Meghana gave her a dry smile and disappeared into the bedroom.
As the sound of hangers and cupboard doors filled the air, Varnika leaned toward Abhi, lowering her voice, half-whispering.
“Hey…”
“Hmm?”
She gave him a sly glance. “You do know she never teaches anyone indoors, right?”
Abhi blinked. “What do you mean?”
“I mean… she’s had dozens of friends, students, colleagues ask her to guide them through partner yoga. Even offered to pay. But she always says she doesn’t have time—or that it has to be outdoors, under the sky, where it’s pure and open and blah blah blah.”
She tilted her head.
“But you’re here. On the mat. In the flat. Alone with her.” She took a sip of chai, her grin widening. “Interesting.”
Abhi’s heart ticked once. Then again.
He didn’t answer.
He didn’t need to.
Varnika just smiled, content with the reaction. “Anyway… I’ll get ready. I want to stop by the old tea shop near campus before the office. Their ginger biscuit is still better than this one.” She waved her half-eaten one in the air.
Abhi chuckled. “Bribing me with snacks already?”
“No, just letting you know what you’ll be treated to for being my escort.”
She disappeared down the hall, still humming lightly.
Meghana re-emerged, holding the pink kurti in her hand, fingers smoothing it out. Her eyes flicked once to Abhi.
And this time, she smiled fully—slow, sure, almost proud.
No words were needed.
But the message was clear:
Today, you crossed the threshold.
And tomorrow?
That mat would still be there.
Waiting.
