Varnika noticed.
She also noticed how Abhi looked at her when she wasn’t speaking—how his eyes softened briefly when she returned from the kitchen licking a trace of kheer off her fingertip, how he stumbled on a sentence when she absentmindedly tucked her legs up into the chair and rested her cheek on her palm.
She wasn’t unaware.
She was just... curious.
Not naïve.
Not dismissive.
Just watching...
And still, Abhi sat there with echoes inside him. Of breath held just behind touch.
Of the way Meghana had pressed close—not seducing him, not teasing, but offering something wordless and warm, as if inviting him to come a step closer but not quite crossing the line herself.

“I can—” he began.
But she touched his hand lightly. “Let me.” Her fingers barely pressed his knuckles, but the message was clear.
She carried the plates to the kitchen. Varnika, licking her spoon, leaned forward with a casual air. “So, you’re still working from home this week, right?”
Abhi nodded. “Mostly. Just a few calls.”
“Perfect,” she said, glancing over her shoulder to make sure Meghana wasn’t close. “I’ve got two interviews this week, and the university wants me to come in tomorrow for some document stuff. Meghana’s packed in the mornings.”
“You want me to take you?”
