Thursday Evening – The Pause That Trembled
The corridor outside 202 felt familiar and different.
Abhi paused outside her door. His hand hovered above the bell.
He didn’t press it.
Before he could knock, the door opened.
Madhavi stood there, barefoot.
Her soft cream saree clung to her frame, its delicate folds contrasting against the lights in her house.
Her hair was tied up lazily, a few damp strands curling near her temples.
The light behind her made her silhouette glow faintly, warm and home-lit.
“I heard your steps,” she said with a small smile. “Come in.”
Abhi stepped inside.
It smelled like curry leaves, fresh coriander, and something faintly sweet underneath.
But even stronger than the food was the scent of her, familiar now.
Comforting.
Disrupting.
