Meghana chuckled, finally sitting down beside her on the rug. “You’re making up stories.”
Varnika bumped her shoulder playfully. “No, you’re just pretending not to enjoy them.”
Meghana raised an eyebrow, teasing right back now.
“Oh really? You didn’t seem so disinterested either when he adjusted your helmet strap before the ride. I saw that look on your face.”
Varnika gasped. “Excuse me! I am a lady. That helmet strap was tight. It was survival, not seduction.”
They both burst into laughter.
A beat of quiet followed
Just the gentle hum of the fan and the echo of their smiles.
Then Varnika said more softly, “He’s really something though, isn’t he?”
Meghana looked ahead, her voice mellow now. “He is. Kind, grounded… and he listens.”
“And he’s noticing you,” Varnika said, her tone gentle now. “In a way I don’t think many people ever have.”
Meghana didn’t speak immediately. Just nodded, her lips curving in a way that was more vulnerable than amused.
“Hmm,” Varnika said, stretching her arms above her head. “Anyway, if you ever get tired of him, just pass him along. I don’t mind a second-hand love story.”
Meghana smacked her with a cushion. “Stop!”
“Fine,” Varnika said, giggling as she ducked, “I’ll wait for my own first-hand version. But just letting you know... I wouldn’t mind if he looked at me like that.”
Meghana tossed another cushion at her, laughing. “You’re impossible.”
“And you,” Varnika said with a wink, “are definitely not fooling me anymore.”
