Tuesday Night – Messages Under Moonlight
Abhi lay on his bed, one arm folded beneath his head, the fan spinning above in rhythmic circles.
The day had been a whirlwind, from that indoor yoga with Meghana that still left a soft ache in his chest, to the university run with Varnika that somehow felt too short, even with all its stolen glances and shared laughter.
His phone buzzed softly beside him.
Varnika (10:48 PM):
Still awake, Mr. Chauffeur?
He smiled.
Abhi (10:49 PM):
Of course. Responsible chauffeurs are always on standby.
Do you have another emergency campus run planned tonight?
Varnika (10:49 PM):
Nope. Just a sudden craving to talk to someone who drives recklessly to steal hugs. ?
Abhi chuckled softly, shaking his head.
Abhi (10:50 PM):
Excuse me, that road had *many* potholes. I deny all hug-theft allegations.
Also, you didn’t seem too upset when your arms tightened around me... twice.
Varnika (10:51 PM):
Hmph. Maybe I was just trying not to fall.
But for the record, that second brake felt *very* intentional.
Abhi (10:51 PM):
No comment. I plead the fifth. ?
There was a short pause. He stared at the screen, unsure if he should say more. But then...
Varnika (10:53 PM):
You looked happy today. It suited you.
Even the way you look at Meghana akka… it’s sweet.
That surprised him.
Abhi (10:54 PM):
She’s… special. Has been for a while.
But today, I also noticed someone else.
Varnika (10:55 PM):
Oh really? Who’s the lucky girl?
Better not be someone from the rasam counter.
Abhi (10:56 PM):
Nope. It was a girl with sleepy eyes, untied hair, and the most expressive eyebrows I’ve seen.
She wore my helmet today.
A beat.
Then:
Varnika (10:57 PM):
Hmm. Sounds dangerously close to flirty.
Goodnight, Mr. Not-So-Shy-Anymore.
Don’t dream about me too obviously. ?
Abhi bit his lower lip, smiling wide now.
Abhi (10:58 PM):
Too late.
Already started.
No reply came after that.
Just the quiet glow of the phone screen dimming… and the soft heat left behind by her final message.
