Meghana:
“She’s… steadier now. Calmer.
She didn’t say much,
but I could hear her smile through the phone.
She said she needed the break.
And that she’ll be back in a few days.”
Abhi let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.
Abhi:
“I’m glad. I was worried.”
Meghana:
“She knows, Abhi. She saw everything. But she’s not angry at anyone. Not anymore.”
Abhi:
“I hope so.”
Another moment passed.
Then Meghana's voice softened again, playful, like the edge of a whisper against the wind:
Meghana:
“So... about tomorrow morning. I’ve been thinking of trying something... new.”
Abhi:
“Oh?”
Meghana:
“Let’s just say I’ve been inventing again. But this one’s not as innocent as Heart-Knee Embrace.”
Abhi:
“Now that’s a dangerous sentence to drop and end the call with.”
She laughed, that beautiful warm ripple he hadn’t heard in days.
Meghana:
“Sleep early. You’ll need your breath tomorrow.”
Abhi:
“I’ll bring it. Every last one.”
She lingered for half a second more. Then
Meghana:
“Goodnight, Abhi.”
Abhi:
“Goodnight, Meghana.”
The line went quiet.
But the silence that followed was not empty
It was full.
Of knowing, of yearning, of the calm before a new beginning.
