I brought a bottle of single malt—good stuff. If I was going to hear something I might regret, might as well take the edge off.

We eased into the conversation with the usual small talk—work, cricket, a bit about the economy. Joss poured us both a drink. He was relaxed, even cracked a few jokes.

Then I shifted gears.

“I’ve been hearing stuff,” I said casually, “you know how these circles are.”

He leaned back, took a sip. “Ali… listen. People say all kinds of things. You shouldn’t let it get to you.”

We let it hang there. Went back to talking sports. But I could tell the liquor was starting to warm him up. His eyes were a little red. His posture looser.

I waited.

Then, when I caught the right pause, I brought it back.

“So… what did you hear, exactly?”

Joss blinked at me. “About what?”

I took the gamble. “Something happened at Noor’s party. Between Sheeza and Ashish.”

He shifted in his seat. Visibly uncomfortable now. He looked like a man who didn’t want to be the one to say it out loud—but couldn’t un-hear it either.

“Joss, c’mon,” I said, my voice low, “you’re my boy. Talk to me. What did you hear?”

He took another gulp from his glass. Avoided my eyes.

“That he was with her at the party.”

“With her?” I repeated. “What does that even mean? They made out?”

He hesitated.

So I laughed, bitter and tense. “What? Did they have sex or something?”

“Yes,” he said. “That’s what I heard.”

I stared at him. “They had sex?”

He looked down. Nodded.

I lowered my voice, a tremor in my throat. “So you’re telling me the rumor is… he fucked her?”

“That’s what I heard, Ali.”

“But people say all kinds of things,” he added quickly, trying to soften the blow.

I didn’t want to hear anything else. Not qualifiers. Not ‘maybe’s. Just the truth.

“At the party?” I asked.

“Yes.”

I leaned back, stunned. The room felt heavy. The air too thick.

“It doesn’t make sense,” I said. “You were there with me.”

“I know,” Joss said.

“Did you see anything? Hear anything?”

“No,” he replied. “I didn’t know a thing until I got to work Monday. Then it was everywhere.”

“So Ashish was telling people?”

“I heard it from others,” Joss said. “I don’t know who started it. But by Tuesday, everyone was talking.”

I clenched my jaw. “Where did they say this supposedly happened?”

He hesitated.

“One of the rooms upstairs. The one near the balcony.”

I blinked.

“So what… they just went upstairs and… fucked in the middle of the party?”

“That’s the rumor.”

“While everyone was downstairs?”

He looked away. “I heard Noor was outside the door. Keeping it guarded.”

I just sat there. Stunned. Speechless.

“Joss,” I said finally. “What is the full rumor? Exactly. Please.”

He looked exasperated, almost guilty now. His fingers ran through his hair.

“Ali, I work there. I didn’t want to get involved.”

“We’ve been buddies three years, Joss. You’d want the truth if it was your wife.”

He sighed. Long and hard. Then met my eyes.

“OK,” he said. “I’ll tell you, Ali.”




Ali: You know Raj, right? That short guy? Even he said something... said he saw her dancing with Ashish in balcony.

Joss:Yeah, man. Raj told me too. Said she was grinding on him like she didn’t care who was watching. Ashish had his hands on her hips, pulling her closer… real close. Then his hand slid under her pallu.

Ali:Grabbed her ass?

Joss: Full-on squeezed it, bro. Said she looked back at him and smiled. Her ass was pressed against his crotch, just swaying with the beat, like she was giving him a lap dance in the middle of the damn party. His hands started on her waist but kept going lower. She didn’t stop him. Didn’t even flinch.

Ali: You’re fucking serious?

Joss: Dead serious. And that’s not even the worst of it.  
Someone said while they were passing by the balcony near the guest bedroom… they heard something. Moaning. Rhythmic banging. Thought it was just some couple fucking—until they noticed a pair of heels outside the door. The same ones she came in wearing.

Ali:Fuck...

Joss: And then—this is the part I still don’t know if it’s bullshit or not—Dev says he peeked through the door. Just a little gap. And what he saw...

Your wife was bent over the edge of the bed. Her blouse was undone, red saree bunched up around her waist. Hair all messy. Her back arched. And Asish ? He was behind her. Pants down. Just pounding her from behind, balls slapping her ass, pulling her hair.

Said she was moaning like a pornstar, biting the sheet, begging him—‘Harder… faster… don’t stop…’ he was interrupted by Noor .

Ali: …you actually believe that happened?

Joss: That’s the thing, bro… I don’t know. People talk a lotta shit. Dev… he’s known fo
r exaggerating, always trying to stir shit. So maybe he just imagined it. Maybe he’s jealous Who knows?
