They rested on a stone platform, finding respite in the shade of a nearby mothuka tree.
Geetha sat to Bharath’s right, her knees drawn up, hands clasped behind her head, eyes closed. Bharath, captivated, watched her lips.
“Miss, is the food okay?” he asked.
“It’s a hotel, anyway it’s fine,” Geetha replied, her eyes still shut.
“Miss, do you know about Ramya teacher and Ganesh sir’s affair?”
Geetha’s eyes flickered open, a flicker of surprise in their depths. “Hmm…”
“Miss, you saw me that day,” he continued, a note of earnestness in his voice. “I didn’t come on purpose; I came with Koushik. I really didn’t know before, Miss.”
“It’s okay, let it go,” she murmured.
Bharath edged closer, resting his face beneath Geetha’s hand. “Miss, did you think I was a bad boy?”
Geetha offered a small smile. “You’re not a bad boy, you’re a naughty boy…”
Somewhat hesitantly, Bharath’s hand found its way to Geetha’s waist. A silent acknowledgment passed between them; she liked his touch, and she wouldn’t object. He moved higher, resting his head on her right hand. Leaning close to her ear, he exhaled a soft, intoxicated “Uff,” and she stirred, a light laugh escaping her lips.
“Miss, how did it feel to be without clothes like that?”
Her face flushed with shyness, and she turned away, hiding her expression to the left. “Bharath, don’t ask me all that.”
“Tell me, Miss, did it feel like a new feeling?” he pressed.
“Uh…”
He gently held her chin, turning her face back towards him. Her eyes remained closed. “Miss, how is it today? Do you like this place?”
She opened her eyes, met his gaze, and nodded with a warm smile. “Miss, let’s come again sometime after Goutham comes.”
“Ha…”
“Miss, do you really like it, or are you just saying it for my sake because I’m asking?”
She took her left hand from beneath her head and placed it on Bharath’s right cheek. “No, it’s not like that, I really liked it. Okay?”
“Uh…”
“Shall we go now? We still have to go home, it’s getting late, it’s already past one o’clock.”
“Miss, let’s stay a little longer.”
“What else will you do staying here?”
“Just for a bit.”
“Miss, what did you pray yesterday?” Bharath asked, changing the subject.
“Ah!… When will my Goutham come back from Canada? How will these two more years pass, I wonder.”
“Why like that, Miss?”
A hint of delight touched Geetha’s features. Bharath noticed, a slight smile playing on his lips. “Tell me, Miss?”
“You tell me what it is?” she countered playfully.
Bharath chuckled at her unexpected delight. “Why are you laughing, boy?” she asked, a mock-stern tone in her voice.
“Miss, it’s not me, you’re the really naughty one.”
“Naughty fellow, it’s not like that, dear.”
“Then what is it, Miss?”
“What after marriage?”
“First night.”
She playfully hit Bharath’s face, a mischievous smile gracing her lips. “Tch, naughty fellow, not that, children I mean…” Her face flushed with shyness, and she turned away.
“Oh yes, I forgot, yes Miss, why don’t you have children yet?”
“Well, he’s in abroad, right? After he comes back.”
“Oh ho…”
“Okay, then what did you wish for?”
“Miss, you shouldn’t scold me too much.”
“Tell me first.”
“I told you in the car yesterday, right? I want a girlfriend like you, ha ha ha…” He couldn’t stop laughing as he said that, pulling away from her.
Geetha, though shy, feigned anger and pinched him again. “Come here…”
“Oh no, I won’t come, you’ll hit me.”
“Hey, I won’t say anything, come.”
He slowly returned to her side, and Geetha moved a little closer. Bharath buried his face under her neck, inhaling the sweet fragrance of her presence.
“Didn’t you wish to study?” she asked.
“Uh-uh… Studying, if I study, it will come, Miss, but a girlfriend like you won’t come, right?”He laughed again.
She playfully hit him on the head. “Ah… You said you wouldn’t hit me.”
“Let’s go now.”
“Miss, you smell good.”
“I know, the puppy says the same thing.”

“Miss, you said you made snacks, what did you make?” Bharath asked.
“I made biscuits.”
Bharath got up, retrieved the bag, and opened the packet. Inside were small, homemade biscuits. He took two and munched on them. They were slightly sweet and crunchy. “What kind of biscuits are these, Miss? How did you make them?”
“I made them with wheat flour, my mother taught me. Are they good?”
“They’re very good. Here, you take some.”
They shared a few biscuits before beginning their descent.
“Bharath, you should take another bath when you get home, okay? No matter how the water was, it’s better to take a bath when you get home, because these days you don’t even know where some diseases are coming from.”
“Yes, Miss, after Corona, this fear has increased.”
“Hmm… Yes.”
“Miss, was your marriage before or after the lockdown?”

Geetha looked up at the clouds.
With a small smile, his gaze fixed on the water, Bharath said, “Miss, if you got married before the lockdown, since you and sir were living together, you would have had children by now, right?”
“Hmm, yes…” She was suddenly stunned.
Bharath chuckled. With a playful pout, she pinched his shoulder with feigned anger. “Ash… Ha ha ha…”
“You have no manners, why do you blurt out whatever comes to your mind, you little thief, why are you interested in adult talk?”
“Oops, sorry Miss, I just felt like saying it.”
“Eat now, let’s go. I’ll tell your mother that you’re talking like this already.”
“Oh no, don’t, Miss. I won’t say anything else.”
After a few minutes, they resumed their slow descent, stopping occasionally to finish the biscuits. Geetha suddenly halted. “Stop, Bharath, for a few minutes…” she panted, her breath coming in short gasps.
She sat on a nearby rock, Bharath joining her. She took a long drink of water. “Oh, I didn’t feel it in the morning cold. Now it feels more.”
“Ha… It’s nothing, we’ve already covered more than half the distance, haven’t we, Miss? Just a little more.”
“Hmm… Let’s sit for a bit.”
They rested until Geetha felt better, then rose and continued walking. Bharath walked a little behind her, his gaze lingering on Geetha’s buttocks.
“My legs might ache when I get home,” she remarked.

She playfully swatted his hand behind her back. “Naughty fellow, that’s enough, forget what happened this morning.”
He moved closer, his face near her shoulder. “What happened this morning, Miss?”

“Tell me, Miss, what happened?”
Geetha looked forward, a blush creeping up her neck, and laughed. “Go away, all your mischief.”
“What is mischief, Miss?”
“Will you stop now?”
“Oh, tell me, Miss, what is mischief? I don’t know.”
She stopped walking. Bharath turned towards her, laughing. Staring intently at Geetha’s lips, he repeated, “Tell me, Miss.”
“What you did this morning.” She pouted and swayed her hips as she walked away.
Bharath laughed and followed her.
Upon reaching the car, they placed their bags inside and drove to Subhash’s house. There, they met Bharath’s aunt and cousin sister, spending over an hour as his aunt offered them tea. Finally, they departed for home at 5:30 PM.

The twilight deepened, and a cool breeze swept through the quiet street as Vimala sat in front her house, her hands busy oiling Jatin's hair.
Across the way, a car slowed to a halt in front of Geeta's house. Bharat got out, opening the gate, and Geeta skillfully maneuvered the car into the driveway. As the headlights dimmed, Vimala, her curiosity piqued, approached the compound wall, a figure in the dimming light.
“Hey Bharat, where did you go?” Vimala’s voice cut through the stillness. “It’s past eight. Where did Geeta meet you?”
Geeta, adjusting her dupatta around her neck, felt a familiar wave of anxiety. What barrage of questions would Vimala unleash now? She opened the car door and stepped out, only to be met by Vimala’s wide, grinning welcome.
“We went to our village for Shivaratri, my family and Geetha miss, met my relatives,,” Bharat rattled off, a mischievous twinkle in his eye. “Miss said she had some work at her house, so I came this far. Hehe.”
Geeta was stunned. Bharat’s quick wit and seamless lie left her speechless.
“Yes, Akka, it was very good there,” Geeta managed to stammer, playing along. “We even trekked up a hill. It felt really nice.”
“Oh... so it was a good day then,” Vimala mused, her smile unwavering.
“Yeah…” Geeta offered, a sigh of relief escaping her as she turned to unlock her house. Once inside, she called out, “Bharat, take that bag and put it on the table inside.”
Bharat, with a small, triumphant smile, slipped away from Vimala’s inquisitive gaze. He retrieved the bags from the car and carried them inside.
“Take both our clothes and put them in the washing machine,” Geeta instructed.
“Why mine, Miss?” Bharat asked, surprised.
“Just put them,” Geeta replied, her tone firm but gentle. “Why should your mother wash them again when you go home? Eat here and then leave; that’s why I bought some eggs in the middle. They’ll also get dry by the time you eat.”
Bharat nodded silently, beginning to empty the bags, setting one aside. As his fingers brushed against a certain cover within, Geeta’s hand shot out, snatching it away. Bharat stared, bewildered by her sudden action.
“What happened, Miss?” he asked.
“Nothing. Go put those in the machine. I’ll come and turn it on.”
Bharat, still puzzled, carried the clothes away. Geeta, a blush creeping up her neck, clutched the cover, her eyes following Bharat until he was out of sight, past the bedroom.
Bharat deposited the clothes in the machine, washed his hands at the basin, and settled onto the sofa. Meanwhile, Geeta, having added her hidden items to the wash, called out, “Bharat, come here?”
He appeared at the wall, a questioning look on his face. “What is it, Miss?”
“You have another dress, right?”
“Yes, it’s in the bag.”
“Okay, take this off too, put it in there, and go take a bath.”
“Okay, Miss…” he murmured, heading into the hall, retrieving a towel and a fresh set of clothes from his bag.
As he was about to enter the bedroom, Geeta’s voice stopped him. “Take it off and give it to me before you go.”
“Miss, I’ll take it off and bring it,” he demurred.
“Take it off here and go. You did in the morning, why are you shy now?”
Bharat, began to unbutton his shirt and slide down his pants. He handed them to Geeta.
Wanting to prolong the tease, he started to pull down his underwear when Geeta’s nervous yell, “Hey, stupid!” stopped him short. He chuckled.
“You told me to take it off here and give it to you, didn’t you?” he challenged playfully.
“So you’d take that off too, shameless boy? Go to the bathroom…” she retorted, her voice a mix of exasperation and amusement.
He laughed, wrapped the towel around himself, and disappeared into the bathroom.
Inside, the warm spray of the shower enveloped him, a luxurious sensation he rarely experienced. He felt refreshed, elated. He washed his underwear, then emerged, towel-clad, holding his underwear, and found Geeta sitting in the hall.
“Miss, where should I dry this?” he asked, holding up his damp underwear.
Geeta, exasperated, clutched her head. “There are hangers outside, go. Why are you coming to me holding that, stupid?”
He hung it outside and returned to the bedroom, slipping on shorts and a t-shirt. As he re-entered the hall, Geeta’s gaze immediately landed on him.
“Didn’t I tell you not to come here wearing shorts? This isn’t your house.”
“Miss, you told me to change my clothes, and this is all I have. So I wore it. Now you’re scolding me,” he said, his face falling into a sulk as he sat beside her.
“I’m not scolding you. I told you that day, and you’re making me repeat it, that’s all.”
“This is the last time, okay?” he promised.
He thought, She’s saying this just for shorts. If I tell her I’m not wearing underwear inside, she’ll just sit there silently. What can I do?
“Okay, I’ll also put the clothes to dry, take a bath, and come cook. You sit quietly and watch TV. If anyone comes, tell them,” Geeta instructed.
He nodded, his eyes fixed on her. Geeta gathered the wet clothes from the washing machine, hung them outside, then went into the bedroom. She emerged later, refreshed, a sky-blue cotton saree dbangd elegantly, her hair pulled into a neat bun, and headed for the kitchen.
Bharat called his home, informing them he’d be eating at Geeta’s. Moments later, Gautam’s video call interrupted his thoughts.
“Hello, sir, how are you?” Bharat greeted him.
“Oh, Bharat, why did you pick up? Haven’t you gone home yet?” Gautam asked.
“Teachers phone has been with me since morning. Miss asked me to have dinner here, that’s why.”
“Oh, what special is Madam making then?” Gautam chuckled.
“Eggs.”
“Wow, she’s making you stay as if she’s cooking biryani. Give the phone to her.”
Bharat walked to the kitchen, handing the phone to Geeta, who was busy chopping onions. She took the phone, her hand still holding the knife.
“Did you eat?” she asked Gautam.
“Not yet. Why does Madam look so fresh?”
“I took a bath after I came earlier. I was about to call you after cooking, but you called in the meantime.”
As Geeta spoke, Bharat reached for an onion and the knife, intending to help. Geeta gently held his hand, stopping him. “I’ll cut them. You go sit there…” she said, and he reluctantly left.
“What did you see? What did you do there?” Gautam’s voice came through the phone.
“Yes, it was very good, but climbing was a bit difficult, a bit far,” Geeta replied, her focus on the onions. Suddenly, switched video call to audio, and continued her conversation with the phone pressed to her ear, deftly chopping onions and chilies.
From the hall, Bharat, engrossed in the television, found his gaze repeatedly drawn to the kitchen, though Geetha remained out of sight. His earlier plan to stay close to her while she prepared dinner hadn't materialized.
"That's it," Geetha was saying into the phone, "we drank tea at her aunt's house and returned."
"So he saw you in that dress," Gautam’s voice crackled through the receiver. "Did he say anything?"
"He kissed me."
"What, again?" Gautam’s shock was evident.
"What is it with you, dear?" Geetha’s voice held a note of exasperation. "You know how uncomfortable and embarrassed I felt being like that in front of him."
"Hey, tell me," Gautam pressed, "did he really kiss you?"
"No, I was just kidding."
"Oh, okay," Gautam said, a sigh of relief in his voice. "Geetha, I also want to see you like that."
Geetha chuckled. "Oh, you will. You'll see and do things too."
"Hmm…" Gautam paused. "By the way, it's past nine. When will you eat, and when will Bharat go home?"
"Yeah, that's why I'm cooking fast. It might be ten by the time we eat. How will he go tonight? Should I tell him to sleep here and leave tomorrow morning?"
"Yes, tell him to sleep here," Gautam said without hesitation. "What's the point of him walking home so late at night?"
A pang of discomfort shot through Geetha. Gautam didn’t know what Bharat had done that morning. "No, it's not that. Why would he stay with me?"
"It's nothing. Tell him to stay here tonight. If something happens to him walking so late, it'll be a problem for us too."
"Hmm… I'll see."
"Call him, I'll ask him to stay."
"I'll tell him, dear. I'll call after eating, okay? Hmm." Geetha ended the call, set out plates, and filled a water bottle. The rice was already done. She began the curry, and once the tempering was complete, she cracked the eggs, stirred them in, and put on the lid.
"Bharat, come and take these plates and the bottle," Geetha called out.
Bharat appeared, taking the two plates and the bottle. He placed them on the dining table, then returned, switched off the rice cooker, and, using a cloth, carried the hot pot to the table.
"Miss, is it ready? I'm hungry," Bharat said.
"Me too, dear," Geetha replied. "The curry needs to cook a little more. Wait five minutes. Go sit. I'll bring it."
"Miss, I wouldn’t take a bath, even though you asked me to," Bharat began. "Because of me, you were late taking a bath. When should I go home?"
"It's okay. Stay a little longer. Eat and then leave."
A few minutes later, they were both eating and talking. Geetha couldn’t shake Gautam’s words. She found herself silently debating why she was so against Bharat staying, her thoughts circling back to the morning's events. Bharat isn't a small child, he'll manage to go home somehow, right?
Just then, Geetha’s phone rang. It was Bharat’s mother.
"Hello…" Geetha answered.
"What happened? He hasn't come yet," Sushila said.
"The cooking got delayed."
"Is that so? Okay."
“What he said also seems okay. It'll be fine if Bharat leaves in the morning.” Geetha’s internal monologue shifted.
"Well… Bharat will sleep here, and he'll come tomorrow morning. I don't want to send him so late at night."
"Oh, why?" Sushila sounded surprised. "He'll come, it's nothing."
"I don't know, we were out and about today."
"Alright, it's your wish, dear," Sushila conceded.
After the call, Geetha turned to Bharat. "You stay here tonight and leave in the morning. I told your mother too, and she said it's fine."
Bharat was taken aback. What, so suddenly? he thought. "But Miss, why? I'll go."
"No need. It's so late at night, and you've been out all day."
He didn't argue further. They finished eating. Geetha, eager to complete the chores, washed the plates. Bharat, however, was secretly thrilled at the prospect of sleeping next to his teacher again. Then he remembered Geetha had promised him another kiss after he went home in the morning. A flicker of fear ran through him—what would she say if he asked now?
Geetha finished her chores, washed her hands, and came to sit beside him. She picked up the TV remote and switched it off. Bharat looked at her.
"That's enough, go to sleep," she said softly. "Aren't you sleepy?"
He moved a little closer, resting his head on Geetha's shoulder. For some reason, I want what happened this morning to happen again. It's also cold in the house.
"Miss, tomorrow's a holiday too, so I want to watch a movie," Bharat said.
"No movies, nothing. You need to study. We went out today, and you said you'd study from tomorrow, right?"
"Not from tomorrow, from the day after tomorrow."
"Even so, you need to sleep. It's already late."
They both settled onto the bed, Bharat to Geetha’s right. A single large blanket covered them, a familiar comfort for Geetha, but for Bharat, it felt like a twist of fate, a stroke of luck that he was once again sleeping beside her.
Geetha waited, her thoughts lingering on Gautam's promised call. Beside her, Bharat was lost in the glow of her phone, chuckling at Instagram reels. Geetha, too, found herself drawn into the scrolling laughter. The clock ticked past eleven, but Gautam’s call never came. With a sigh, Geetha gently took her phone back from Bharat.
"Miss, I can't sleep. What happened?" Bharat murmured, his voice a soft query in the quiet room.
"It's not necessary. Just go to sleep. You'll drain the battery staring at it like that. I'm sleepy, and you should be too." Geetha replied, her voice gentle but firm.
Bharat turned his face towards her, and Geetha switched off the lights, plunging the room into near darkness. Only a sliver of streetlight filtered through the window, casting faint shadows. The blanket was pulled up to their waists, yet neither had closed their eyes.
"Miss…" Bharat whispered, breaking the silence.
"Hey, I told you to sleep, didn't I?" Geetha responded, a hint of impatience in her tone.
"Ugh, I really can't sleep, Miss."
"It's nothing, just close your eyes; it'll come." Geetha's heart gave a slight flutter of anxiety.
She knew, with an unsettling certainty, that at any moment he might draw closer, bury his face in her neck. And she knew, with equal certainty, that she wouldn’t be able to resist.
"Miss, currently you live alone, right? What do you do at night?" Bharat asked, his voice low and curious.
"What's there to do? After you leave, I'll eat, then I’ll see what to teach you tomorrow. If he calls, I'll talk to him; sometimes he doesn't call. I'll watch TV for a while, then sleep."
"And?"
"And what?"
"Don't you watch videos?" He chuckled, a hint of sarcasm in his voice. Geetha felt a blush creep up her neck, mixed with a surge of anger. She playfully swatted his shoulder.
"Stupid, I told you to forget that. If you say it again, I’ll kick you to home."
"Okay, okay, sorry, Miss."
"I thought you were innocent, but look how much you're talking and doing."
"What did I do, Miss?"
"You didn't do anything…" She playfully twisted his nose.
He moved closer. With only one blanket separating them, Bharat’s cold fingertips brushed against her elbow, sending a deeper chill through her body.
"Miss, when did you and Gautam sir have your first kiss?"
"Hey, why do you care? Go to sleep."
"Tell me, Miss, can't we talk about something?"
"Five days after our wedding."
"What? Miss, you didn't kiss on the first night?" Geetha was overcome with shyness at such a direct question. Unable to articulate her feelings, she simply dismissed his words.
"Didn't I tell you not to ask like that?"
"Why, Miss, are you shy?" he asked, laughing softly.
"Stop it."
"Really, when you get shy, you bite your lips, don't you? How beautiful you look then."
"Shut up."
"You're wondering how I know, right?"
"Yes."
"I saw you this morning, haha."
"Don't you sleep?"
"Miss, are you sleepy?"
"Yes, but I'm waiting for Gautam's call."
"Maybe sir won't call today, Miss."
"Maybe."
He gently placed his palm on Geetha's left cheek. An intoxicating warmth spread through her.
"Miss, I feel like talking. I want to smell you." As he spoke, he moved even closer, his knee brushing against Geetha’s leg.
Geetha herself couldn't understand why she liked it when Bharat said such things. A strange shift was happening within her, a realization that this was, perhaps, what she truly desired. He edged closer, his lips hovering just in front of hers. A spark ignited in both their eyes. Geetha felt herself falter. Her left hand rose, resting on Bharat's shoulder, her thumb tracing small circles.
"Sleep, Bharat, why aren't you sleepy today?"
"Miss, I want to smell you." Bharat’s breath, warm and tempting, ghosted over her. She gave a slight push to his shoulder. As he stroked her cheek with his finger, a tingling sensation spread through Geetha. She remained silent. Bharat removed his hand from her face and lay back, looking up, offering no further explanation. He took her right hand and brought it up. Geetha placed it behind her head. Bharat moved down, placing his face beneath her hand, burying his nose in her armpit. Geetha shivered.
"Miss, you smell so good."
"Don't talk. I don't understand how you like it at all."
"It's true, Miss, no matter how many times I tell you, you always say that." Drunk on her raw aroma, he rubbed his nose into her armpit. The nerves there tingled, and she bit her lower lip.
He brought his right hand over Geetha and touched her left waist, where her saree offered no covering. As Bharat’s cold fingers made contact, she shivered instantly, biting her lip and letting out a soft moan.
"Mmmm… Bharat."
"Oh… your waist is so smooth. I love your waist too, Miss." He gently rubbed his four fingers back and forth. Geetha’s initial chill transformed into a spreading warmth from his touch. A subtle urge began to stir within her. As Bharat inhaled her fragrance deeply and stretched his thumb to rub above her navel, Geetha’s breathing quickened, and her navel twitched with anticipation.
He stuck out his tongue into her armpit, licking the dampness of sweat on her blouse.
Geetha instantly closed her eyes, shivered violently, and exhaled heavily.

He licked again.

He moved up and rested his head on Geetha's arm, and they both looked at each other in the dim light.

"Miss, sorry."
"No, it's okay."
"Miss, can I touch you then?" Geetha’s cheeks flushed. In the dark, she could only hear Bharat's voice and see the gleam in his eyes.

"Hmm…" she replied, her voice barely a whisper.
He placed his palm on her navel, his fingers tracing the soft curve of her waist, stimulating her desires. His palm pressed directly on her navel through the saree. She closed her eyes in anticipation. Bharat bent down and placed his face in her neck, his lips brushing against her skin. She brought her left hand up and ran it through his hair.

“Yeah…” Geeta offered, a sigh of relief escaping her as she turned to unlock her house. Once inside, she called out, “Bharat, take that bag and put it on the table inside.”

“Take both our clothes and put them in the washing machine,” Geeta instructed.

“What did you see? What did you do there?” Gautam’s voice came through the phone.
“Yes, it was very good, but climbing was a bit difficult, a bit far,” Geeta replied, her focus on the onions. Suddenly, switched video call to audio, and continued her conversation with the phone pressed to her ear, deftly chopping onions and chilies.
From the hall, Bharat, engrossed in the television, found his gaze repeatedly drawn to the kitchen, though Geetha remained out of sight. His earlier plan to stay close to her while she prepared dinner hadn't materialized.
"That's it," Geetha was saying into the phone, "we drank tea at her aunt's house and returned."
"So he saw you in that dress," Gautam’s voice crackled through the receiver. "Did he say anything?"
"He kissed me."
"What, again?" Gautam’s shock was evident.
"What is it with you, dear?" Geetha’s voice held a note of exasperation. "You know how uncomfortable and embarrassed I felt being like that in front of him."

"Oh, okay," Gautam said, a sigh of relief in his voice. "Geetha, I also want to see you like that."

"Me too, dear," Geetha replied. "The curry needs to cook a little more. Wait five minutes. Go sit. I'll bring it."
