Varnika nodded slightly.
But didn’t look at her.
Meghana sat on the other end of the couch, leaving a respectful stretch of space between them.
She folded one leg under the other and looked toward the television,
even though her attention was on the quiet beside her.
It wasn’t cold.
But it wasn’t warm either.
It was... new. This silence between them.

She let it linger for a while,
sipping her own drink,
letting the fizz from the soda whisper between sips.
The clock ticked in the background.
A scooter passed below.
“Did the university visit go okay?” she asked at last, softly.
