Chapter 14 : Convincing Part 2
The next day I woke a bit early . Surekha was already downstairs busy with her morning routine. I went downstairs and saw Suresh was ready to go for his running routine . It was admirable how fit Suresh has kept himself by running 6 miles a day even at the age of 65 . The weather had been a bit on warmer side and so Suresh decided to go for run with out his T Shirt , he was bare chested with a running short . Suresh had nice build runners body ; he didn’t have big biceps but he was still muscular. While he was streching like he always did before running , Suritee came out from her room to join him on his morning run . I think she feels lonely and I think she should get married again “ Suresh had a bit of puzzled look but he said “ yes I have noticed and its not just her who had taken toll because the marriage . I agree though that Suritee should be with someone but who will marry her as she is not technically divorced.” Surekha said “ I don’t want to play the blame game but it all started with you seeing my horoscope . So I think if one person can and should come forward to help Suritee it’s you . Don’t you agree?” I sensed the tone of conversation has raised a little bit . Suresh still played cool and said “ Yes and absolutely yes . Yes it’s because of my suggestion that was meant to protect you and our family to which Suritee agreed and so did you . And yes , I would absolutely can step to Suritee out but how do you suggest I should do that .” Surekha was visibly nervous at his coolness . It got me a feeling that his coolness was hiding his shrewdness and Surekha was more frightened of that. In the time I was married to Suritee , I never had one on one conversation with Suresh so I never experienced his this side . Surekha continued sheepishly “ I am suggesting that ..” she couldn’t say it loud . Suresh said “ yes I am listening “ Surekha said it quickly this time “ I am suggesting that you should take care of her as her husband going forward.” Suresh looked surprised but totally shocked “ Are you saying that I should marry Suritee ?” Surekha said in a low voice “ yes .” There was a silence for few minutes as Suresh’s face was blank and then he said in absolutely calm low voice “ Ok . I will do that for her .” This time Surekha looked shocked as she expected resistance from him and so did I . I felt it to be too easy and I was a bit hesitant. When me and Surekha got upstairs I asked her “ did it go a little too smoothly?” Surekha said immediately “ I am a bit shocked too but with him you can predict anything. But I am glad that he is on board for Friday evening “ I then said “ I am glad too . And one thing I will never any thing my life so that my presence will make you feel intimidated “ Surekha got tearful and hugged me tightly and said “ I know ! I had always taken a day off today so I thought I might enjoy with my life . I got her closer as it as just afternoon Surekha was wearing saree and other clothes . I said “ from Friday onwards you don’t have feel guilty about anything . Today’s discussions were successful so we both should celebrate.
