CHAPTER 16
While Sonarika went through her own conflicts in these few days. Hemant was preparing for one , he was in his factory early morning for the day , converting the backyard of the factory into an outdoor gym.Hemant stopped going to WFLF due to inconvenience in this scheduling. Plus with a wide space here in the backyard , he had more freedom and more liberty to workout. He revised his old parkour skills , remembering some of the high octane moments from his past. The life he lived at the edge of the line.
As he went through his rigorous workout , the shades of the past flashed before him , but this time it no longer haunted him. But there was something else that made him add more intensity to his workout today. Because yesterday , Tamanna confronted him when she learned he threatened Sandeep.
"HOW DARE YOU!"
"Look I can explain"
"I don't need your explanation Hemant. You don't get to decide who I see or who I meet"
"That is not what I did"
"Enough Hemant , stay away from my life , goodbye!"
She walked away after a confrontation like that in public. He felt embarassed but he's been used to being shamed in public like that. What hurt him the most was Tamanna coming in defense of Sandeep of all people. He went out his anger , imagining Sandeep's stupid face in the boxing bag , changing its shape into a rouch caricature. Once the anger was vented out , Hemant turned his attention to his duties for the day.
Hemant was focused and with determination as he prepared for his meeting with Simon Nadar. He has made a custom suit wardrobe at the spare rest room near the manager's office in his HQ. Hemant went through the paperwork , looking at all the details. His mind was locked on the ICL and RegalCorp along with a site image of the container ship Kohinoor. He understood Simon wasn't some random ally of Siddharth. He has a close tie to the entire RegalCorp , a tactical mistake from their side sending their best man to him from the getgo which helped Hemant understand the whole thing quicker.
Simon arrived at the correct time , his Mercedes showing his stature. Simon Nadar had that elite look , despite being a South Indian , his attire and presentation showing the western influence with well polished spiky haircut and a regular gym going body. Him dressed in a polo shirt along with a grey blazer coat added much to his regal look. He removed his aviators and shook Hemant's hand , his smile had the charm and stare of an opportunist businessman. Without wasting time , Hemant went into his presentation , giving in very detail what his alignment knot is and what are all the feasibilities it can provide.
Simon listened to each of his words , he also saw the focus and drive in Hemant's demeanor. How he handles everything like a professional. To him it was surprising , because Hemant wasn't behaving like an up and coming businessman , he was actually behaving like some veteran , someone who has done several deals like this before. When the presentation was done and Hemant led Simon through the factory showcasing every provisions and equipments he has for manufacture.
Simon noticed another section of the factory enclosed. Before he could move there , Hemant stopped him.
"Sorry Simon , that is the Defense Section. Strictly confidential , a military project is being developed there for the Indian Army. And only me and IA personnals have exclusive access."
Simon was very much intrigued by Hemant and his handling of his business. And he was slowly becoming a fan seeing how committed and focused he is on everything.
"Let me tell you Hemant. I am impressed , very impressed"
Hemant thrived in the appreciative words from him.
"For a upcoming businessman like you , to grow up so fast. You really have a unique talent of your own. And now I would like to see how much well talented you are. From my end , its a yes. It will be my honor to do business with you"
"I appreciate it Mr.Nadar"
"Please call me Simon. Skip the pleasentries from now on. Because all things considered , we are partners with this business deal. Both are going to benefit from it"
"Thanks Simon"
"I have to say , you really surprised Siddharth with your change. He used to believe that you were a nobody, and now here you are doing the business of a lifetime."
"Did Siddharth tell you this?"
"Indeed , he's started to see you in a new light. I had a hard time believing that you were a regular IT employee a year back. Based on what I saw , you look far better than many known businessmen in this country"
"Thank you for the kind words Simon"
"So lets just celebrate this special occasion. Shall we go for some drinks at my place of choice?"
"Sure , I don't drink though. But I will give you company with some coke"
They went to a club house at one of the skyscbangr buildings in the Lower Parel area. It had an ambience outdoor setting at the rooftop with some greenery and a swimming pool in the open while the enclosed portion had a bar and a small pub. Hemant gestured cheers with Simon's mead with his own coke as they consumed it and talked about the nature of their business deal and the scenarios they can explore in this new venture. After some time , they walked out to the outdoor. Hemant liked the view of the city from here, he was exploring the view when his attention was grabbed by the people in the swimming pool.
Hemant was shocked to see Pranitha in the pool and she was with a man who was playing with her in the pool. The man looked very attractive , as if he is some male model. They were playing with each other , splashing water , having a swimming race.
"Who is the man with Pranitha" Hemant asked Simon.
"Oh , that is Rony. We all grew up together. Been close since college , but they are a whole different game"
"Different game?"
"Yeah , Rony was basically Pranitha's first boyfriend , the first crush you can say. But they are good friends now"
Hemant chuckled , understanding the kind of 'friends' they can be. Hemant walked with Simon towards them as for a second Pranitha was startled seeing Hemant here.
"Hey Simon , how did the meet go?" Rony asked Simon as he got off the pool.
"Went well as always. And I got to meet this amazing man" Simon said pointing to Hemant.
Roni smiled as he shaked hands with Hemant.
"So , you are the infamous Hemant Kumar"
"I am"
"I have to say. You're not quiet what I envisioned when I heard your description"
"Most likely its because of my suit. Old habbit , always overdresses on meets like this"
"Sounds like you need a better fashion coach"
"I am always open for suggestions"
They had a warm conversation while Pranitha noticed their talks while wrapping a towel around her waist. She soon joined the men.
"What are you guys talking about"
"Nothing , just some small talks and knowing this gentleman right here" Rony gestured at Hemant.
"That's good but we have plans for the day remember?"
"Oh right. Sorry Hemant , we should meet very soon"
"We will , have a nice day"
"Thanks man"
Saying that all three of them left leaving Hemant standing by himself in that open space. Hemant noticed that Pranitha was purposefully ignoring him at that moment. She was staring at Rony more than at him. But then as they were leaving , Pranitha gave a sexy expression and winked looking at Hemant. Hemant felt something weird deep inside but he let it go and instead made his long drive back to his factory.
The day went as usual , as Hemant was focused on making his new project work. Forming a good rapport with Simon was an important point for him to achieve. That evening while going for an important meet at the rotary club , Hemant passed through Tamanna's place. Hemant noticed Sandeep's luxury car entering her apartment's gates hinting that he was still involved with her. Not giving much concern to that for the time being. Hemant focused on the meet he was going for.
He met with the new investors at the club. And as expected the meeting went better than he thought , he decided to celebrate.
Hemant entered the Irish Bar that evening with an easy smile and a lightness in his steps that he hadn’t felt in a long time. The celebration of landing two major contracts for YOD Industries felt like a personal victory, one he had long awaited through months of negotiations and restless nights. He had wanted Kunal beside him to share this triumph, to laugh and toast into the evening, but Kunal’s phone remained stubbornly silent. Deciding not to let it ruin his mood, Hemant ordered a chilled light beer and took a slow sip, savoring the crisp bitterness as it washed away the tension of the past few weeks. It was meant to be a night of quiet contentment, a pause to acknowledge his hard-won success.
But life, Hemant knew too well, rarely adheres to plans. As he settled into his second beer, his eyes drifted across the lively bar and froze. There she was—Pranitha, radiant as ever, her laughter like silver bells drifting across the dimly lit room. She sat with her friends, Simon and Rony, her presence brightening the corner they occupied. Hemant’s thoughts darkened as he recalled the morning's encounter at the clubhouse: Simon’s offhand revelation about Pranitha and Rony’s intense past relationship. The sight of them then—Rony splashing water at her playfully, her giggles echoing in the pool area—had left a sour taste in Hemant’s mouth. Now, watching them lean close and exchange teasing touches, he felt a painful tightness in his chest.
Deep inside, Hemant had always admired Pranitha for more than her striking beauty or her prestigious Mehta family name. It was her warmth, her unguarded kindness, the way she looked at people as if they mattered deeply, that had captivated him. Their friendship had grown slowly but meaningfully, each shared conversation building a quiet connection he cherished. He had not dared to name the deeper yearning that curled in his heart—perhaps out of fear, perhaps out of respect for the delicate balance they had. More importantly , to respect the chastity of his marriage , he saw her only as a friend for the time being. But tonight, seeing her with Rony, those hidden alternate thoughts surged up with a cruel force, sharp and undeniable.
Their eyes met across the room, a fleeting moment that seemed to stretch into an eternity. Pranitha’s gaze softened, her laughter faltering as she registered Hemant’s expression—distant, and resigned. Hemant didn’t offer his usual warm nod or gentle smile; instead, he looked away, his jaw set, his movements stiff. He rose, left after paying the waiter the bill along with his tip, and began to walk toward the exit, his shoulders slumping slightly as if under the weight of a thousand unspoken words. Pranitha watched helplessly, her breath caught in her throat, her fingers curling around her glass as if to steady herself.
For weeks , he didn't see Pranitha. And when questioned , he learned she has gone somewhere out of the country. Hemant figured probably gone somewhere to spend time with Rony. He didn't give too much thought about it as he focused on his work and his family.
That was the time Sonarika told him that she was planning to go to a bachelorette party with all the girls including Meghna somewhere in the city. Hemant never questioned her where it was , what it was. He just cautioned her to not drink much. Then Kunal surprisingly told him Mouni is going to some "Voyage of Love" and it co-incidentally came on the same night Sonarika was going for a party.
Hemant got too involved on Kunal's proposition of staying the night at Hemant's place along with his son Mohit that he forgot to think about the correlation.
He was about to leave for home in the evening when he got an unexpected call.
"Hello?"
"Hello Hemant sir , Shraddha beti gave me this number"
"Is Shraddha okay?"
"She is okay sir but I have a dilemma , can you please help sir"
"What is it miss"
"My name is Chaitali sir , I am Tamanna madam's househelp , madam actually told me to take care of Shraddha for the night as she won't be coming home tonight. But I just recieved some terrible news regarding my child , he is being admitted to a hospital. I cannot seem to reach Tamanna madam as her phone is unresponsive , I don't know what to do"
"Okay Chaitali , where are you now"
"I am in the flat with Shraddha bitiya sir"
"Okay , wait there , I am on my way"
"Okay sir"
Hemant ended the call and drove swiftly to Tamanna's place. He reached there and saw a fully emotional Chaitali.
"Did she respond?"
"No sir , still unresponsive"
"Where is your child admitted"
"City Hospital"
"Okay , if Tamanna calls you , tell her your situation and tell her that Shraddha is in my home , I will give you number of my sister Anjali as well. I will bring Shraddha home once Tamanna is back okay?"
"But sir"
"Do not worry Chaitali , Shraddha knows me , I am a close friend to Tamanna. You have seen me come here , here is my house address , nothing to worry about. Shraddha will be in the safest place in this city okay?"
"Okay , thank you sir"
"Wait , take this money. Use it if there is need in the hospitals or something"
"No sir , I can't take this"
"Chaitali you need this more than anyone right now."
"But sir this is too much"
"Its not an issue. If money comes extra , then you can return that later"
"Thank you sir , thank you very much , god bless you"
After sending her hiring an auto , Hemant helped Shraddha pack some of her stuff as he got on his SUV along with her. Shraddha looked nervous as Hemant enquired.
"What's the matter Shraddha?"
"This is the first time I am spending time in someone else's house without Mummy uncle"
"Don't worry Shraddha , I am not some stranger, I am pretty sure your mummy won't mind for a stay and having play time and fun with Karan and friends. Besides , Anju didi is curious to meet you again"
"Yay , I've brought my sketch book , didi wanted to see my drawings and share hers as well"
"So , like I said , lots of fun"
When Hemant reached home with Shraddha , Sonarika was busy with getting ready for her party night. Shraddha went to Anjali's room and stayed there interacting with her.He arrived in the bedroom seeing Sonarika applying make-up. Hemant sat there enjoying the sight of his loving wife getting ready for her party , he terribly flirted with her which only made her more caring towards him. Eventually Sonarika left leaving Hemant to get ready for the arrival of Kunal and Mohit.
Kunal stepped into Hemant’s house by evening with a deep sigh of relief, his son Mohit trailing behind him, already brightening at the sight of the warmly lit living room. To Kunal, this wasn’t just another evening — it was a much-needed escape from the chaos he called home. Hemant greeted him with a firm hug, the kind that seemed to absorb all of Kunal’s unspoken pain. Despite Kunal’s tarnished image and the whispers that followed him everywhere, Hemant never treated him with anything but respect and brotherly warmth. Tonight, as Mouni set sail on her so-called "Voyage of Love" with Sagar, Kunal felt an unexpected freedom — the burden of pretense finally left at the door.
Once inside, Mohit dashed off to join Karan, who was already firing up the PlayStation in the game room. The boys instantly fell into their own world of virtual races and friendly taunts, laughing so hard that their voices echoed down the hall. Hemant watched them with a gentle smile, occasionally stepping in to offer them snacks or help them with a tricky game level. In a way, watching the boys reminded both men of simpler times , the carefree childhood moments they wished they could reclaim for themselves.
Meanwhile, in the cozy lounge, Shraddha, a sweet and thoughtful girl, sat cross-legged on the floor beside Anjali. The two were surrounded by colored pencils, sketchbooks, and a mountain of origami paper. Shraddha shyly showed Anjali her drawings of superheroes , knights , princesses and magical forests, her eyes lighting up as Anjali praised each one with genuine admiration. Anjali encouraged Shraddha to imagine stories for her drawings, weaving elaborate tales together that had Shraddha giggling and eagerly adding new characters to the pages. In that warm bubble, Shraddha felt a rare sense of belonging — a comforting break from her otherwise uncertain routine.
After dinner, they all gathered in the living room with bowls of popcorn and mugs of chocolate ice creams. Kunal sat beside Hemant, watching the kids and Anjali play charades, their laughter rising and falling like joyful music. Mohit and Karan acted out superheroes and cartoon characters with exaggerated gestures, while Shraddha hesitated at first but gradually joined in, her face lighting up as everyone cheered her on. For a few blissful hours, there were no broken promises, no uncomfortable truths — just shared jokes, silly guesses, and the simple pleasure of being together.
And in that colorful banter , Hemant noticed Shraddha and Karan pulling on the same book. Noticing they might end up quarelling , he intervened.
"Karan ,Shraddha what's wrong"
Shraddha let go that book and came to Hemant.
"Uncle , Karan has drawn you very well but he is not willing to show it"
Hemant turned to Karan.
"I've seen that Shraddha , he draws me as a superhero. Sometimes Superman , sometimes Batman"
"No uncle , he drew you as a superhero of his own"
"His own , who is it Karan"
"I can't show you papa , its not finished , I need to color it"
"Its okay Karan , your outlines are always better"
Karan with some reluctance showed him the book. Hemant saw the drawings and showed it along to Kunal and Anjali as well as he was impressed by it. He noticed the name given to the superhero.
"GARUD-MAN?"
"I also want to call him EAGLE MAN as well!" Karan said enthusiastically.
The drawing was wonderful. Hemant was painted what it seemed like a Superman inspired character but the difference was he had an eagle shaped mask on his head and some armor designs like Batman. Hemant soon looked at Karan.
"Wonderful drawing Karan , though shall I give you my preference. Papa doesn't like capes , leave the capes out and maybe give Papa.......wings?"
"Like Hawkman"
"Yes...and where did you get the name Garudman"
"Anju didi told me the story of Garuda saving Lord Ram in Ramayana , so I thought Garud-Man , because the superhero backstory is you're given powers by Lord Garuda to protect the earth"
"Interesting. Lord Garuda huh?" Hemant turned to Anjali with a smile.
"Why not? Lord Garuda does protect you Bhaiya" Anjali clarified.
"Anyways , good job Karan , don't forget Papa's preference , no capes"
"Yes papa , I will show you the finished drawing with coloring next time"
It was a banter he loved as they all played different games and used the playstation for the next few hours.
As the night drew to a close, the kids changed into their pajamas and huddled under a big blanket fort they had built together in the living room. Hemant dimmed the lights, and Kunal felt his heart grow unexpectedly light watching the children drift off to sleep, whispering secret jokes to each other. Anjali read a soft bedtime story, her voice lulling them into peaceful dreams. For that one night, surrounded by laughter and kindness, Kunal felt truly human again.
They both were sitting in the balcony for a late night drink , though there was no alcohol as Hemant doesn't drink , Hemant shared his stash of beer with Kunal.
"I have to say Hemant , this was much needed for me"
"What the beer?"
"No , the stay , it felt good to be in an actual environment of a home , its been a while for that"
"Are you okay in your home"
"Not exactly Hemant , Mouni and me , we've been fighting a lot. Under Sagar's pressure , Mouni requested to me to join them for the old ways , but I have changed. Those thoughts, it no longer affect me anymore. I have grown from it , and this has resulted in Mouni making unnecessary ruckus and its starting to bother me"
"Maybe you should put a lid to it. You know , stand your ground and make it clear to her that the old ways is no longer welcome"
"Actually , I've been wanting to ask your opinion about something"
"Like what?"
"Life in the house , it has become unbearably bothersome for me. I was thinking about this for some time. A good friend of mine has provided me an offer , a bachelor pad in the suburbs of the city. I can easily afford it"
"Are you saying you want to move out?"
"It will give me a much needed relief Hemant. And to be frank , a break from Mouni is much needed for me , or else I will start to actually hate her and my toxicity will increase"
"But what about Mohit? Wouldn't a separation from his mom and dad affect him?"
"He will be send to boarding in few months anyways."
"Kunal , boarding is not always a solution"
"I know Hemant , but right now that is the only solution that will help me. Besides the boarding is outside the city , I can frequent to him from my new place more. I would've had at my place but I have a feeling Mouni will object to that"
"Okay , do what makes you feel at peace. I am pretty sure you won't make a wrong choice at this point in your life"
"Thanks man , I needed to hear that"
After some casual talks , both Hemant and Kunal went to bed. In the morning they woke up in time and Kunal helped Mohit in getting fresh. It was the time to leave as the kids insisted on more fun times to which both fathers gave them an assurance for the future. Hemant too got fresh and took Shraddha to her place. He called Chaitali who told him her son is out of danger and it wasn't a big issue. She had contacted Tamanna few minutes ago and explained everything and she is on the way home.
A few minutes later , Hemant heard the locks moving of the main door as Tamanna arrived. Hemant noticed her dishevelled look , her party dress has become a rough mess. Hemant understood she went for the other kind of fun last night. And he had a guess who it might be.
"Umm , I just called Chaitali , she told me her son is ok. Shraddha is in the room , she had a fun time at my place with Anju , Karan and Mohit."
"Mohit?"
"Yeah , Kunal and Mohit came to my place for a sleepover"
"That makes sense"
"How?"
"I saw his wife and her.....boyfriend in the 'Voyage Of Love'"
"Oh....that is........predictable.....so....I am guessing you had a fun time"
Tamanna didn't respond. Hemant got up to leave.
"Look I know you don't like seeing me here , so I will take my leave"
As he was moving to the door , Tamanna immediately got in front of him and hugged him tight. Hemant was taken aback by the embrace. He could feel her tremble.
"You were right Hemant....you were right about him"
That was when worry started to overwhelm him as Hemant caressed her and asked.
"Sandeep , did he do something forceful with you"
Tamanna stayed in that embrace and responded.
"He didn't force , but he tried , and lets just say he couldn't complete the race"
Hemant giggled a little which made Tamanna laugh with him as well to lighten the mood. Tamanna left the embrace.
"Why did you marry you handsome idiot"
"Oh , its not my fault you weren't there in that library ten years ago."
"Fine , sit. I'll make some coffee"
"Actually , I have some important things to do. So how about our usual meet in the usual restaurant sometime later"
"Fine by me. Thank you Hemant, for Shraddha"
"She is wonderful and you are welcome"
Hemant left her place to a short visit in the factory for a meet happening in the evening after which he returned home. And in the noon , Sonarika returned from her party exhausted and Hemant played the best family man role preparing lunch and evening snacks for his family.
And then in the evening was the moment he ran into the WuTang brothers. After taking them out , Hemant checked the surroundings in his attentive state. He noticed that the parking lot had no cameras facing this section. Deducing that he was proparly camouflaged , Hemant picked his phone and called Raquel.
"Bhaijaan?"
"Raquel , I've been marked , bring in a transport to supply. Send you the location"
"On my way , give me two minutes"
He ended the call as Hemant stared down at the pool of blood forming in the parking lot floor. Hemant moved to the back of his SUV and opened the back bonnet. He retrieved a strange box , he placed it on the carrier deck of the back bonnet and opened it to reveal varieties of tools and bottles. Hemant picked up a bunch of steel pipes and assembled it together to form a long stick. He then attached something like a vaccum. Then on one end there was a tube which Hemant connected to an empty can while another tube was attached to a mysterious can that had a solution. Hemant pressed a button and the machine started to make a sound which had partially less sound than a vaccum cleaner. Hemant then pressed another button on the pipe and the vaccum portion started to emit out a gas on the blood scattered surface. Whatever the gas was , it was cold , the blood particles in the floor started to slowly change color to a more darker red as the entire blood surface got solidified. Then Hemant used a hatchet to break apart the sold blood into pieces and collected it into the box. As he was collecting it , Raquel arrived with a jeep.
Raquel even though was surprised by the initial shock , went to work with Hemant.
"I'll collect these shards. You go identify the bodies"
Raquel checked the bodies and then their pockets. As Hemant completed removing the blood completely from the floor in those shards. Raquel returned to him with the contents from them.
"They are both brothers Bhaijaan , the WuTang Brothers. Hitmen for hire , from Beijing."
"They both were hired by the SunOnYee of the Chinese Triads. So that means they're trying to confirm its me"
"What do you want to do Bhaijaan?"
"Prepare to dispose the bodies , I have an idea who hired them. Its time to send them a message back!"
The moonlight shimmered across casting an eerie glow on the fishing boat named Heera that is sailing off the coast of Mumbai. Hemant stood at the edge of the deck, hands in his pockets, his dark eyes fixed on the two dismembered bodies sprawled before him. Raquel, his trusted right hand, moved with precise efficiency, directing the men as they hauled large stones and wrapped thick ropes around the mangled limbs. The smell of salt and blood mingled in the humid night air, heavy and suffocating. Hemant’s mind wandered to the past , to a time when killers like the ones laying before him crossed path with , a violent chapter he believed long closed.
The Triads, SunOnYee,18k. Hemant’s jaw tightened remembering these nemesises , a history of violence that was in his blood long back. Years ago, he and his old alliance had waged a silent war against those merciless killers. Back then, Hemant had been the blade in the dark, striking down their assassins and turning the tide in countless bloody encounters. He thought he had buried those memories along with their fallen. But tonight’s ambush, the sudden chaos, had brought those ghosts roaring back into his life like a curse whispered by the sea.
Without a word, Hemant pulled out his phone, the glow of the screen briefly illuminating his sharp, calculating face. He snapped a few pictures of the bodies — insurance, evidence, or perhaps trophies of another victory in his celestial war of good vs evil which has now blemished the lines of the good and the bad with blood. Each click of the camera felt like a nail driven into the coffin of an old rivalry, a signal to whoever dared to challenge him that he was still as ruthless as ever. Then, with a single curt nod, he gave Raquel the signal. The men strained as they rolled the heavy, stone-laden remains overboard, the splash echoing across the silent waves as the sea swallowed them whole.
Hemant stayed at the railing, his gaze locked on the distant Mumbai skyline, the city’s neon glow pulsing like a heartbeat against the black sky. Tonight had been a warning, a message that the forgotten war was clawing its way back to the surface. But Hemant felt no fear, only a cold surge of determination rising in his veins. The sea below hid his enemies’ corpses, but above the waves, he was alive and ready. This time, he would not just survive the storm. He would crush it, piece by piece, until nothing of the Triads or the WuTang Brothers remained but memories lost to the dark depths. In that dim lights of the boat , the ring of Garuda wrapped in his finger glowed , as if it is powering him for the war that approaches to these lands.
(CHAPTER TO BE CONTD)
While Sonarika went through her own conflicts in these few days.
