Sunday Late afternoon continues
Inside, the movis is over
The living room buzzed gently with the sound of a playlist Madhavi had put on, low instrumental jazz.
Sandeep, relaxed T-shirt, was arranging snacks on the center table.
Popcorn, peanuts, a few biscuits.
“Alright,” he announced cheerfully. “Game time. Cards or Carrom?”
Madhavi stepped out of the kitchen, wiping her hands.
She’d changed into a simple lavender cotton kurti,
but it hugged her waist just enough to linger in Abhi’s peripheral vision.
Her hair was loose now, falling in gentle waves around her shoulders.
“Cards,” she said with a quick glance at Abhi. “Let’s keep it dangerous.”
Abhi, seated on the floor near the couch, smiled. “Only if someone doesn’t cheat.”
Sandeep groaned. “Madhavi is the worst. She smuggled two jokers into the last game.”
“Don’t reveal my secrets,” she said, sitting cross-legged directly across from Abhi.
They began dealing.
Just as Abhi looked down at his cards, his phone buzzed softly.
A muted notification. WhatsApp.
He glanced at it discreetly.
Madhavi: “You look too calm. I want to rattle you.”
He looked up.
Her eyes met his, only briefly
Then she turned back to her cards.
Sandeep was still busy shuffling the next deck.
A few seconds later, another buzz.
Madhavi: “Did you notice how I sat?”
He did now.
She had folded her legs in such a way that her kurti had slipped just slightly up her thigh.
Not scandalously, but enough for her skin to be visible to only him,
Just above the knee. Smooth, untouched by light.
Her anklet shifted softly when she moved.
