Me - “That’s just how Mom is, guys. She’s got style like no one else. People are always jealous of my family because of her.”

I spotted Mom across the room, her pink outfit glowing under the lights. She saw Dad talking to the strong man and hesitated, her lips pressed together like she wasn’t sure about going over. After a moment, she straightened her shoulders and walked toward them, her hips swaying, her radiant skin catching every eye. 

I followed, curious about this guy and why he seemed so important. As I got closer, I heard Dad’s voice, loud and excited.

Dad - “Sonia! There you are! Come here, I want you to meet someone special. This is a big night, after all.”

Mom - “Anil, you’re making a fuss over nothing. I was just chatting with my friends. Who’s this you’re so excited about?”

The man turned to Mom, his eyes locking onto her. He looked her up and down, from her tight top to her curvy hips, his gaze intense and focused. It was like Dad wasn’t even there, his attention completely on her.

Dad - “Sonia, this is Mr. Pranav, my supervisor at the company. He’s been a huge help at work. I’m lucky to have him as a friend too.”

Pranav - “Sonia, it’s a pleasure to meet you. Anil’s told me about you, but you’re even more stunning in person. I can see why he’s so proud of you.”

Mom’s cheeks flushed, but she kept her smile steady.

Mom - “Thank you, Pranav, that’s very kind."
