One week later 


It was Monday evening. Ali stepped into the house, the quiet click of the main door barely registering over the soft sizzle from the kitchen.

He moved toward the dining area, loosening his tie, when he heard Sheeza's voice from the kitchen. Her phone was on speaker.



Noor (on speaker): “There’s a rumour going around about you… from the party.”

Ali froze mid-step.

Sheeza’s hand, holding the spatula, stopped. Her face changed ever so slightly—just a flicker of tension in her brows. Then, without hesitation, she picked up the phone and turned off the speaker.

She walked toward the corner of the kitchen, phone pressed to her ear now, her voice lowered.

Ali couldn’t hear Noor’s next words.

He stood still, just outside the kitchen entrance, tryinh to listen the conversation.

He couldn’t hear Noor, but Sheeza’s words were sharp.

Sheeza :“They’ve gone mad… Who told you? That bitch again?”

A pause.

Sheeza : “It’s nothing. I was with you the whole time. They’re just jealous.”

Another pause.

Sheeza:“He doesn’t "

Sheeza chuckles little to what Noor told her.

Sheeza:like it was in the past , hhmmm , so big


He could comprehend what they were talking about , but his mind was only forming one name-Asish.



She turned the stove off, composed herself quickly, and stepped out just as he walked toward the hall—pretending to just arrive.

Her face lit up with that warm smile.

Sheeza:“You’re home! Dinner’s almost ready.”

Ali forced a smile back. “Yeah… just got in.”

He was waiting all through the dinner for her to tell but she didn't.






I lay in bed that night, eyes fixed on the ceiling fan, mind racing. Sheeza was curled beside me, breathing soft and even. How could she sleep so peacefully while I was spiraling like this?

What rumor had Noor mentioned?

Was it just harmless gossip? Or had something actually happened between Sheeza and Ashish at that party?

And why did she turn the speaker off the second Noor mentioned it?

A part of me kept reaching for logic. She was with Noor, wasn’t she? I hadn’t seen anything. And yet…

Then there was that MMS.

That cursed three-minute video I had jerked off to so many times in the past, long before marriage. That ass bouncing so perfectly. The breathy moans. That pink sweater riding up her back. I had memorized every thrust, every shaky frame. Now every time I closed my eyes, I saw her. My wife.

By morning, I was a mess. Even in the office, I couldn’t concentrate. I kept imagining things I wasn’t supposed to. Small gestures, quick glances at the party, the way Ashish looked at her… the way she was blushing.

Around noon, I made up my mind. I decided to call Joss.

He wasn’t a close friend—but I knew him through Noor. We’d bonded over beer and bitter exes a few times. Divorced two years back, paid heavy alimony. Guy had seen shit. If anyone knew what the rumor was, it’d be him.

He didn’t pick up right away.

I sent a message. “Need to talk. Urgent.”

It wasn’t until late afternoon that he called me back.

Joss:“Hey… I take it you’ve heard?”

His voice was casual—too casual. Like this was normal gossip and not the kind of thing that eats away a man from the inside.

Me:“Heard what, exactly? You knew and you didn’t think to call me?”

Joss:“Ali… I didn’t want to be the one. You know how this shit goes. Half the time it’s exaggerated, but still—”

Me: “I’m going to be in your area. Let’s talk. In person.”

Joss: “Come by. I’ll text you the flat number.”

He hung up.

I stared at the screen. A pit formed in my stomach.  
Did I really want to know?

But it was too late now.

I was going to find out.
