"Harish, there's a glue bottle in the staff room," Gita said. "Go get it."

Harish told Bharat to move aside and picked up some flags. "Hey, go get the glue," he ordered Bharat.

"Idiot, you're telling me to go," Bharat retorted.

"Vandana's here," Harish countered. "You go."

Bharat, meanwhile, went to the staff room. As he reached for the glue on a shelf, he heard hushed voices., coming from the right. He tiptoed over and peeked around the corner.

"Sir, have you had lunch?" Harish asked innocently.

"We just ate, dear," Ganesh replied, taking the string out of the flag's pin, twisting it, making a ball, and tying a knot. He handed it to Bharat, who took the measurement of the pole and tied a knot at the bottom hook to prevent it from coming undone.

"Did you eat in the staff room, or somewhere outside?" Harish continued, his eyes twinkling.

Bharat couldn't stop his laughter and covered his mouth with his hand, shaking with suppressed mirth.

"Teachers eat in the staff room, Harish," Ganesh said, a slight frown on his face.

"They say lately, they're even eating behind the shelves in the staff room," Harish announced loudly.

Ganesh was suddenly shocked and looked at Harish. 

Bharat couldn't hold back anymore and burst into loud laughter.

"Sorry, Sir, should we leave?" Bharat managed to choke out between laughs.

"How do you know?" Ganesh demanded, his voice tight.

"Sir, if you eat everywhere, won't people find out?" Harish said, a wide grin plastered on his face.

Bharat was laughing even louder now, and the pole he was holding was shaking.

"Don't tell anyone, you boys," Ganesh pleaded, his voice low and urgent.

"If we were going to tell, we would have by now. We won't, Sir," Harish promised, a hint of something unsaid in his tone.

College time went by their chitchats.




The evening sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows as Geetha arrived home. Swaroopa and Vimala were already engrossed in conversation in front of the house. Geetha greeted them warmly, and what was intended as a quick exchange stretched into a leisurely chat, the minutes ticking by unnoticed. Finally, Swaroopa headed upstairs, and shortly after, Vimala departed.

And after having some tea, just as Geetha was settling in, her phone rang. It was Gautam.

"What are you doing?" he asked, his voice a familiar comfort.

"Drinking tea," Geetha replied, taking a sip.

"It's almost six, so late?" Gautam's surprise was evident.

"Today, when I came home, Swaroopa and Vimala were chatting upstairs, and a lot of time passed," she explained, a hint of a smile in her tone.

"Oh..." Gautam paused. "It would have been good if you had stayed a few more days."

"What happened?" Getha's brow furrowed slightly.

"Just missing you," he admitted, his voice softening.

Geetha chuckled. "Already? You still have to be there for another six months, sir."

"Ah, that's true," he conceded.

"Should I come again next month?" she offered, a playful note in her voice.

"You can't just keep coming, can you?" Gautam laughed.

"Hmm..." Geetha hummed in agreement.

"Mom asked you to come home, will you go?" he inquired, shifting the topic.

"Yes, my mom also asked me to come," Getha confirmed. "Tomorrow is Republic Day, so I have to stay. I'll go next week, but I'm not sure if the college will give leave."

"Shiva told me yesterday," Gautam began, "Sindhu is your senior, right?"

"Yes, she's from my village too. She's two years older than me," Getha replied, surprised by the sudden mention.

"That's what he said. It's a coincidence that my friend and your friend got married, haha," Gautam chuckled, amused by the connection.

"Hmm... Yes," Getha affirmed, the realization dawning on her.

"What did you cook today?" he asked, a typical domestic query.

"In the morning, there was leftover spinach from yesterday, so I took that for lunch to college," Getha recounted. "Now, after coming home, I thought of washing my face and going to the market, but these two took up a lot of time. I have to go now. I was thinking of taking Bharath along if he comes."

"Oh... I completely forgot to ask about him the other day. Is he studying?" Gautam's tone became more serious.

"Yes, he's studying. Quite well," Getha confirmed, a touch of pride in her voice.

"Shiva met him, and after 10th grade, Bharath apparently told Shiva he'd do something," Gautam revealed, a hint of intrigue in his voice.

"Meaning?" Getha pressed, curious.

"Who knows, their universities, researches, we won't understand any of that. It's at a big level. Shiva is going to personally guide our hero," Gautam explained, a note of awe in his voice.

"Really?" Getha was genuinely surprised.

"Yes... He told me yesterday. Didn't Bharath tell you?" Gautam asked.

"No, he didn't," Getha admitted, a little taken aback.

"Maybe he thought why tell everyone when junior college isn't over yet," Gautam mused.

"Hmm..." Getha considered this. "Anyway, does he even have that much 'scene'? He doesn't study properly, does he?"

"Haha... You don't know about Shiva," Gautam laughed, clearly amused. "He'll hit him with a stick and make him study."

"So, am I teaching him with kisses?" Getha retorted playfully, a spark of mock indignation. "I'm also very strict!"

"Haha... Bharath might be scared and not come to tuition, Geetha," Gautam teased back.

"Alright," she conceded, a smile playing on her lips.

"Okay then, I'll call you later," Gautam said, preparing to end the call.

"Okay," Geetha replied.

As she hung up, a fleeting thought crossed her mind, making her wonder why she had impulsively mentioned "kisses." She recalled Bharath's mischievous banter with her and a soft laugh escaped her lips. 

She waited for Bharath for a while, but as the minutes stretched, she concluded he wouldn't be coming and decided to head to the market on her own.
