They stood in silence for a moment longer
Both caught in the same orbit of memories.
Then Meghana tilted her head. “We’ll hear from her soon.”
“You sure?”
“I have to be.” Her voice was soft but certain. “She’s my sister. And she’s too curious to stay away from us for long.”
That last word… “us” … hung in the air.
Abhi looked at her.
Their shared understanding didn’t need clarification.
Just then, someone upstairs closed a door with a thud, jolting them slightly.
“I should go,” Meghana said, adjusting her dupatta.
Abhi stepped back slightly. “Yeah.”
As she turned toward her flat, she paused, glanced over her shoulder.
“If she comes back… will you be ready?”
He met her gaze. Calm, sure.
“I was always ready. For both of you.”
A smile tugged at her lips. Not flirtatious. Not teasing. Just full of truth.
She nodded, then slipped outside.
She left leaving the memories behind.
And Abhi stood there, alone in the corridor,
Something inside him warmer than it had been all week.
