A small nod. “It’s the only thing I know how to make consistently.”
He smiled. “No complaints here.”
There was a pause.
Not uncomfortable, but unsure.
She took a sip. Then, finally:
“You haven’t said much today.”
Ravi shrugged. “Was just… tired.”
“Or quiet because of that day in the Auto?” Her voice wasn’t accusing, just searching.
He looked at her.
Really looked.
Her eyes were clear today.
Not angry.
But not entirely trusting either.
“I’m sorry,” he said, finally.
His voice was low, almost hoarse.
“For that moment. For crossing a line I shouldn’t have.”
She didn’t speak for a few seconds.
Then, placing her tumbler down on the wrought iron table, she turned toward him slightly.
“You know,” she said, “I’ve been thinking about that day. Not just what happened, but… how I felt about it.”
His eyes met hers.
