He nodded, breathless.
“Yes, because it's coming from you.”
Her eyes locked with his, lips swollen, breath uneven.
“Then I’ll tell her you're the kind who likes slow burns. Quiet tension. She’ll be intrigued.”
“I already am,” he whispered, leaning in to kiss her neck again.
But then
The sound of the elevator doors opening outside.
They froze.
Footsteps.
A bag rustled.
Madhavi smiled wickedly, wiping her mouth quickly with her dupatta. “Saved by chips.”
Abhi stepped back, breath still uneven, adjusting his shirt.
She turned off the tap,
Leaned toward him one last time, and whispered:
“Behave tonight. Or don’t. Let’s see if Shruti notices.”
The door opened.
Sandeep stepped in with two bags in hand.
“Got some masala chips, Diet Coke, and your favorite jaljeera.”
Abhi was already sitting on the sofa,
Pretending to browse something on his phone.
Madhavi was humming, sliding the coriander into a bowl.
The kitchen smelled of herbs.
But the air between them still carried the weight of everything unsaid.
