The stage was set in the previous chapter - I think we are on the downward slope of where this story ends.
Desai's endgame was always going to be Meera's abduction of Krish and then possibly her impregnation.
The ultimate betrayal of Krish, first by his beloved wife Meera and then by the characterless, inferior Desai who
- with no qualms or shame - looks Krish in the eye and calls him my friend, while he - once like Brutus - plunges
the knife into Krish's back.
The story moves more and more into darker realms in part three which not everyone likes (including me!).
Personally, I do not want (even if it is a work of fantasy) sad things like losing a wife, losing a job, losing a friend,
losing a home, the break-up of a family, humiliation and betrayal to take centre stage.
... And that's exactly what Desai does to Krish, even with Meera's help at the end!
Though I am almost at the end with this story, I still have a little hope that everything will have a positive outcome,
like Krish's awakening from his lethargy, strengthening and triggering his will to fight, his optimism of victory,
his sense of justice and revenge and so on.
He should take to the field to show this devious human rubbish Desai his limits and put him in his place...
