorted in anger. He retaliated, shoving Bharat.

“You cheap bastard, what happens to you if I smoke?” Vinod snarled.

“You’ll die, you idiot, if you smoke that!” Bharat retorted, his voice rising. “Why are you scolding me, man? Wait, I’ll tell the teacher!”

Before he could finish, a hand grabbed Bharat’s arm from behind, pulling him off balance, and he stumbled to the ground.

“Shut up, piss yourself, don’t act too smart,” Vinod sneered, towering over him.

Enraged by being pushed down, Bharat scrambled to his feet. “You’ve gotten too big for your britches!”

He lunged, try swinging a punch at Vinod’s face. Vinod sidestepped, and Bharat’s hand slammed into the tiled wall of the toilet section. There was a sickening crack, and a section of the wall crumbled, tiles splintering and falling to the floor.

Vinod’s anger momentarily vanished, replaced by a cunning glint in his eye. “Go ahead, now if they know you broke this, you’ll be in trouble too. Let’s go to class silently.”

In regular hours, 

The classroom hummed with the quiet expectation of a new day as Geetha stepped inside. From the last bench, Bharat rose with the rest of his classmates, their collective "Good Morning" a soft ripple in the air before they settled back into their seats. His gaze, however, remained fixed on Geetha, specifically on the stack of pre-final exam Maths papers clutched in her hand. A cold wave of dread washed over him. His mind reeled with anxieties: his potential marks, Geetha's inevitable reaction to a low score, and the dreaded conversation with his parents that evening.

One by one, Geetha called out names, distributing the papers. The familiar script of such moments played out: praise for the high scorers, a torrent of reprimands for those who fell short, and for the truly abysmal, perhaps even a physical chastisement. Geetha had held particular expectations for Bharat. As his Maths teacher, she'd envisioned him scoring above forty, yet his paper, now in her hand, revealed a disappointing thirty-four. She took a moment, her eyes sweeping over him from head to toe.

Bharat, already trembling from the weight of her gaze, felt a fresh surge of anxiety. He hadn't even seen his score, but the intensity of her look suggested it was dismal. He shuffled forward, apprehension tightening his chest.

"Thirty-four. Go study," Geetha said, her voice devoid of warmth as she handed him the paper, dismissing him with a curt gesture.

Silently, Bharat took the paper and retreated to his seat. After distributing the remaining papers, Geetha rose, a palpable annoyance radiating from her. "Those who scored less than thirty-five marks, once; those who scored less than thirty marks, twice; you must do the problems from the exam as homework." She settled back into the chair behind her desk. "I'll be right here. Those who want to write, write. Those who want to practice, practice. There's less than a month left for exams. Don't waste even a minute of your time from today, study silently, not like small children."

A while later, Anil appeared at the classroom door. "Excuse me, Madam," he asked, his voice edged with anger. Geetha moved aside, allowing him to enter. He strode to the front, stopping before the whiteboard, with Sambashiva, the cleaning staff member, standing beside him. 

Bharat and Vinod subtly shifted in their seats at the sight of them.

Anil's voice boomed, cutting through the classroom's quiet. "Who broke the tiles in the boys' toilets during morning classes? Tell me!"

A chorus of "I don't know" echoed as students shook their heads. 

Bharat and Vinod, however, remained still. 

Both Geetha and Anil noticed their lack of movement. As their gazes narrowed on him, a fresh wave of fear washed over Bharat. Under the threatening stares, he confessed. "It was me, sir."

"Come here!" Anil commanded.

Bharat instantly obeyed, standing before Anil. Anil seized Bharat's collar, and a jolt of terror shot through Bharat.

"How did it break? Tell me."

"Well, well... Vinod and I had a fight..." Bharat stammered.

"What's this fight in the toilets, kids? Go outside and fight on the road, everyone will see!" Anil's sarcastic remark drew laughter from the class.

"Sir, it wasn't intentional," Bharat pleaded.

"You broke it, fine, but why didn't you come and tell us how it broke? Did you just think no one saw, so you'd get away with it? I tell you to study, and you're fighting!" Anil's voice rose with each question.

"Sir, it just hit accidentally," Bharat insisted.

"Shut up! Aren't you ashamed to fight in college? You're in tenth grade, not little kids anymore..." Anil's gaze then fell on Vinod. "...And you, Master, why are you looking like you have nothing to do with it? Why did you fight? Come and tell me."

Vinod, now visibly frightened, stepped forward.

"Tell me!" Anil roared.

"Well, sir..." Vinod began, but Bharat quickly interjected.

"Sir, Vinod was smoking a cigarette in the college toilet, and when I told him it was wrong, he pushed me down. I got angry and was about to hit him when it broke."

A stunned silence fell over the classroom. Anil's face contorted, his eyes turning a furious red. In an instant, the sharp crack of a slap echoed as Anil struck Vinod across the cheek.
"Cigarette? A cigarette in college? Do you think you're a rowdy? Exams are in a month, I tell you to study, and you're doing these things!" Anil's voice thundered. He grabbed Vinod and, without another word, dragged him out of the classroom, heading towards the principal's room.

The day passed with gossips of this incident.

When Bharat arrived at Geetha's home in evening, the soft glow of the television illuminated her face as she sat, engrossed in YouTube. She sipped hot chai, the steam curling around her, and was still dressed in the cloud-colored saree he'd noticed that morning.

Bharat shed his shoes at the door, stepping inside. He settled beside her, a quiet "Good evening" breaking the comfortable silence. 

Geetha, setting her half-empty teacup on the table, gestured for him to move closer. He obliged, the space between them shrinking.

"Why did you fight?" she asked, her voice calm but with an undercurrent of concern. "You could have just told Ramya Miss."

"He pushed me down when I said I'd tell Miss," Bharat explained, a touch of lingering indignation in his tone.

She gently pulled him nearer. "Do you know, lately everyone has a good opinion of you. You're getting into these kinds of things again. Wouldn't it be better to just ignore them?"

"I didn't do it on purpose, Miss," he insisted, looking down.

"Hmm," she hummed, a soft warning. "Don't get into fights."

"I don't pick fights with anyone, Miss."

A slight frown creased her brow. "I thought you'd score over forty marks today. You studied, didn't you? Why didn't you?"

"Miss, I couldn't do the set problems. You gave ten marks for that, and I didn't write it."

"But you practiced them?"

"Yes, I don't know, Miss, I couldn't do them." His voice held a note of genuine confusion.

"There's only one more month," she mused, a touch of worry entering her voice. "How will you manage if you still don't know many things? Are the other subjects the same?"

Bharat's face brightened with a cheerful smile, all traces of his earlier frustration gone. 

"You'll teach me again, Miss. Please do a revision and also put a test. If I get good marks in the test, a kiss..."

Geetha burst into laughter, a sound like wind chimes. Playfully, she tapped his cheek. "Stupid! I have to set the test, and I have to give the kiss? You're being too much."

Bharat chuckled, enjoying her amusement.

"That's enough," she said, though her eyes still twinkled. "Go study. Tomorrow you have to show me all the papers with the marks you got in all subjects, otherwise, don't come to tuition."

"I'll show them, I'm not afraid," he declared, puffing out his chest playfully.

Geetha winked. "Oh really... If you get low marks, you'll have to write all of them three times."

"Oh my god..." Bharat groaned, the prospect of such a task clearly daunting.

Five days later, evening descended, and Geeta found herself in a familiar predicament.

Her car was stuck near the college divider, caught behind a lorry and another college bus, both at a standstill. A heated discussion between the drivers ensued. She glanced at her wristwatch; it was already past four.

“It’s a farewell party, after all,” she mused, a hint of exasperation in her tone. “Why did they schedule it for the evening? Everyone will be dancing. It’ll probably be over by seven.”

Finally, the traffic eased. Geeta found an opening, carefully crossed the road, and turned into the college lane. 

She parked her car in front of the college building, got out, and adjusted her cloud-blue saree, the caramel-colored sleeveless blouse a perfect match. Her handbag swayed gently as she walked.




Bharat was already there, his eyes lighting up the moment he saw her. For days, he had maintained a facade of student-like deference, but now, his true feelings, like a playful puppy, were beginning to show.

As Geeta approached, Vandana and Ramya arrived, greeting her warmly. The three women walked into the college together. Bharat, meanwhile, lingered behind, awaiting Vikas.

A short distance away, near the bakery, Vikas and Harish were engrossed in conversation.

“What about the dances?” Vikas asked, a mischievous glint in his eye. “Will your dad make everyone dance?”

Harish shrugged. “I don’t know. But what’s there to it? Whoever feels like it, just jumps around.”

“Wouldn’t it be great,” Vikas continued, a speculative look on his face, “if they had practiced beforehand and made boys and girls dance as couples?”

“That too,” Harish chuckled, “especially if it’s like, you know, holding them and dancing.”

“Right, hahaha…” Vikas laughed, a knowing smirk spreading across his face.

“And did you hear?” Harish added, lowering his voice conspiratorially. “Everyone’s having dinner here too. They’ve ordered food.”

“Oh, really…” Vikas’s eyes widened in surprise.

Their conversation continued until they reached Bharat.

“How did our college even think of doing it so lavishly for us?” Bharat wondered aloud, a hint of awe in his voice.

“Yeah, true,” Vikas agreed.

The three boys popped a Center Fresh into their mouths and headed inside. In the college meeting hall, a stage had been set up, adorned with the decorations they had meticulously arranged the previous day. The girls settled into the front row chairs, while the boys took their seats in the back.

“Where’s Koushik?” Bharat muttered, scanning the room. His gaze landed on Koushik, who was with Ramya, connecting a wire to the mic.

Once the three friends were seated, Vikas leaned forward, his gaze sweeping across the girls in the front row. “Who’s the best-looking in our class? What do you say, Bharat?”

Bharat feigned disinterest. “I don’t know.”

“Anyway,” Vikas chuckled, nudging him, “you and Koushik don’t want girls, you want teachers…” He laughed, finding his own joke amusing.

Harish interjected, a reminder of their impending reality. “Hey, there are only twenty days left for exams.”

“Oh, then you should’ve bought a book today,” Bharat scoffed, “don’t be with us today.”

“Today is also study?” Vikas exclaimed, his voice incredulous. “We have to party, see the girls, have biryani, eat our fill!”

“Exactly,” Bharat concurred, a smile playing on his lips.

Just then, Koushik arrived, phone in hand, and settled next to Harish.

“Hey, it’s supposed to finish at seven,” Koushik said, a mischievous glint in his eyes.  “Should I book second-show tickets?”

“Exams are there,” Harish reminded him, a hint of disapproval in his tone. “Why about a movie?”

“What movie, man?” Vikas asked, intrigued.

“Second show…” Bharat hesitated, a frown creasing his brow. “My dad won’t let me go.”

“Dude, let’s study until the exams,” Koushik pleaded, his voice earnest. “Don’t you think I also want to get good marks? Let’s go to the movie just for today. This is the last time in our college days. Tell me, I’ll book tickets, and the money is mine, okay?”

Bharat looked unconvinced.

“What, you won’t come?” Koushik pressed.

“It’s hard,” Bharat replied, a hint of regret in his voice. “If you want, let’s go tomorrow first show, I’ll definitely come.”

“Come on, dude,” Vikas chimed in, trying to persuade him. “If you want, I’ll come to your house and get permission from your dad.”

“We’ll see,” Bharat mumbled, still hesitant.

“Hey, he’s agreed, Harish, you?” Koushik declared, taking Bharat’s noncommittal answer as a yes.

“Let’s ask Vandana, Chandana, Lavanya to come too, what do you say?” Harish suggested, a new idea forming.

“It’ll be hard for them to come for the second show,” Bharat pointed out, ever practical.

Just then, an idea struck Koushik. He pulled a chair and placed it in front of the three of them.

“I have an idea,” Koushik began, a triumphant smile spreading across his face. “If they are to come, two more need to come.”

“Who?” Harish asked, leaning forward, intrigued.

“Listen carefully…” Koushik said, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. “Harish, do you have money for four more tickets?”

“Yes,” Harish confirmed, a bewildered expression on his face.

“Okay, then let’s ask Geeta Miss and Ramya Miss to come too.”

Bharat’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Hey, why them? Not only will they not come, they’ll scold us badly.”

“No, nothing will happen,” Koushik insisted, waving his hand dismissively. “Hey Bharat, you and Vandana go and gently convince Geeta Miss, we’ll request Ramya Miss. If they don’t come, then it’s fine, we’ll just go ourselves, no girls. Okay?”

“Settled!” Vikas exclaimed, already envisioning the movie night.

Bharat and Harish headed towards Vandana. Vandana and Chandana, sisters, stood before them. One was in a vibrant yellow half saree, the other in a graceful yellow lehenga. 

As Bharat and Harish approached, the two girls playfully challenged them.

“Guess which one of us is Vandana?” they chorused.

As Harish opened his mouth to speak, Bharat placed a hand on his shoulder, stopping him. He whispered, his breath barely audible, “Wait, if we guess correctly, let’s make them agree to come to the movie as what we ask.” 

The two girls looked on curiously, wondering what he meant.

“If I guess correctly,” Bharat stated, a twinkle in his eye, “we’ll ask you to do something.”

The girl in the lehenga readily agreed. “Yeah, okay…”

“This silly one agrees first, I know,” Bharat thought to himself.

“You…” he said, pointing to the girl in the sphalf saree.

“Yes,” she confirmed.

“The one wearing the lehenga is Chandana.”

Suddenly, Chandana kicked her legs up in surprise. “How did you recognize me?”

Bharat chuckled, a sarcastic smile gracing his lips. “You can’t control yourself, you react first, that’s all… hahaha…”

Chandana pouted, a blush creeping up her cheeks. She stole a shy glance at Bharat. He noticed it and subtly turned his face away.

“Vandana,” Harish began, getting straight to the point, “we are planning to go to a movie, for the second show, and we thought we’d ask if you would come too.”

“How can we come?” Vandana protested, her voice firm. “No way.”

“Now that I’ve won, you have to come,” Bharat asserted, reminding her of their earlier agreement.

“No way,” Vandana insisted. “Second show, and that too with boys, no.”

“What if teachers come with us?” Harish proposed, sensing an opportunity.

“Who would come?” Chandana asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.

“Geeta and Ramya,” Harish revealed.

“Why would they come with us?” Chandana wondered, still skeptical.

“Listen,” Harish explained, “the four of us, Koushik, Vikas, Geeta Miss, Ramya Miss, okay?”

“Not Koushik,” Chandana interjected, her nose crinkling. “He acts crazy.”

“No, nothing will happen,” Bharat reassured her. “He’s the one who suggested this. Chandana, you come with me, let’s both ask Geeta Miss, and they will ask Ramya Miss.”

They didn’t got chance to ask immediately so settled in chairs again.

 Bharat’s gaze kept drifting towards Geeta, intermittently. Geeta, aware of his attention, subtly pretended not to notice. He was searching for just one chance, one opportune moment to speak with her.

The farewell festivities began. Teachers, the principal, tenth-grade, and ninth-grade students all gathered on stage, exchanging heartfelt farewell wishes. Some presented gifts. The tenth graders took to the stage, their energetic dances captivating the audience, while the others watched, clapping along.

All those who planned to go to the movie sat together, a small, conspiratorial huddle. 

Bharat found himself sandwiched between Chandana and Harish, a restless energy stirring within him. Geeta was seated among the other teachers, a short distance away. Koushik, ever the tech-savvy one, was video recording the events on his phone, occasionally showing the footage to Vikas.

Bharat chewed on the Center Fresh in his mouth, the sweetness doing little to quell his restlessness. He slipped out of the hall to spit it out. As he stepped outside, he leaned over the railing, spitting into the backyard below. When he turned back, Chandana was standing close.

Her cheeks gleaming with subtle fondness.

“What?” Bharat asked, surprised to see her.

“Does the dress look good?” she asked, a hint of nervousness in her voice.

He looked her up and down, a quick assessment. 

Her yellow lehenga accentuating her beauty, little exposure of her slim waist catching Bharath’s attention.  “Yeah, it’s good.”

“What happened?” Chandana probed, noticing his pensive expression. “You seem to be thinking about something?”

“Nothing,” he replied, a little too quickly.

“What do you plan to do next?” she asked, changing the subject.

“We were going to the movie, right?” he said, a faint smile on his lips.

They both leaned against the side wall, the sounds of the party drifting faintly from the hall.

“Not that ra,” Chandana clarified, her voice soft. “What will you do after tenth grade?”

“I’ll do BIPC…”

“Will you become a doctor?” she asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.

“No, a physical anthropologist,” he corrected her.

“Meaning?”

“Google it,” he teased, a playful glint in his eyes.

She playfully pinched him. “You don’t talk properly to me. Shall we go out? I have my scoots.”

“No, nothing,” he said, avoiding her gaze.

“Okay…” she said, turning to leave. But before she could, he gently took her hand, stopping her. A wave of happiness washed over her as Bharat held her.

“Stay,” he said, his voice unexpectedly soft. “I’m bored.”

“Are you studying?” she asked, a hint of surprise in her voice.

“Yes…”

“Are you going to any tuition? You’re suddenly getting good marks.”

“Nothing…” he mumbled, looking away, a touch shy.

“I’m also thinking of doing BIPC,” Chandana confessed. “Shall we go to the same college?”

“What do you plan to do?” he asked, genuinely curious.

“Something, I haven’t thought of anything like you have,” she admitted.

She took out a bracelet from her purse, gently took Bharat’s right hand, and placed it on his wrist.

“This is for you,” she said, her eyes twinkling.

“Why for me?”

“Don’t ask why when someone gives you a gift,” she chastised playfully. “I came here to give you this.”

Bharat laughed, and with his fingers, he gently pinched Chandana’s small waist, visible in her lehenga.

“Ouch…” she exclaimed, a surprised gasp escaping her lips. “Why are you pinching me?”

“You pinched me, didn’t you?” he retorted.

“Don’t you have a phone?”

“No, I use my mom’s phone.”

“Okay, I’ll leave,” she said, a shy smile on her face.

He grabbed her hand again, pulling her close. He led her down the stairs hurriedly and to the left, away from prying eyes. It wouldn’t look good if anyone saw them there. They stopped next to the seventh-grade classroom.

“Do you remember when we all danced in sixth grade?” Bharat asked, a nostalgic smile on his face.

“Yeah… we were a pair,” Chandana replied, her eyes sparkling with remembrance.

“Shall we do it now?” he asked.

“No…” she said, her voice soft. “Then it was different, now it’s different.”

“Why, we were classmates even then, right?”

Chandana placed both her hands on his shoulders, smiling and looking straight into his eyes. “Now we’re not classmates.”

“Then what?” he whispered, his voice barely audible.

He leaned her against the wall, his right hand gently stroking her left waist, pulling her closer, holding her.

“Take your hand off,” she murmured, her voice a whisper.

“Tell me what then?” he insisted, his gaze fixed on hers.

She looked down, a blush deepening on her cheeks, a slight tremble in her body.

“Uh-huh…” she shook her head adorably.

“Chandu,” Bharat said, a newfound seriousness in his voice, “message me on Instagram. I’ll buy a phone in summer and give you my number, okay?”

“Hmm,” she mumbled, her eyes still downcast.

“From now on, we’re close friends,” he declared.

“No,” she corrected him, her voice barely audible, “you’re my boyfriend.”

Unable to contain her shyness any longer, she pushed Bharat back, broke free from his embrace, and hurried away. Bharat watched her go, a small smile playing on his lips. He then walked back upstairs. Looking towards the stage, he saw Geeta and Chandana talking.

He went and sat next to Koushik, his gaze fixed directly on Geeta. He was still hoping for that one chance, one opportunity to meet her.


As Chandana blushed, catching Bharat’s eye, Geeta also noticed the interaction and turned her face away. For the first time, Bharat’s gaze involuntarily shifted from Geeta to Chandana. Just then, Chandana came and sat next to him.

“I asked Geeta Miss,” Chandana reported, a hint of disappointment in her voice. “She says no. In fact, she says we shouldn’t come either.”

“Bharat already said this would happen,” Vikas chimed in, a knowing look on his face.

Bharat turned his neck, looking towards the stage. Geeta was talking on the phone and heading downstairs. Slowly, as they continued talking, he managed to slip away from the group and also descended the stairs. Looking to his right, he saw Geeta entering the eighth-grade classroom.

She had wrapped her saree pallu around her and was leaning against a bench, deep in conversation.

“Yes, sir,” Geeta said into the phone, her voice a little strained. “I can’t hear anything because of the music upstairs, so I came down.”

“I just called,” Gautam’s voice came through the phone. “How is it going?”

“What’s there?” Geeta replied, a hint of exasperation in her voice. “Nothing much, they’re dancing, and after that, the tenth graders and teachers will eat, and the principal said everything should be over before seven.”

“So, I shouldn’t call then?” Gautam asked, a note of understanding in his voice.

“Yes, I’ll call you myself when I go home,” Geeta promised.

Seeing Geeta end the call, Bharat stepped inside the classroom. Geeta looked a little suspicious, seeing him there.

“What happened, Bharat?” she asked, her brow furrowed. “Why did you come downstairs?”

He immediately came and stood in front of her, his eyes fixed on hers, an eager intensity in his gaze.

“Miss,” he began, his voice barely above a whisper, “thanks.”

“For what?” she asked, a puzzled expression on her face.

“For wearing this saree,” he said, a playful smile on his lips. “You look very hot in sleeveless…” As he smiled mischievously, Geeta softened a little, a pleased smile gracing her lips.

Bharat took another step forward, closing the distance between them. Geeta looked into his eyes, a little nervously, and asked in a low voice, “What is it?”

Bharat raised his hands and placed them gently on her shoulders. She flinched slightly.

“Bharat,” Geeta whispered, her voice laced with urgency, “someone might see us, we are in college, move.”

Moving his fingers, he felt the soft, cotton-like muscles under the strap of her blouse on her shoulder, and he squeezed them gently. Geeta felt a slight twist in her shoulders.

“Bharat,” she repeated, her voice more insistent now, “someone will see, we are in college, move.”

Bharat leaned in, his head finding rest on her, and he nuzzled her neck just below her ear. Geetha’s hands pressed against his chest, a futile attempt to push him away, but he opened his lips and bit her neck. A wave of heat surged through her.

“Mmmmmm… No, don’t,” Geeta murmured.

He firmly massaged her soft hands, intertwining his fingers with hers, and then began to pepper the right side of her neck with kisses.

“Miss, you’re so beautiful,” Bharat whispered, his voice thick. “It’s hard to stop myself when I see you. Your perfume is wonderful, just for a little while, please.”

“No, don’t, listen to me.”

He straightened up, bringing his face close to hers, and his gaze met hers, intoxicatingly deep. Geeta, equally captivated, stumbled slightly, her eyes locking with his.

“Miss, everyone’s upstairs, no one will come,” he assured her.

His right hand found her cheek, his thumb lightly tracing her upper lip. Geeta’s eyes fluttered shut, a passionate surrender, and she felt a dizzying lightness.

Upstairs, the strains of music drifted down, a stark contrast to the absolute quiet of the downstairs room. No lights were on, only the soft glow from the veranda outside pierced the darkness. Without a fan, a single bead of sweat traced a path down Geeta’s forehead.

He took a deep, hot breath and kissed her chin, then moved lower, kissing her neck below it. Geeta exhaled softly. “Ah…”

His right hand moved down, squeezing her waist.

“Iss…”

Unable to bear the intensity, Geeta gripped the edge of the bench with one hand, while her right hand found purchase on Bharat’s neck. He kissed the edge of her saree pallu on her shoulder, then shifted to her right, his lips finding her armpit, beneath her raised hand. The fragrance instantly filled his nostrils, consuming him.

“Ah… Miss…” Bharat groaned.

“That’s enough, Bharat. You’ll listen to me, right? Let go.”

Ignoring her plea, he moved closer, burying his nose in her armpit. There was no saree, no blouse to block him; as he rubbed his nose into the delicate fold, her whole body swayed.
“Ah, no, don’t.”

“Ha… I’m going crazy, Miss, when I smell you. Miss, please, lift your hand.”

Immediately, Geeta pulled Bharat’s head up. Her hands framed his face, and she kissed him on the cheek.

“No, don’t.”

“Your lips have lipstick, that’s why I stopped, Miss. Ever since I saw you today, I’ve wanted to kiss you.”

“Okay, we’ll see about that. Go upstairs now.”

He hugged Geeta tightly. Kissing her right shoulder, he asked, “Miss, did you say you wouldn’t come to the movie?”

The auditorium buzzed with the lingering echoes of a day filled with camaraderie. Tenth-grade students and their teachers gathered on stage for a souvenir photograph, a snapshot in time. The girls, a colorful array, sat cross-legged in the front, while two rows of boys stood tall behind them. Nestled in the center, between their pupils, sat Geetha, the class teacher, and the principal, their smiles reflecting the collective joy. With the click of the camera, the formal proceedings concluded.

Soon after, a shared lunch brought everyone together in a more relaxed setting. As plates were cleared and conversations wound down, Bharath found himself with his friends. He recounted Geetha's words, the news hanging in the air with an almost palpable excitement.

"Is it the first show tomorrow?" Vikas piped up, his voice laced with anticipation.

"For sure?" Koushik pressed, needing absolute confirmation.

Bharath nodded, a slight grin touching his lips. "Yes, she told me herself. We'll all go together after college. What do you say?"

Harish's gaze drifted to Vandana and Lavanya. They offered subtle nods, a silent agreement passing between them.

"Hey, don't ditch us at the last minute!" Koushik exclaimed, a playful warning in his tone. 

"Lavanya, you ask Ramya Miss again."

"Definitely," Lavanya promised, her resolve clear.

"Hey, I've created a group on Instagram," Vikas announced, already thinking ahead. 

"Decide something tonight. We'll talk to the teachers during lunch tomorrow, okay?"

"Okay," Bharath affirmed.

"Done, guys," Harish chimed in, a sense of finality to his words.

With plans set, the seven friends dispersed. As they got out from the college building, Geetha arrived, getting into her car. Koushik and Vikas waved their goodbyes to her before heading off together. Harish, ever the diligent friend, ducked back inside, searching for his father.

Lavanya retrieved her bicycle, exchanged farewells with Vandana, and pedaled away.

A scooty whizzed by, carrying two sisters. Chandana, perched on the back, extended her hand to Bharath. "Bye, keep messaging online!" she called out, and then they were gone, disappearing down the street.

Bharath pulled out his bicycle. A new dilemma presented itself: he needed to go home, but then he also had to return to Geetha's. The thought of finding an excuse for his family already weighed on his mind.
