Arjun's gaze remained unyielding. "And why didn't you answer my calls?"

I stumbled over my words. "The... the signal was bad at the hotel, I... I couldn't get through."

Arjun's expression was a storm cloud of suspicion and anger. "So you didn't bother to find a way to let me know?"

He stepped back, evading my touch. "It's too late for promises," he said, his voice devoid of warmth. "I'll make arrangements. The car won't leave this home without a driver"

The finality in his tone sent a chill down my spine.
