As the car started moving, Vanitha asked the driver, "Where are we going?" He replied in Hindi, "Ji! Samajh nahi!" (I don’t understand). Switching to Hindi, Vanitha asked, "Hum kidhar jaa rahe hain?" The driver answered, "Hotel, ma!" They chatted briefly in Hindi about Delhi. After a while, noticing Angith staring at her in surprise, she said, "What?" "Nothing. You know Hindi too?" he asked. "Mm. Second language in college." "Oh, wow," he replied, and they continued talking until Angith’s phone rang. He picked it up, saying, "Hello…" "Mm, just now. Everything’s good. I’m in the car heading to the hotel." As he started asking about his son, Vanitha realized he was talking to his wife. Feeling it was impolite to listen, she turned her gaze to the window.
After a short conversation, Angith ended the call and looked out the window, his expression shifting. The realization hit him hard—here he was, with a loving wife and child at home, yet he’d behaved this way with another woman, a married one at that. The guilt gnawed at him, and he silently vowed it wouldn’t happen again. He straightened up and let out a heavy sigh to release the tension.
An hour later, the car pulled up to the hotel booked for them. Angith and Vanitha stepped out, and two hotel staff approached, unloading their luggage from the car and heading inside. Following them, they were greeted by a charming receptionist who smiled and asked, "Mrs. Vanitha and Mr. Angith?" "Yes," Vanitha replied. "Room number 501, a VIP suite, has been booked for both of you, madam," she said. "For both?!" "Yes, madam, all VIP suites are double accommodations." "Oh," Vanitha said, turning to Angith with a look that asked, "What now?" Angith quickly asked the receptionist, "No ordinary suites available?" "Sorry, sir! All rooms are booked," she replied with a smile. Angith glanced at Vanitha, his expression suggesting, "We’ll have to adjust." Vanitha nodded, signaling, "Okay."
They followed the room service staff carrying their luggage to the elevator, heading to their room. Inside the elevator with the four of them, it ascended to the 21st floor where their room was located. When the doors opened, they stepped out and walked toward their suite. Looking at the spacious lobby, Angith remarked, "Only six rooms in such a huge lobby?" "VIP lobby, sir, that’s why," one of the staff replied, opening their room’s door.
Vanitha entered first, followed by the other three. The hall featured chocolate-brown granite flooring, a sandalwood-colored sofa set in the center, a 32-inch flat-screen TV opposite it, light brown walls adorned with scattered paintings, and tables flanking the door. Angith let out a "Wow" at the impressive space. Vanitha smiled at him as if to say, "Yes."
Noticing two doors at opposite ends of the hall, Vanitha realized they were bedrooms and breathed a quiet sigh of relief. When the staff asked, "Where should we put the luggage?" she directed them to place hers in the right room and Angith’s in the left. Smiling, she checked with Angith, "That’s fine, right?" He grinned back, and she followed one of the staff to her room while Angith trailed the other to his.
Entering her room, Vanitha saw marble flooring, light yellow walls matching the decor, a king-sized bed in the center, a large mirrored dressing shelf to its right, a curtained glass window opposite, a small table facing the bed, and an attached bathroom at the rear right corner. Comfortable and well-appointed, she thought to herself, "Fine." The staff placed her luggage there, said, "Thank you, ma’am," and left.
Angith directed the other staff to set his luggage in his room, followed him in, tipped both workers, and sent them off. Locking the main hall door, he walked toward Vanitha’s room and called, "Vanitha!!!" From inside, she replied, "Yeah! Come in," and he stepped inside.
Vanitha was sitting on the bed, talking on her phone about company matters. She smiled at Angith and continued her conversation. Holding the phone in her right hand, her saree had slipped, exposing two folds of her waist and a hint of one breast to Angith’s view. The sight erased the vow he’d made in the car. His eyes began to roam over her midriff and chest.
When Vanitha finished her call and lowered her hand, Angith shifted his gaze to her face. Her eyes were fixed on her phone, checking a message. He walked slowly toward her, leaning against the table opposite her, and started admiring her face. As she looked up from her phone and met his gaze, he snapped out of it, locking eyes with her and beginning to speak.
"So?"
"I just called the company. The meeting this evening is at another location."
"So, what’s the plan at our hotel?"
"A car will pick us up at 5 PM. It’s about half an hour from here."
"The meeting?"
"6:30 to 8:30. They’ll give us all the details there."
"Okay, we don’t have much time. Let’s rest a bit and get ready to leave soon."
"Okay," he said, heading toward his room. But his mind churned, confused by why he felt so drawn to Vanitha.
