On the Road
They rode slowly at first, winding through the narrower by-lanes where puddles still reflected the sky.
She kept a slight gap between them.
Just enough to maintain propriety, just enough to pretend that her body wasn’t humming from being so close to his.
Her fingers gripped the handles behind, but not tightly.
Then came the bump.
Unexpected.
A sudden rise near a chai stall that had gone unnoticed.
She gasped, a short, surprised sound—half-laugh, half-startle—and her body pressed forward.
Instinct, not intention.
Her chest met the solid line of his back.
Her breath caught.
He felt it all.
The warmth of her against him.
