Tuesday Late Afternoon – Sisters & Secrets
Meghana stepped out from the bedroom just as the front door clicked shut.
Varnika was still lounging on the living room rug
Half-reclined against a cushion
Fingers twirling a strand of her hair and an unmistakable grin playing on her rosy lips.
“Ohhh,” she said, drawing out the word like a slow, spicy tease. “So... that was just giving company, hmm?”
Meghana rolled her eyes, walking past to adjust the curtain. “He was. You needed to go to the university.”
“Uh-huh.” Varnika sat up straighter, her eyes dancing.
“And I’m sure that was the only reason he came upstairs twice today. Once for yoga and then for this little afternoon lounge. Just being... helpful.”
Meghana tried to look unfazed, but the faint pink that crept up her cheeks gave her away.
“I’m serious,” she muttered. “He’s just... sweet.”
Varnika grinned wider. “Sweet? Meghu akka, that man has been looking at you like you’re the sunrise and the monsoon wrapped into one. You’re calling that sweet?”
Meghana turned, arms crossed, a half-smile blooming despite herself.
“He wasn’t looking at me. You’re imagining things.”
“Oh, was I imagining the way his eyes paused when you leaned over to hand me the towel this morning?"
"Or how he kept glancing toward your room like he could still smell your lavender oil or something?” She tilted her head.
her tone mock-innocent. “And did you notice how he kept forgetting what he was saying whenever you walked past?”
