As with others, Rajiv was a great help during my initial days in the company as well due to which we had developed a very strong bond among ourselves. I used to enjoy his company. The fact that he lived only a few blocks away from my house helped this bond to develop even better. Soon, we both started carpooling to office with either of us picking up the other on alternate days. The one taking his car would call the other person after reaching outside the latter's house at pre decided time and the other person would join him for the ride to office. So, even though, our visits to each other's house were pretty frequent, it still didn't involve our family members. However, I used to narrate office stories to Sonia about him and even though she had not met him personally till then, but she still knew a fair bit about him through conversations with me. She had even seen him in our official group photographs.
It was all going fine till one day when his wife had to rush to Jalandhar, her native place due to certain serious medical issue with her mother. When I got to know about no one there at his place to cook, I had invited him over to join us for breakfasts and dinners till his wife returned. Though he had initially resisted but upon my insistence, he had finally agreed.
