At forty-nine, he was a man of responsibility, married to Gauri, a devoted housewife aged forty-two. Geetha had recently completed her degree at the Karimnagar Government College, but her aspirations were dashed when she failed the entrance exam for a central university. Disheartened, she set aside her academic ambitions. However, fate intervened when a relative of Jayaraj found a match for her. With a shy nod of agreement from Geetha, the marriage proposals began to flow.

The chosen suitor was Gautam, a thirty-two-year-old General Manager at a paint company in the South Zone. Tall and fair, he was immediately taken by Geetha’s traditional saree, her long hair, graceful walk, and innocent smile. After a series of phone conversations to foster their connection, they met in person, and their bond blossomed. Soon, they were joyfully married.

Post-wedding, the couple relocated to Hyderabad, where Gautam’s career flourished. They settled into a comfortable home, complete with all the modern amenities. Seventeen months passed, and Geetha had hoped that Gautam would shower her with love and happiness. Yet, as time went on, she felt increasingly neglected, as her husband seemed to prioritize work above all else. 

One evening, Gautam returned home with news that initially filled Geetha with excitement.

“What is it?” she asked, her heart racing.

“I got a new job, better than this one,” he replied, a proud smile on his face.

Her heart soared, thinking this might finally mean more time together. But then, Gautam’s next words shattered her hopes.

“But it’s in Dubai; they emailed me. They want the best performers like me.”

Geetha’s heart sank. “No, Dubai is not good; try to find something better here,” she urged.

Gautam explained his intentions and future plans, and while Geetha appreciated his ambition, sadness washed over her at the thought of being apart. Despite the seven-year age difference, she felt a deep connection with him. Two months later, Gautam departed for Dubai, promising to return every three months and to keep in touch through video calls.

“Please take care. Don’t neglect your meals; look after your health,” Geetha reminded him, her voice laced with concern.

The months rolled by, and they maintained their connection through calls and video chats. In the meantime, Geetha learned of a vacancy for a Math teacher at the nearby Thakur High college and decided to apply. She began her daily routine of college, making friends with Vimala, a neighbor.

One day, while tidying up, Geetha stumbled upon Gautam’s laptop, which he had left behind. Thinking it might be useful, she took it to the bedroom. However, she didn’t know the password, so she called Gautam.

“Hey, your laptop is here. I will use it,” she said.

“Use it; I won’t mind,” he replied casually.

“But it’s asking for a password,” she pointed out.

“It’s your name, Geetha143$,” he instructed.

“Thanks!” she replied, feeling a sense of excitement.

That night, after charging the laptop, Geetha called her friend Samatha.

“How to access those videos? ” she asked, her curiosity piqued.

“Why?” Samatha inquired.

“Oh, just tell me; my husband is not here, and I’m feeling sad,” Geetha admitted.

Samatha mentioned a website, and Geetha, intrigued, opened it. As she clicked on a video, her heart raced. The scene unfolded before her eyes—a man and a woman engaged in an intimate act. Just then, a knock at the door interrupted her thoughts.

“Hey, did slept already ?” Vimala asked, stepping inside.

“No, sister... what’s up at this time?” Geetha replied, trying to mask her fluster.

“It’s Monday, I’m fasting, and I didn’t eat anything for dinner. I went to buy milk, but the shop was closed. If you have some, please do you mind borrowing ,” Vimals explained.

“Oh, is that all? Come inside; I’ll get it for you,” Geetha said, leading her friend into the kitchen.

As Vimala looked around, she noticed the neatly arranged college books and pictures on the table. Her gaze fell upon the laptop on the bed.

“Wow, your house is really nice!” Vimala exclaimed.

“Yes, thank you, sister,” Geetha replied, a hint of pride in her voice.

Vimala picked up the laptop, and Geetha rushed in, grabbing it from her hands.

“Sorry, sister, that’s my husband’s personal laptop, so please don’t think anything of it,” she said, smiling nervously.

“Oh, is that so? That’s fine,” Vimala replied, a knowing look in her eyes.

Geetha handed her the flask of milk. “Here’s the milk.”

“Thanks, Geetha. I’ll be going now,” Vimal said, turning to leave.

“Good night, sister,” Geetha called after her.

As Vimala stepped out, she added, “What good night? My husband hasn’t been sleeping at nights lately.”

Geetha asked “ why? ”, brow furrowed in confusion. 

“Why do you ask like that? Don’t you know husband’s condition when he comes home at night?” Vimala teased, laughing as she patted Geetha on the shoulder.

Geetha, innocent and unaware, shook her head. 

“What? You don’t understand?” Vimala pressed, her laughter ringing in Geetha’s ears.

After Vimal left, Geetha’s mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. She couldn’t shake the image from the video, wondering how wonderful it would be if Gautam could at least show her that kind of passion.

The next morning, Geetha donned a pink saree, the pallu flowing gracefully down her back, the mangalsutra resting delicately on her chest. She adjusted her saree, ensuring it covered her waist, though it still felt a bit loose, adding to her shyness. As she stepped outside, the sun illuminated her figure, and she felt the eyes of passersby upon her.

“Okay, hurry up and go inside,” Geetha urged, continuing on her way.

As the students gathered for morning prayer, Bharath searched for Geetha, his heart racing when he finally spotted her. She stood in line, chatting with the biology teacher, Ramya. Bharat’s eyes were glued to her, lost in admiration of her beauty.

After the prayer, Geetha entered the classroom, and as she walked in, Bharat’s gaze followed her every move.

“I just finished working at the college registrar's office and washed my face,” Geetha replied, a smile creeping onto her lips.

“Darling, I’m coming next month on the 10th,” Gautam said, and Geetha felt a flutter of happiness in her chest, a blush creeping onto her cheeks. She absentmindedly played with her hair, holding it delicately between her fingers.

As the bell rang, signaling the end of the period, Geetha gathered her book and purse, preparing to leave. Bharat, unable to resist, followed her out of the classroom. She walked ahead, dbangd in a green cotton saree, her movements graceful and illuminating. Bharat trailed behind, mesmerized by the way her right hip lifted with each step, the left swaying gently. Geetha's heart softened at his words, but she knew the assignment had to be completed. "Is that so? But you have to do the assignment, Bharat; these marks will also be included in the board exam." 

"I know, Miss," he replied, his voice tinged with resignation. 

"That's not all; bring your parents tomorrow," she insisted. 

"But Miss, they won't come. My mom goes to work early, and my dad is busy with the vegetable shop." 

"Bharat, this is not something I say; the principal said to call the parents of those who haven't submitted their assignments. Please try to bring one of your parents tomorrow, and let them meet me at eleven o'clock when I will be free." 

"Okay, Miss," he said, and with that, he left the staff room. 

After Bharat departed, Geetha picked up her phone and called Gautam. 

"Good morning madam, what’s the matter?" Gautam's voice came through, and Geetha felt a flutter of shyness. 

"Oh, you are calling me madam, dear," she replied, a smile creeping onto her face. 

"In college, you are a madam, right?" he teased. 

"Hmm... but you said good morning in the morning," she countered playfully. 

"What, is it wrong to say it again?" 

"Okay, what are you doing?" 

"Nothing much, just working and submitting assignments, boring life," he replied. 

As they chatted, time slipped away, and soon it was time for Geetha's next class. "Darling, I have to go; I will call you in the evening," she said, her tone laced with reluctance. 

"Give me a kiss," Gautam urged. 

"I am in college ," she protested. 

"No, just give it," he insisted. 

Looking around to ensure no one was watching, she touched her lips to the phone, making a kissing sound. "Okay then, bye," she said, her heart fluttering as she headed to the seventh grade. 

Later that evening, as Geetha walked home, sounds of vehicles filled the air, and a torn piece of a poster fluttered away in the wind. Geetha spotted a small rose flower blooming by the roadside and bent down to pluck it. As she did, her left side became visible, revealing her curves to a boy nearby, who was mesmerized, leaning against a wall and watching her intently. 

With the flower in hand, Geetha walked away gracefully, unaware that Bharat was on the other side of the road, following her. He turned back and headed home, his thoughts consumed by her.

Before going to prayer, he entered the staff room, where Geetha was just stepping out. "Geetha Miss... Miss, wait," he called out. 

She turned, and their eyes met, sending a rush of emotions through Bharat. He stood there, holding the flower, and Geetha smiled at the sight of it. 

"What, Bharat? Are you going to say I love you to me?" she teased playfully, and Bharat blushed, his cheeks turning crimson. 

"Miss, this is for you. I thought you would like it," he stammered, extending the flower toward her. 

Geetha's heart warmed at his gesture. "Thanks, Bharat, it's really nice. I love rose flowers," she said, taking the rose and smiling at him. 

Bharat stood there, silent and blushing, as Geetha went off to prayer. 

At eleven o'clock, Bharat's mother arrived at the college. After finding out that Geetha was in the staff room, she made her way there. 

"Are you Geetha teacher?" Susheela asked, her voice polite. 

Geetha looked up, "Yes, that's me. Please have a seat. And you are?" 

"I am Bharat's mother. I came to talk about something," Susheela replied, her tone serious. 

Geetha nodded, "Your son didn't submit his assignment; this is the second time." 

"I told him, Miss, but we didn't have money for the materials. All his fees are going towards that. He insists on going to a convent college," Susheela explained. 

"That's true, but you should try to manage a little. I've been observing Bharat for the past two months; he does well in all subjects except Science and Maths. He is usually silent," Geetha said, her concern evident. 

"Yes, he doesn't hang out with many friends; he stays at home playing on his phone," Susheela admitted. 

"Look, there are still two days left for the FA assignment. Tell him to do it today. He is weak in Science and gets average marks in Maths. You should send him for tuition somewhere; if he continues to play on his phone like this, he won't get good marks in the tenth grade, and he won't get into a good college," Geetha advised. 

"I will consider it, Miss. I will also make sure he studies more at home," Susheela promised. 

"That's good. Don't give him the phone at all; it's the phone that distracts them," Geetha added. 

"Okay, Miss. Is there anything else you want to say?" Susheela asked. 

"No, that's all. If he studies well, it will reflect positively on the college and all the teachers," Geetha replied, her tone firm yet kind. 

After the meeting, Geetha went to the tenth class, where Bharat sat quietly, his mind racing. "Did mom come? What did she say?" he asked Harish, who sat nearby. 

"Hey, Miss is here, sit down," Harish said, nudging him. 

"Good morning, Miss," the class chorused as Geetha entered. 

"Please sit down. Bharat, Kiran, your parents have visited. You need to submit your assignments in three days; otherwise, you won't get marks in internals," she reminded them. 

Both boys nodded, and Geetha noticed the rose Bharat had given her, still sitting on her desk. A smile crept onto her face, and she felt a warmth in her heart. 

"Bharat, go and wipe the board; I will take attendance," Geetha instructed. 

As Bharat got up, he quietly whispered, "Miss, you look very beautiful. You look even better in this pink saree today." 

Geetha felt flattered by his compliment, a blush creeping onto her cheeks. While taking attendance, Bharat wiped the board carefully, ensuring no chalk dust was left. When he turned back to go to his bench, Geetha stood there, and he noticed a birthmark on her back. 

Bharat's gaze lingered on her, and Harish, noticing, gestured playfully. Bharat quickly looked away, embarrassed. 

"Okay, sit down, Bharat," Geetha said, her voice gentle yet commanding.

Days passed, and one afternoon, while returning from college, Geetha stopped to buy vegetables. Noticing the grocery store was closed, she went to another shop on the college road. 

"I shouldn't go near him; he looks at me like that, but I can't help it," she thought, feeling a mix of discomfort and intrigue. 

"Can I have a small packet of milk?" she asked the shopkeeper, who was munching on something, his gaze lingering on her. 

Geetha felt uneasy under his hungry stare. "Hurry up, I have to go; I have a lot of work," she urged, her voice flustered. 

He smiled slightly and handed her the milk. "Hey, I’ve seen you around; you don’t come to our shop often," he remarked, his tone casual. 

"How can I come when you look at me like that?" Geetha thought but kept her thoughts to herself. 

"There’s another shop next to my house anna (brother), that’s why I don’t come here," she replied, trying to maintain her composure. 

When she called him " anna," he looked surprised, and Geetha smiled to herself as she left the shop. 

Upon arriving home, a woman stood there, introducing herself as Swaroopa. "I heard your upper portion is vacant; I wanted to ask if you would rent it out. We live in the third lane. The owner is demolishing the old house to build a new one," she explained. 

Geetha nodded, "You should ask my husband; he will be back on the ninth. You can meet him then." 

"Okay, I will come back next week," Swaroopa said, her tone friendly. 

"Who all will be living with you?" Geetha inquired. 

"Me, my husband, and our son who is studying for his degree," Swaroopa replied. 

"Alright," Geetha said, and Swaroopa left. 

That night, Gautam video-called Geetha. When she picked up, he noticed her gloomy face. "Hey, what happened? Why do you look so down?" 

"Nothing, just feeling a bit tired," Geetha replied, trying to mask her emotions. 

"Oh, really? Are you going to sleep? Should I call you in the morning?" Gautam asked, concern lacing his voice. 

"When are you coming?" she asked, a hint of annoyance creeping in. 

"I told you, I will come on the ninth," he replied, his tone apologetic. 

"Can't you come tomorrow?" she pressed, her sigh betraying her disappointment. 

"If I can, I will definitely come, darling," he promised, sensing her sadness. 

The thought of having disappointed him made her heart ache, and tears welled up in Geetha's eyes. 

" what happened? Why are you crying?" he asked, his voice filled with concern. 

"You said you would come to see me, but it’s been three months, and now you are a month late," she confessed, her voice trembling. 

"Geetha, be patient; I really want to see you. I will come in about ten days, okay? I can’t sleep here without you," he reassured her. 

Geetha wiped her tears, feeling a mix of longing and hope. "Okay, I will call you in the morning. Good night," she said softly, her heart heavy yet hopeful for the days to come.
